A few improvements that I would suggest - -Every time the "home" function is triggered, keep moving in the direction you are moving for just a fraction of a second, to counteract bouncing off of the screen. -If cappy is near the edge of the screen, save which edge to a variable, and if cappy's location is lost, just move in the opposite direction of the side he went off of. -You might be able to make a detector for where the ball will land, since it is probably just an exact parabola. (although this would probably be very hard) -Whenever cappy is travelling to a location, try to slow him down a bit right before he gets there, to avoid overshooting. Great job on the bot, it works wonderful. Assuming someone doesn't already have 99999, you might be able to get it with a few good improvements.

To preempt a common comment: Watching videos at 1.5 speed is basically the default for me, so I figure talking slowly is nice for people who like that sort of thing, while people who prefer fast talking are already used to watching videos at 1.25 or 1.5 speed. Hey, love your Mario videos! It seems the last iteration failed because Mario got outside of the screen. My first instinct would be to instead of increasing the screen space Mario is detected, when the very dark spot from the red feed is lost, see which corner it was previously (top, top right, bottom, bottom right or right) and move him back until he is detected again.

For anyone playing this minigame and can't get the 2-P option to work for you (like I wasn't able to for some weird reason), I'm gonna give you a list of tips that should make short work of this mini game. So just first off, I think the reason 2-P doesn't work is maybe because they updated the game since these videos were released. Now it REQUIRES you to have 2 controllers, so if you are playing handheld, or if you don't have a second controller, guess what? You're f***ed for this option. So this isn't a possibility, so what can we do then to make short work of this? My strategy that worked for me was as follows: 1) Position - have mario right in the middle of the court on your side so that way you are in equal distance to throw your cap any which direction the ball will be landing. 2) Keep your eye on the shadow mainly. Don't look at the ball, but rather look at the ball's shadow to get a better indication of where it will be landing. This will make your life a bit easier. 3) Generally-speaking, don't use Mario to hit the ball, just use cappy and throw him in the direction of the ball's shadow when you know it's gonna be landing in whatever spot. While using Mario earlier on isn't an issue, once you get past 30, it will start becoming nearly impossible to keep up with hitting the ball if you are relying mainly on using Mario himself. 4) With those basics laid out, one thing that you can do to speed up the earlier part of the match (ie. from 1-30 or so), is to backflip whenever the snail is about to hit the ball back to you and use cappy. If done correctly and timed properly, by using the backflip to jump high and throwing cappy to the snail as he's about to hit the ball to you, you will instantly be hitting the ball right back to him, and you can continue doing this as much as possible, whenever possible, so you aren't waiting for those slow shots from him and you can speed up the earlier portion of the match. I advise only for 1-30 servings, because after 30 is when it starts getting a little too fast where I wouldn't be comfortable trying to pull that off and not have enough time to save the ball if I happen to miss. 5) This is the Key to it all right here - once you get past 30, but especially after 40 or so when it starts getting too fast for comfort, start doing a sort of pause-buffer. What I mean is that start pausing-unpausing whenever the ball is being served to you. This will allow two things: first thing pausing will allow you to do is to see where the ball will be landing, and set up Mario for the shot with cappy, instead of having to trace where the ball is going and throw cappy in the proper direction all in real-time. When you can pause-unpause repeatedly and actually sorta control the speed at which the ball is coming and set up mario to be in the right direction to throw cappy, it gives you a much greater chance of success than just relying solely on your hand-eye coordination and real-time reflexes. Also, pausing the game will allow you to take a breather so if you're hand starts sweating or cramping, pause the game, wipe your hand on your pants, give your hand a little shake to loosen it up, ease your mind a little bit, then jump back into it. 6) So actually there are 2 key pieces of advice, as I almost forgot this one. First one was the previous one (#5), second one which is almost just as important to know is that the way the volleyball game works is that you will lose only if the ball makes contact with the ground, TWICE! I don't think many people know that. So if the ball bounces off the ground, but you hit it before it bounces a second time, you're still in the game. The reason this is important is because it allows you to keep Mario grounded while you throwing cappy to hit the balls as they land, instead of jumping and throwing cappy, out of fear the ball will land and instantly fail you. But since it isn't the case that you fail by the ball just bouncing once, it allows you to keep Mario grounded, waiting to see where the shadow of the ball is headed, and once the ball is midway in its arch, you throw the ball where the shadow is heading and it's guaranteed to hit the ball. Not having to factor in jumping into your throws makes your inputs less, which reduces your stress and makes you more likely to succeed with your aims and throws. Also, because you have the luxury of the second bounce, you don't have to be as precise with your timing as you would have to be when throwing cappy at the ball in midair. If you were to read through these tips, understanding what I'm saying, and you had the situation that I had where the option for doing 2-P mode wasn't available because of lack of a second controller, this would give you your absolute best shot at this moon. Throwing Cappy up and then using the Homing Throw is incredibly clever. I figured the Homing Throw made it feasible but wow. So that’s how the pros get past 1000.

why don't you check on the velocity of the ball and add some portion of it to the location the script is moving towards, to not only "predict" where the ball is going to land, but also to compensate for lag. If this makes cappy overshoot then perhaps you could make the multiple decrease with time since the score incremented. Although, this doesnt seem to be an actual issue, since the problems are actually caused by detection errors etc. however the last issue looks weird -- isn't cappy doing the animation when they hit a wall or something? and the net similarly reacts, so maybe there was some collision bug where cappy was forced downwards, and the solution would be to not move so close to the net, or a combination of that and my addition above? p.s. please talk faster, i know you have your reasoning of "watching videos faster is a default for me so i'll talk slower to compensate on my videos" or whatever, watching videos on high speed might be default for you but im pretty sure most people prefer to watch at 1x and hearing you talk so slowly is irritating. at 1.5x it still sometimes feels like you're talking slowly anyway.

If you actually want to watch and enjoy this vid watch it at at least 1.25 speed or you will fall asleep half way through!

Maybe you should try making the code calculate the trajectory of the ball to move Cappy to the exact spot of where the ball would land? That might help as I can see that Cappy does aim really blindly, It might also help with Cappy going off the screen. You could like use the counter to sync the timing with the trajectory's distance and estimate the angle of the trajectory through the video signal. I don't know how or if this is going to help, but no one has stopped me from trying.

If you build a robot to do it for you, I don't consider it "cheesing". You're incredible.

Is it possible to measure the hitboxes of Cappy and the Ball via Python? If so you can probably avoid the shadow probably with colors by following the hit box instead of the color of the ball and that way, you can have the entire court as the input video for the Python code
