Only just found your channel Dee. As a former S/W engineer of 30 years I can still learn something new! Great content engagingly presented. Thanks.

I'm new to your channel and I like your style and honesty, and while I agree mostly with what you say in this video, I'm a little perplexed how you describe the projects you discuss as "side projects". You seem to be discussing work you have arranged with a client and then, perhaps, you've added some additional value? Am I missing something? To me a "side project" is something you do to help showcase your work (I'm thinking portfolio for an artist or house designer) and is driven from a general need (and not driven by a client requirement, I mean how would you have a client requirement if you don't have a client?!). In the video you look at client pain points, but how do I know what they are unless I already do work for them?! So, as you can tell I'm confused. Apologies if I've missed something. Great work, enjoying all your videos.

I think you put forth some good points to consider to expand outreach to prospective clients. In essence, solving problems they did not possibly even consider! Thanks for sharing!

I think it helps when you need to give a good first impression, and to go through the process in the eyes of the business. I found that lands me the most jobs, but obviously once I get the job it is about meeting the clients needs 🫠 Thanks so much for watching!

So I’m a data analyst, that’s how I learned to code. And as a DA, you’ll often have to investigate a lot first, you’ll speak to stakeholders etc and I think with software engineering, that skill doesn’t get spoken about often. So for a business, the first thing I ask is what is annoying to you, what do you can’t stand about the problem you’re having. And people are always way more vocal about what they hate. Now for a resume, if you’re trying to figure out what side project to do… if you’re developing a task management app.. what are the pain points you have with other task managers. And then in your resume highlight those as the reason for you developing your own app. So essentially just making it very known that you’re a software engineer that develops to create value. (sorry for the essay! Thanks for watching)

4:29 I'm curious, since this client wasn't your client at this time, how did you go about interviewing stakeholders about the pain point you observed? It feels like there's more to this part of your process than you went into detail about.

is there a platform where one could find projects to volunteer to? in my past i was able to solve many problems by developing software - but i have no idea, where to find problems outside my company. Additionally, I have a mind-set-problem: I don't understand why a software-developer is hired after all, because when there is a need for software, i just create it. (don't tell my employer)

Hey Dee , really nice video ! I was wondering if I could help you with Best Quality Editing in your videos which visually appeal to audience and would increase average view duration and will also make a highly engaging Thumbnail which will overall help your videos to reach to a wider audience ? Pls let me know what do you think ?
