Hi guys!
I am so excited to share this video with you today. I have been requested to share with you all my favourite colours of Tombow Dual Brush Pens for adult colouring books. If you have watched any of my videos so far, you will see that I do love using my Tombow markers in my colouring books and I am so happy you are interested and want me to share more about them!
I will share with you my favourite/most used colours in colouring books and how I apply them to achieve the result I want. I will show you a few methods of using them briefly as well - I have already done some colouralongs to show how I use them in more detail which I will link for you in the comments section.

Yes. Fineliners and pitt artist brushpens are my favorites. But I have to save up for tombow markers 🤣 think they will be a great addition!

I love using water based markers in my coloring. They make my coloring go quicker. I’ve tried a few different types like the Arteza real bush pens and crayola but, I keep going back to the very few tombows I have.

Thank you for you pointing out to me where I can see your techniques. It will be great for me to get familiar with water based markers. As at moment it’s either laborious task of doing backgrounds with coloured pencils, or I use alcohol markers of course this spoils backing illustration. So I’ll persevere.

@@w.vangaal1077 thank you for replying. Like you I’m saving for full set of Tombows but it’s surprising the colours you can create by mixing pens I’ve got, hopefully it won’t be long until we’ve both saved up enough.

Useful information. Many years ago I used these pens for brush lettering. But, I’ve not colored with them until now. I like the idea of basing with them in coloring books. They are the best. Even my old pens are not dry. Thank you again.

I absolutely agree with the loving the process part. I've seen too many people racing to finish as many pictures as possible, but I personally enjoy the journey. Finished picture is just a cherry on the top. I don't see myself finishing any coloring book any time soon, but I find that it helps to have a coloring buddy for a certain book - that's how you fill it faster with finished pictures.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I am ashamed to say that I have a little more than 60 Tombows collecting dust in my art room, most of them have never been used. I was initially going to use them for a bullet journal but I kind of lost interest in that and then I found adult coloring but couldn't see how I could incorporate them into my pages. I really want to use what I have (which is a lot lol) and so this is going to be very helpful. I also think this method will save me some time. Thank you again!

Thanks for the tips! I've been using mine sparingly, worried they would run out too quickly. I'm so glad to know that yours have lasted for 2 years. Could I ask which brand of water brush you use? Thanks for this video, useful information! I am looking for waterbased markers which I can use in double sided coloringbooks. If I use the tombow blenderpen instead of a water brush to bring the color to the paper will it bleed through the paper?
@shelscolouringjourney
@shelscolouringjourney 5 ай бұрын
It should not bleed through...I have used them before with no problem. Of course depends on the paper....Amazon paper lets everything through. 🤗

When I have colored with any marker in the past all I get are stroke streaks where you can tell where each stroke is made of same color in same area. A lot of coloring videos I see using them show a smooth covering as though only one stroke was used and not several stroke
@shelscolouringjourney
@shelscolouringjourney Жыл бұрын
Waterbased markers will always leave streaks for sure....I tend to use pencils over top so the streaky-ness is covered up. To reduce the streaks (you can't avoid them completely) you should move fast over the paper and you will find less streaks. Hope this helps 🤗💗

I do wish Tombow sold a bigger pastel pack. Their markers are not cheap, and even less so when you have to buy open stock and have them shipped in. I own the Ohuhu pastel set (which is alcohol) and it's 48 colors encompassing warm and cool tones of every color including brown and grey.. perfect for basing... but of course alcohol bleeds. I've been looking for a waterbased alternative for my double sided books and have yet to find one. Ohuhu actually made one in the past but apparently it's no longer available because while it's still on Amazon it's been out of stock for a year or more. The Tombow blender pen is also my top favorite for activating Inktense.
@shelscolouringjourney
@shelscolouringjourney Жыл бұрын
Yes, it would be great if there was a larger set of pastel colours. I have heard that Ohuhu have got a pastel set of waterbased markers which are available on Amazon (or at least I saw it on Amazon UK). Check out @artjournyuk's KZfaq, she shares a review of them on her channel. Hope this helps 🤗💗

I like the tombow markers but when I tried coloring with them I found out that when in use I see a start and stop mark and also I can tell when I use them I can tell that they overlap. In other words I have trouble making them look like a solid color. But I do like them very much.
@shelscolouringjourney
@shelscolouringjourney Жыл бұрын
They are lovely pens, but you are absolutely right, they can appear streaky, more on certain types of paper than others. Since they are waterbased, like all other waterbased makers, they will appear streaky, whereas alcohol markers wouldn't usually. Once you get a hang of them you can reduce the streaky-ness (e.g. by quick application), but usually it won't be eliminated completely. I always tend to use pencils over the top, so this covers up the issue 🤗💗

Excuse my writing it's not very good. *proceeds to print beautifully* I've used my tombow dual brush pens mainly for coloring in my hachette heroes Disney books. I dabble in Journaling so knew how to do tip to tip and blender methods. It did t really dawn on me to try basing with them. Your explanations were clear, imo. Thanks for another process video!

Beautiful colors. U may wanna dim your light a little to make it easier to see the lighter colors. I know it feels like the opposite of instinct to make it easier for people to see , but the white paper must make it to bright. Not exactly sure 😂

will this bleed through the page or make the page wet / crumpled?
@shelscolouringjourney
@shelscolouringjourney Жыл бұрын
As they are waterbased markers they don't bleed through (but of course for very thin paper you may se some bleed through) once you have your technique right. If using on thin paper and applying wet from a palette, then the amount of water you use could determine the crumple of the paper - don't use too much water, especially on thin paper like Amazon paper (this is for any wet mediums though). hope this helps 🤗💗

How are they not chewing up the paper? I got these mostly for their tinier tips for details & outlines but when i use them for larger spaces or blending then the paper gets chewed up quickly. I've tried different papers but its still doing it. What in the world am i doing wrong? And also the end to end method never works. Im confused. I want to love these but i don't understand what im doing wrong. Any tips? Im not pressing hard either.
@shelscolouringjourney
@shelscolouringjourney 2 ай бұрын
Hmm I am not sure why this is happening - I don't tend to use them directly on very thin paper like Amazon paper (although they work good on the Amazon premium paper and great on the Amazon Japan paper). As they are waterbased you have to work very fast and not go over the same spot while the marker ink is wet, otherwise it will pill. Paper definitely matters. Use a very light hand too. Waterbased markers will always streak on paper that is not specific for markers - so for large areas, they will always be streaky sadly. I never use them for large areas. If it is the one sided book, then alcohol markers will work better for large areas. Hope this helps 🤗
