I have my mom’s sewing supplies so one year I made one of my sisters a sock snowman using mom’s buttons for the snowman’s buttons. It’s so special to incorporate her things in my makes for my sisters! My dad gifted me a small household tools kit from his stash a couple years before he passed and as a single mother they have always come in handy!

Awww ... that is such a special story. Thank you for sharing with me. I had some tools my Daddy gave me and as they wore out, I replaced them. The new tool became Daddy's tool. Otherwise it would have been too sad to have something wear out.

Those are three “handsome” cards made from scraps. Great for guy cards. I think I have something like this in my stash …. hmmm …. oh, and I loved the barbed wire effect! ❤️🇨🇦

Thanks ML!! I am not the best at doodling but barbed wire is really simple. And it filled in that spot where my 1st layer scrap left open. Use what you have and post a pic on the Facebook page!

All of the cards are very pretty but I think I like the last one with the rooster the best. I am always amazed at how you use all of your scraps. I was really wondering how you were going to use that scrap of Honeycomb paper because the shape was so unusual but you did it.❤👍👍 Great cards!

Hello Julia my crafty friend, I really enjoy spending time with you in your craft room each week... 🥰💖 Making masculine cards are not my favourite because they are not pretty, and I love making pretty cards! I was amazed seeing these cards come together, and they all are really wonderful. I liked the earthy tones that you used, and my favourite would be the last one with the rooster. Brilliant adding the hand drawn chicken wire to complete the card. I hope you brother has a fantastic 80th birthday... 🎂🎁🎈✨🎉 Whilst watching this tutorial you brought out your Tim Holtz deckle trimmer, and I thought WOW ... I like how it cuts! I only have the straight edge trimmer. I paused your video while I went in search of this deckle trimmer on line. I found it on eBay but nothing in Australia, and the US and UK ones were very expensive, and then there was the added postage which was almost as much as the trimmer!!! I had a look at two online stores that I shop in the US, and their postage is way more reasonable, and one of them had the trimmer with a slight discount in price... I placed my order, and now I have to wait about one month before it arrives. International post is very slow, and then it has to go through customs when it arrives. I am looking forward to getting it though, and I am sure I will use it often. Have a blessed day, and a wonderful day in your craft room. Love, and hugs, Gloria 🥰☕🍰💐💖

Hi Gloria - I find a lot of people stall on men's cards - perhaps because of the embellishments. The card layout is of course basically the same. I like to use neutral colours for them and perhaps knot a ribbon instead of a bow. And not so much bling...boo hoo! I lusted for that deckle trimmer for about a year, using some deckle scissors instead. And I can tell you it was worth the wait - for me. I reach for it often. Now be prepared because the cutting experience is a bit different. It's hard to explain, but it is more agressive sounding and the feel to hand is totally different. And note - you can not trim a thin piece off like you can with the regular trimmer. You have to give the wiggly blade something to chew on. Have a wonderful week and as always I enjoy hearing from you!

@@SeniorSusieStamps Thank you Julia for your helpful advise, and as always I appreciate your help. 🥰 The online store where I purchased the deckle trimmer had a video demonstration with Tim Holtz, and there were also quite a few customer reviews. I must say that there were several reviews not very positive. Some of the complains related to the handle getting jammed in the upright position, and difficulty pushing it down. Another complain mentioned that there were too many straight lines in the deckle cut, and another mentioning that it doesn't cut paper. One crafter was disappointed when she received it because she said the deckle trimmer was too small. Otherwise many were happy with their purchase, and I hope that I will be happy as well. I currently use a small pair of deckle cut scissors probably like the one you probably used. I find it difficult to get a nice clean straight cut using the scissors. Julia you have a blessed week as well. 🥰💐

I feel certain you will be pleased with the trimmer vs scissors! I certainly am. Regarding the blade issue - I think that comes from using the top guage. You will notice in videos I always use the bottom edge of my guillotine trimmers. This solves that problem before it starts. I think perhaps they try to hike the trimmer blade up too high and it comes off the deck track, locking up. You will see what I mean when yours comes in. I am very pleased with mine and certainly would purchase again! The size is the same as the TH Guillotine trimmer, so it will not cut a 12 inch piece, but I rarely find this a concern when I am using the deckle because I am basically putting a decorative edge on a smaller piece. Talk to you soon - Have a wonderful week. Do you Facebook??

@@SeniorSusieStamps I don't think I would be cutting 12 inch pieces either, although the person who made the complaint in the comments was expecting to!!! I have the Tim Holtz guillotine trimmer, and I imagined that it would be the same size. I don't get aggressive while using my crafting tools, and I am sure I wouldn't throw up the blade too high. It is nice to know of the possible problems so hopefully I can avoid them. Julia, no I am not on Facebook. Be blessed! 🌻🌻

@@SeniorSusieStamps Hi Julia.... guess what I have? 🥰 My deckle trimmer arrived a day or so ago, and it is gorgeous... I love, love, love it. I had a little practice with it to see what the other people were talking about with their comments and problems, and to be truthful I cannot understand where the person got straight lines unless she was using the regular guillotine. Also the handle only goes up so far before it stops, and there is no way I would force it any further, because it isn't necessary and it could break. Like you I would be using the mid to lower half of the trimmer anyway. I love the way it cuts, and it is so much easier than the scissors to obtain a nice straight cut. Julia, thank you for introducing this fabulous trimmer, and I am sure it will be well used. Have a wonderful day... blessings, love and hugs. Gloria 🥰💐💝

May I ask how many paper collections do you own? I am new at card making and I am still stressed that I have scraps from my first 2 Xmas paper collections! 😂 BTW I made a few with the help of one of your scraps video and they were much appreciated. Have a nice week

Hi Johanne - I buy paper I like and it doesn't matter who makes it - to me. And I wouldn't be able to count the different collections I have in the studio. Some crafters like to stay with one line tho. The key I have found to using scraps is storage. And a FIRM committment to using scraps FIRST! It can be a real challenge. I never separate scraps from the parent pack of paper, rather storing them together with the scraps in a clear sheet protector on top of the full sheets of paper. Surprisingly that really helps. You have to see and go through the scraps first. Also, knowing your card layer sizes helps tremendously. Here is a link to the A2 size chart which you may find helpful - facebook.com/seniorsusiestamps/posts/pfbid02ohHie7EdsCJvmqmUyVV9BUWjmBHDAFdermGcPihnEH9E3XAQM9kh5iGhWYPj3j3ml

Julia, I have a problem...I was gifted tons of paper, and I was silly and separated it into categories like florals, nauticals, wood etc. So now I have all different kinds of paper mixed together. The same is also with my scraps. This was before I watched any videos that said to keep each collection together. Do you have any ideas on how I can now use it. I just discovered your videos and I am binge watching g them. I love how organized you are and how you use all different supplies to make your cards! Your cards are just beautiful!
