Regular water changes on your reef tank may be the difference between success and failure.
I perform weekly water changes on my lagoon tank and bi-weekly water changes on the frag tank. Depending on your experience level and the type of equipment you have, your tank may require less water changes or none at all! If you'd rather skip water changes, learn the "Triton Method." It was popular a couple years ago. The elements associated with this method were always hard to get but I think they are more readily available now.

Use the hose or get a hose that fits your circulation pump and pump it to the tank instead of a gallon jug. I use one hose to siphon tank water then hook it to my maxijet and pump the new water to the tank. I am like Salty Allie, I don't usually touch my sand bed, I let my conch do that.

Water changes aren't needed when you build with a denitrifying filter that handles nitrates and phosphates naturally. You just have to perform you top offs and add your minerals such as the 3 main ones (Mag, Cal, & Alk)
@BahamaLlamaCoral
@BahamaLlamaCoral 4 жыл бұрын
Correct! Like I said in the video, triton method might be something to look into if you don't like water changes. Have you found this to be true in nano tanks as well?

@andy2798100 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for making this video. I’m having constant problems with my innovative marine nuvo 20 tank. My kh keeps dropping and I cannot keep lps corals, they just keep dying. I’ve changed from aquaforest reef salt to fritz salt as it has a higher kh. I’m also getting hair algae on the back wall. What do you use in the rear filter on your innovative marine tank? I’m also getting a lot of evaporation so I think I need to add an atu which might make things more stable.
@BahamaLlamaCoral
@BahamaLlamaCoral 4 жыл бұрын
You may need to look into dosing. I would change water as usual and then take a KH reading once daily for 2 weeks and note the change over time. That way you'll know how much to dose daily. All For Reef by Tropic Marin is a great product for smaller tanks.

Hey Jackson! I do weekly water changes on the lagoon tank. If you go back and watch, you'll see me adding salt to the RODI water. I use Fritz Blue Box and you can find that at Corner Reef in South County! Gateway Aquatics is also a good one!

Just grab a simple 4-stage RODI filter from BRS. They make attachments so you can hook it up to a standard faucet. It will be a game changer when you get it all set up. Just make sure to swap the filters when they're exhausted. Get yourself a handheld TDS meter too.

Question, if your aquarium water is a salinity of 1.026 and you mix your water change water at, 1.026 does that mean it will go up after the water change ? I notice I slightly goes up . So I find my self mixing it slightly lower. Does anyone else deal with this? Please let me know thanks.
@BahamaLlamaCoral
@BahamaLlamaCoral 4 жыл бұрын
Do you have an auto top-off? If you don't, salinity will fluctuate as water evaporates. It could also be a calibration issue on your salinity tester.
