First off how many cans did you use to get "two light coats" and I notice the spray pattern looks like nothing I've ever sprayed with. Is it stock or a special nozzle you use?

For bugs and drips/runs, masking tape is your best friend. If you have a bug, just carefully extract the bug with tape without touching the paint. All those years of playing Operation® have really paid off. For drips and runs, wait for the paint to tack up a bit, and the drip will still be wet. Place a strip of tape on the drip (plus a few inches on either side, then immediately remove it SLOWLY. Follow up with new paint. For orange peel, use a paint can that is at least 15-20 degrees warmer than your paint booth.

Won't matter if you don't touch the paint when picking up the bug with tape. The bug itself has touched the paint, creating a mark. You've got to deal with that regardless. I find it's best not to mess with it when it's wet, but rather get rid of it when paint dries and re-coat.

Nice job. I had never painted a car or body parts in 30 years and at least 25 cars I've owned. This past week I painted my teenage son's Impreza in an open carport on gravel and dirt ground. I figured out what works for my area (western Colorado). I did 5 and 7 light to medium-wet coats on a whole car, over 4 sessions without fail. Apply and let dry for 15 (minimum) to 20 (maximum) minutes between coats and it works fine for the paints I used. You should spray two small test areas with all environmental/time factors the same before the actual project. For example, if you have an area to spray that takes 10 minutes to paint it, wait and warm-up/shake your next can(s) for 5 minutes and start the next coat. That's a total of 15 minutes. I know up to 20 minutes is also good. But 40 minutes was too long because that induced chemical reactions and severe wrinkling. I painted in the same order/pattern each time I sprayed a section. I had zero runs, spray errors, or reaction defects. The original paint condition was below average. No body rust, but 50% of clear coat was gone and hunter green was faded and rock chips galore. Below is the weather, process and paint I used. 1. Up to 3-mph occasional breeze is okay, anything faster or constant is to be avoided. Clear skies, for light, preferred. 20% to 40% humidity. Temperature between 50F and 72F while spraying. Warmed spray cans in hot water in a bucket. Shake them as much as possible. Paints used on sides, nose and rear (3 sections): -- Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch Gloss Navy Blue 2X Paint + Primer: 1 medium-wet coat. -- Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Enamel Gloss Navy Blue: 2 medium-wet coats. -- Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Enamel Crystal Clear coat: 2 light coats + 2 medium-wet coats. I think a 5th coat could be applied with no problems. Paints used on hood, roof and hatchback (1 section): -- Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch Gloss Black 2X Paint + Primer: 2 coats. -- Rust-Oleum Universal Hammered Black: 3 coats (4th coat optional). ***Color dries gloss dark grey with blackish specs, not solid black. 2. Sanded car with 100 and 150 grit dry paper by hand, with a scrubby dish sponge as the pad to fold the paper around. First, I sanded high defect/damaged spots...double their original size. Then I sanded vertically and again horizontally (cross hatched) the whole car. 3. From this point forward you must walk carefully to protect from dirt contamination...do not drag or scuff the ground. Wet the surrounding area to help keep dust out of air. Douse car with hot water and wipe down with rags. Let air dry 30 minutes. Check that all areas are smooth/scuffed well...touch up as needed. Wash with hot water+dish soap and rags/sponge. Rinse well. Dry with microfiber. Air dry 15 minutes. Tape up as necessary. 10 to 15 minutes before paint spraying use a microfiber cloth and lighter fluid or mineral spirits (same thing) to wipe down the section to be painted. Immediately before painting wipe all surface with a tack cloth. As you're spraying move slowly and don't scuff the ground. 4. Even in the open air you will want to use a painting respirator, but at minimum cover nose and mouth with thick damp cloth or N95/N100 face mask. Clear, tight fitting safety eye glasses work best...the larger goggles reflect light and make wet paint difficult to see clearly. I had to go without eye cover and just squinted my eyes when the paint spray was thick, because goggles distorted the light. 5. It will take these paint formulas 3+ hours to dry to firm finger touch so leave it alone for 5 hours. I let it dry 24 hours in the carport and then put it in the Sunlight for 2 more days before driving. At 25 to 30 days I'll polish and wax it. If you want to see pics drop me your email and I'll send you a couple.

@fwh79FOXR6
@fwh79FOXR6 5 жыл бұрын
@@steveanus4449 Blowtorch? Why not just use C4? Blowtorch or propane is beyond excessive. Soaking the can in hot water is more than enough. It takes time for the heat to transfer through the can into the paint. The can should be periodically agitated while soaking in the hot water to evenly transfer heat into the paint. Heating the can with propane will just cause an explosion.

I've always found it difficult to get a good surface condition on a flat panel with a rattle can spraying horizontal. I would always default to handing the part up and paint vertical when I can, with a rattle can especially. You can also use the whole can easier that way. You got very nice results though. Impressive.

It helps to keep a hairdryer or heat gun nearby to heat the can and keep pressure up, it will help a little with the spitting when the can gets a little low. Or, when it's starting to act up grab a new can and finish the other one off later.

Good video! I just want to mention that I live in Saskatchewan. Its winter now. I use aerosol primers, paints and clearcoats to refinish guitars. I apply all products OUTSIDE, minus 10 deg C or colder. I dont wait for warm weather cuz I could wait 5 months for that to happen. The sub zero temps DO NOT have any effect at all as to ease of working or appearance of finish. My aerosols are pre heated in warm water. Run outside, do the job, run back into the house. Perfection.

I did a repaint job after rust removal on my Ford Transit MK2 1983 after loads and loads of research but obviously not enough and it looks a mess. Also no garage and we have a lot of humidity. So I’m starting again and the choices are overwhelming. Tbh I’m thinking of doing a hammered paint job, I know it’s a sin for a vintage van but I can’t see any other way 🙄🤨

The clear coat out of a can works also. My side plastic mirror housings where sun damaged and the paint was fading because the clear was missing. I took the mirror housings off, cleaned them, and then wet sanded them. Then I cleaned the mirror housings with paper towels and rubbing alcohol, and them dry. Then I put them on a bent up coat hanger. I gave each mirror housing three coats of black paint for plastic, and three coats of clear coat. I waited for the proper amount of dry time between coats and half the 24 hours before putting them back on and another 36 hours before getting them wet.

Zoe Sh house painter here again, chasing a wet edge is how you prevent stop/start marks. Thini if this bonnet so you spray from left to right and stop at the halfway mark complete that side then spray right to left so from the other side of the hood to the middle. You'll get one really really Nasty line down middle of good because the edge was dry. All you gotta do is keep spraying a little over lap of your previous spray line and do not stop on anything that isn't a natural stop like the end of a panel where it joins up or the entire section cause you can reach it in an arms span. Hopefully that helps clear some stuff up its 9am Saturday morning here in NZ and I'm up with 2 kids under 2 so forgive any grammatical errors

Just my suggestion: Instead of having pointless trance music in the background that 99% don't care for, why not voice edit over you doing color commentary on work you are doing real-time in the video? You obviously can't do speaking with your respirator on while doing it. So as you are editing your final video, voice over a reasonable play-by-play on why you are doing certain strokes, 50-75% layover, and hitting the edges first? This will help the majority of the audience learn something. Just my $0.02.

I am amazed at how much paint you got out of 2 cans. Do you keep going till its around 3/4 empty? So many times I find the can spatters and spits near the end, messing up a great job.

Do you wet sand it before the clear coat? Or do you lay the clear coat down after the paint is dry and the wet sand the clear?

Crank up the heat, use a heat gun, flows out the orange peel. I use a propane torch too or the sunflower propane heater on the 20 gallon tanks.

Can I 2k clear over this? I'm hearing different things that this paint is lacquer and 2k cannot be applied to rustoleum or u cant 2k clear it until the base is fully cured OR u have to 2k clear when the base is still a little wet I'm so confused and about to paint my car.

Are you using the stock can tips? I spray with this same paint on a regular basis but my spray pattern isnt nearly as wide as what yours is coming out.

You would need an adapter to change US can like rusto and krlyon since they use female adapters on the can. All of the good caps are European made because of this. The top end spray paint all use male adapters and you can buy about 30+ different caps or tips. The really high end german stuff can even be sprayed at almost any temp. check out molotow belton premium cans. can order online or if you have any local art or graffiti stores. The stuff can be sprayed at -10°C until +50°C and has 275+ colors. Its UV and weather resistant too.

Wow but some time you are so close some time you are far away whats the logic and ive seen you are spraing edge first then fill the entire but you cant do one coat horizontal and one coat vertical and can i leave it with out clear coat if its glossy and how long usually itll last? I mean from the hood painted surface so in case 8 want to paint my xterra roof can i paint all at once or divide it into 4 or 2 parts after that with wet sanding and buffing itll be ok am i right Sorry too many questions but want to learn spray can technique 😁

To reduce orange peel heat up the paint surface of the metal blow dryer etc. Easier then heating the paint and metal holds heat well. You want your ambient room temp low and humidity free but your paint and surface your painting to be warmer to allow for viscosity to smooth the paint.

Heating the panel is a good idea it helps quit a bit. If you take the spray can and turn on your faucet to all the way hot and let it flow over it for around 2 minutes depending on outside temps shaking it few times between it actually gives it a bit more pressure and it makes the paint flow out way better and orange peel is almost gone when u doit that way. Combo with a heated panel like you said and you can get some smooth rattle can jobs!!

I tryed it 4 times and I never got the shine I was looking for with the 2k clear coat. The clear coat does not glow no where near what you see on youtube videos. I dint have any runs dirt or runs. I tried painting a hood for my civic. The clear coat is looks nothing like the gloss on the gloss on the original paint runs and squirts. Will never be my problem is just the gloss. Could this be becuase I only used one can?
