Very nice. Thank you for freely sharing your knowledge. Quick question, please. I think the futures symbol you're charting here is the continuous (not back adjusted) front month symbol on TV for NQ. How do you reconcile volume profiling on higher/longer time frames (or even intra-day, hourly, half-hourly, etc) to a futures contract which has expired (by virtue of using the continuous future that strings together all contracts) with the current, active futures contract? In a way, because all positions have been closed out of expiring contracts, do you still feel the levels associated with that exited volume are relevant? As long as one is not using a back-adjusted contract symbol, the price levels associated with expired contracts are prices which did actually trade. So there's that. But the participants who created the volume around those price levels had to exit. Even if they rolled into the next/new contract, what volume they traded at prices associated with an expired contract may not be pertinent. Stocks and ETFs on the other hand, are perpetual. So it's more likely you'll find old longs and shorts in those profiles. But then again, there are those who say maybe half the construct which seems to render support and resistance is a kind of self-fulfilling prophesy. I guess using tools like Bookmap and DOM one can validate whether old, volume profile-derived S&R from expired contracts carry over into new, active contracts. Curious your thoughts. Cheers

Hey. I made a video on this topic about using adjusted vs non adjusted contracts here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ruBniM5q2JuWk30.html I mention there that yes, as you said on longer term charts there are price discrepancies. Like for example the ATH made on 1/4/22 was broken on 12/19/23 if you look at non adjusted, but with adjusted that break happened on 2/9/24. So on longer term charts I do check non adjusted just to have important historical levels like that, but in general I always go with back adjusted and the VP levels on then are pretty well respected and significant. But then too I day trade, so for me I look at really more recent price rotations, usually just going back a few months the most, so it does not make a difference really for my short term trading.

Yes that makes sense for short term trading because the more rolls you accumulate, which are going to be more frequent in something like crude oil, the greater the accumulated basis differences and those past prices are levels that never actually traded. The skew will be / may be small closest to most active, new front month. But time spreads on the curve can make even closest to front month basis change large at times and esp in some commodities.
