One bit of advice from the mom of a daughter, who's lived in London since 2012. Don't get rid of everything you're not taking, if you haven't already. I say that because if you leave some clothes at home, that you still like to wear, then you'll have them, when you come home for a visit. That way you don't have to bring so much home, and take it back each time. England, of course, isn't nearly as far away as Japan. But I've definitely learned what works for her. That is assuming of course, you're going back to live in the same place in Japan, and that things would be safe if you leave them there during a visit to the states. Good luck! Yes, you're setting out on the biggest adventure of your life! But it's a fantastic chance to grow and become your own person! Have fun, work hard, and take advantage of every minute!! You can do this!! Enjoy!! Can't wait to see your first video, from over there! 😊

"A physical representation of what's about to happen." So good. Totally true too. As you purge excess and head toward your dreams, the tangible wins are so motivating! OK the Ranger Roll rocks! I usually rock our clothes when trying to tight pack as well. Have never seen the Ranger Roll. Love it! I actually like taking a heavier coat/jacket like that on a plane because the temps on planes are all over the place. Air tag? What? I have never heard of that. Going to check that out right now. So excited for your next adventure!

Fabulous Elijah. Really excited for you and you’ve grown up so much. I’ve been watching your mum and dad channel for a long while now and you’ve blossomed into a man now. Great videos. I hope you get the time and inspiration to do some when you’re there. All the best in the meantime and enjoy yourself on your adventure.

Great vid. Bon Voyage! (A friend’s suitcase burst open in the lobby of the departure airport, and a new suitcase was required. Glad you are packing carefully!)

Good luck on your travels. I have not see that way of rolling clothes before, it looks brilliant. I love packing cubes and that is what I use. I am fine at packing light on the way somewhere, but on the way home I tend to always have excess baggage charges due to things I have bought along my travels haha.

For anyone moving abroad. Vacuum bags are AMAZING. We MOVED moved and the amount of clothing we were able to bring is insane (it’s very hard to buy clothes here in our size so we did overpack lol) I’m minimizing now but if you’re wanting to compress even more. Use vacuum bags or roll up bags (that use body weight to release air)

The biggest trick is to get the vacuum-seal bags, lay your clothes flat in it, and use your vacuum to suck the air out and it will get super flat. There is a difference between packing for a "fun trip" and packing for a year, and it is expected that you would need to take more things with you and this will make it possible. Can't wait to see what comes next... and don't forget to use Google translate when you need it.

Pack very little. Thrift shop as needed at destination, then sell or donate it before I come back.

It’s something that Apple created where you can connect your personal belongings to the air tag and if you loose an item you can easily find it. It is like a GPS tracker for your personal belongings.
