this is the story of how i found out my son has autism. he doesn't have his official autism diagnosis yet but we are going through the process. this is by far the hardest video i've ever had to film. it's really hard to talk about everything we've been through over the last year but ultimately, i am glad to have this realization that lincoln has autism. we can get him the therapy he needs and we can be more understanding and more patient parents for him. i'm trusting in the plan that i know God has for his life and for our life. i don't know what the future holds but i know the one who holds it. thanks so much for watching + please leave me a comment down below if you are going through this autism journey as well. we got this!

Both my daughter and I are in the spectrum. My daughter really struggled to function as a child and we didn't know what her future held. Today she is 24, has an exceptionally high IQ, and is a senior software designer of virtual reality. She designs VR programs for the medical field and for law enforcement training. She is able to do extraordinary things in her jobs that neurotypical people cannot do. She works for two different companies, holding two "full time" jobs where she sets her own hours working at home because she can do the work in half the time that a non-autistic person would. Her autism used to be a huge challenge because she was always overstimulated, but now she made herself a peaceful home and life, and autism has become her superpower.

Autism momma here! I’ve been on this autism journey for a few years now. If you ever want to reach out with questions don’t hesitate, I love helping other mommas out. It can be very emotional at times, but the most important thing is that he is happy. Mine also received first steps and they did SO great with him. He still receives speech, occupational therapy, & physical therapy. Which has made a world of difference! Omg so much of what you are feeling is what I felt and still feel some days. I’m here for you mama💓

Just like you we don't have an official diagnosis but we have taken the first steps in that direction and COVID has definitely made things bad for us too as we could not seek help earlier. I can relate to your words soooo much, my greatest fear is that my son might not be independent as an adult and that he will be all alone after we are gone. However I do believe in God and I pray things will turn out good in the end. I love your positivity, you are a strong woman and a great mum. Many hugs from Birmingham !!

Hey Catherine! I just followed you on Instagram and commented on FB. Thank you for sharing your journey. I try to share snippets of our lives as well while trying to protect my daughter's privacy and basically just share things from my point of view and just focus on Autism Awareness in general. Like you, my daughter was our first child, we did not know things were different for a long time. I was the one constantly googling things and checking on things. Our pediatrician did not notice signs until she was over 2. We did Early Steps and now do ABA therapy 30 hours a week. I had to come to my own acceptance of the situation and focus on our blessings. I have another daughter and like you, I can see the huge difference in their milestones. It is such an emotional situation as a mom, we just want the best for our kids. But I find joy in the uniqueness of our journey and the chance to share and spread awareness.

My little one is turning 4, and suspect autism as well. his evaluation is not until July. My oldest was diagnosed at 6, and I was at first in denial. It's funny how I still feel it is catching me off guard with little brother, because their personalities/!traits present differently. I feel that high functioning is so easy to brush off as goofy, stubborn, quirky...etc. much like you said, I've been looking back at videos, flapping, head banging, and spinning, putting pieces together I didn't fully see in the first couple years.

Your story sounds so much like mine with some differences. I am in the stage of bringing things up to my husband and he keeps saying everything is fine but I just have a feeling something is not right along with things I'm seeing in my son. It's so scary to go through this. I was trying to see if you had an email address posted so I could send you a personal message. I don't know anyone that has a child with autism and I feel like it would be so helpful to connect with people that do. My son is only 13 months old but is def speech delayed. He is in early intervention but only because he was in the hospital for other issues when he was first born so he automatically qualified for early intervention. He starts speech next week so hopefully that will help. He's obviously too young to be diagnosed with autism but I def see some red flags such as the lack of pointing and not bringing things to me. Sorry for the long winded comment. I found comfort in your video knowing I'm not alone and we can and will get through this.

Just know you are doing the absolute BEST for your son. You are doing everything you can for him already, you have him in early intervention and you’re getting him in speech which is going to be amazing 🙌🏻 with your husband, it will probably just take time. It took a lot of time for Adam to come around and accept what was going on and I just had to give him space and he finally admitted to me that he was scared. He’s the best dad ever to Lincoln and he’s killing it at tackling all the special needs things with me now. I agree that you need other people in your corner that are going through the same thing as you are. Feel free to reach out to me ANYTIME!! my email is catherineloreneblog@gmail.com or you can dm on Instagram too it’s @catherinelorene. You got this friend I know you’re gonna keep killing it because that’s what we do. You’re a super mama. 💪🏻🦸🏻‍♀️🤍 sending all the love and prayers!!

I had a very similar situation. I had a gut feeling that my little boy Shade was not developing normally around 12 months. My partner and his grandparents insisted that Shade was normal, and that perhaps I had rather grandiose expectations for him. Many times it was suggested that I seek therapy. This was actually an attractive proposition and one I considered. Ultimately I couldn't accept it. I took Shade to Vanderbilt to meet with America's foremost autism expert, and he was diagnosed. By the time he was 3, no one challenged this anymore, it was very evident that he was autistic. Mothers should pursue their intuition. Don't let optimism inhibit early intervention.

Good for you for trusting your mom gut!! It is so frustrating when people don’t see what you see but you fought for him! 👏🏻 early intervention is key! You are a good mama!
