I don't use a training program, but here are a few options: Athlean-x has programs Brian Alsruhe has two free programs as well as personal training Szat Strength has a free program and does online PT There are Sheiko programs online if you want to do the opposite of SS Stronglifts workouts are out there Etc. Etc. There are a plethora of options available.

I have been a SSOC client for the past 6 months and I have nothing but great things to say about it. My form went from being complete crap, and at 48 yrs old I am the strongest and most muscular I have ever been. The whole organization is top-notch. SS certification is the hardest cert to attain in the industry and this means that any SS coach you see either in-person or online will know their what they are doing. They will likely be the best coach you have ever had. I never comment on KZfaq videos, but this is a subject that an passionate about and worth taking the time to do so.

My two cents: You're not a newbie, not a rookie to lifting, i.e. Your gain (100+ pounds) wasn't beginner's luck. You made real PROGRESS. More or less, Ten dollars a pound was what it cost. Within 90 days !!!! Plus, You're carrying this knowledge forward. I think you got a bargain.

I went from 335 on squat to 475 in 4 months using the starting strength method. My bench went from 275 to 335 and my deadlift went from 375 to 495. People can say what they want to about starting strength but you can’t argue against results. Plus the podcast is pretty dope too.

The starting strength program is awsome! I read the book and followed the program throughout my novice faze and it took my squat from 35kgX5 to 86kgX5 in a bit over 2 months (was 14yo at the time). Im being completely serious here, if you are a novice (or even advanced) lifter you should definetly read the book.

I think it is awesome you increased your PR's, but do you feel gaining that much weight for the amount of gains was worth it? You said mass moves mass and looking at the previous PR's you essentially maintained previous percentage of weightlifted vs bodyweight. As always I appreciate what you are doing for the community.

I really like the SSNLP, but I have mixed reviews for SSOC. I paid for the service for about 6 months and didn't PR once. I felt like the coaches I worked with were too married to the LP model and too often gave the advice of 'you need to eat more.' I'm not skinny and have a job that doesn't allow me to be fat, so not exaclty great advice.

Hi Coop. What was your deadlift frequency and volume during this coaching? I know that typically the Starting Strength (and Practical Programming for Strength Training) programming methodology tends to keep deadlifting to a minimum to manage it's impact on the CNS. Most other programs I've seen have more deadlift frequency and/or volume. Do you think this played a big factor in why your deadlift didn't increase as significantly as your other lifts?
@GarageGymReviews
@GarageGymReviews 5 жыл бұрын
Deadlifted twice a week, but only up to one heavy set. I think I should have just tried to go up in more weight. I just get a bit scared deadlifting that heavy. Probably shouldn't, but I do.

One correction on the $99 Club program; it’s not group programming, or a group environment. Instead of a certified Starting Strength coach, they rotate interns every couple of weeks to coach you. This is the option I’ve been doing for the last month, and the interns are all really great, and on their way to getting the certification. It’s affordable, and probably just about as good as the regular program. I’ll be PRing my lifts in a few weeks to a few months.

I think that program is crap. These Coaches are thieves. Nobody needs a coach if they know anything at all about bodybuilding or strength training. Just like U said lift and eat. It is just the Placebo effect. If ignorant people hire a Coach, most of the time they believe that coach helped them when the fact is he didnt help any. I put personal trainers and coaches in the same bucket as thieves, cause they are. I see your getting a kickback cause I dont believe U think coaches actually help people except the 65 yr. old grandmother that has never lifted a weight. I cannot believe people pay hundreds of dollars to a 'coaching' service that tells them to train less, eat more and avoid cardio! Barbell Medicine has done an extensive deep dive into why SSOC is not an optimal coaching option. Train less should never be the motto. Volume leads to hypertrophy, hypertrophy leads to bigger muscles, bigger muscles move more weight. Pretty sure you are gonna stall on your lifts unless you keep gaining more weight and in turn more body fat or increase your volume. Also, gaining close to 30 pounds in 3 months is not a healthy way to gain weight. More importantly, telling folks to avoid conditioning is a horrible advice. Research has proven time and again that a little bit of cardio is not going to affect your strength gains in any way whatsoever.
@CPurner
@CPurner 5 жыл бұрын
I have been an SSOC client for 7 months. The recommendation to train less, eat more, etc... was specific for Coop at this stage of his training. I have done plenty of conditioning work during my training with SSOC, lost 7 inches off my waist, and dropped 18 lbs. This is what I needed. It is my experience that SSOC makes an assessment of your current strength, body composition, health, etc., and makes appropriate nutrition recommendations and programming for the individual.
@GarageGymReviews
@GarageGymReviews 5 жыл бұрын
What they told me wasn't boiler plate advice, it was specific to my situation and I had no problem with it. Will I do more conditioning in the future, yes, as well as more volume, but I like the results that came following their program.
