Yes ! But why you don’t use OCR ? This magic tool can make your job easier , employees and students help them write reports ,research… for example, extract informations from a KZfaq videos or text from an image on Google… To use this tool, you have 2 methods: 1- Online OCR : On the Internet , there have been a lot of websites that can provide this service, just type in google "online ocr" and you will find what you need. All websites require to upload the photo containing the text and give you a file containing the extracted text. 2- OCR JUST SELECT (Recommended) : Personally, I use this software to extract text from videos, pdf images and pictures . I recommend it because it is characterized by : * Internet is not required. * Extract text from images, videos, Pdf images... from any content on the PC screen. * Easy to use. You can find this software only on eBay, just search (on eBay) "OCR JUST SELECT" And you find it in the first result.

They teach us those things in asian ( china, korea, palestine, Jordan, ...) and north African schools (Egypt, Tunisia..) we can't even graduate without mastering it otherwise we'll lose 15% of every subject's grade

@@lepandablop9039 we had classes called " scientific research" at least one class every week, from middle school till highschool, we have to present a small research and essays for every subject every year, but in highschool we have to do a big research that's 15-30% of our graduation grade, in some subjects it's 100% of the grade In the classes they'd give us papers on what should be in an essay/ research, how to write references, how to write opening statements/conclusion ect, what size to use, what font...

1. Spend a few hours looking up “review” articles 2. Look at the first major original studies, then the more recent ones 3. Look at the citations and steal (it’s actually perfectly okay) 4. Re-word (a.k.a paraphrase) the words used 5. Use the quotes in a subject based “quotes” sheet 6. Use the quotes in your outline to plan the essay 7. Use the Vancouver Citing System w/ Number’s 8. Use a citation program like Mendly or Quickref

Really great tips! I will direct my students towards the video. there is so much more to essay writing than the mere 'writing' of it! I have just released a video where I use the metaphor of a 'chain' to demonstration there are 5 key interlinking parts to an essay that gets the high marks! all the best, Dr Egan

I do the same technique as you, the part where you said that you do two separate word documents where one is for the plan and the other for the actual assignment. I started doing this for my second year and my grades actually improved a lot. It really Is useful. Also, cite this for me is an excellent reference web page too.

If you find cite this for me useful, I definitely recommend Mendeley. You can transfer any pdf from google onto the software through an extension, it automatically formats citations for you based off the information it finds in the pdf as well as can find the website you first found the pdf. :) Not to mention, there is a section for notebooks where you can make notes on what you are reading, add annotations to the pdf and highlight them, all in one place.

When I was in first year I struggled to get a first. I wondered why was falling short all the time. Then one piece of work I had to write a critical review, I looked at around 50 pieces of primary research on the relationship between diabetes and sensorineural hearing loss and pulled each study apart looking at the sample size, methods, results and stats. Convinced I was going to get a 2.2 at best I reluctantly submitted it. About a month later the grades were in... I scored 85%. Ever since, I followed the structure I used for my review in every piece of work, and written exam... I ended up graduating with a first. I would always say to students, get into the habit of conducting reviews, they help your writing. The best marks synthesise original thoughts, they ask questions and try to give answers based on the evidence presented.

My essay writing is so all over the place you could diagnose it with adhd. Although I don’t have that diagnosis my essays certainly do! I have a habit of writing three different sections at once, flipping between them all before any of them are finished. I highlight different topics with different colours in word. It is a mess! I really big mess. This has been really helpful. Thank you :)

I had similair issues, understanding the topics, or brief was never an issues but researching a collecting sources then draft always overwhelmed me. the best approach is the take each section of the essay question and answer it in piecemeal, give authority and reference then move to next point, once you done that for several section compile a 2nd draft and make a main body. Then introduce the subject and conclude your finding from the body. Reference should be done. Hope that helps

So is mine unless I'm writing a research report that's super structured anyway, so there's no much room to go off track. But free form essays really get me, I always get the worst marks in those because I'm so all over the place. I'm going to try it this way and see if it helps though.

If you're doing MLA intext citations, noting the (Author, Year) in your notes and outline can really help. When you get to writing it out, you've got the intext citation right there. Also, saving the paper by Author, Year can really help keep track of what info came from what source.

Hey, thanks so much for this video!! Just a tip for anyone researching for the first time - it may actually be better for you NOT to search only for full text because you may miss out on good papers that are accessible elsewhere. Especially if you have access to certain journals with your University. That is a tip our Uni gave us.

I import my references into EndNote as I’m doing the research. It has a place to save the PDF too but I often use a similar system to you- save the files to an essay specific folder. I group my citations/references within EndNote. So all my citations are in one place for research purposes for specific assignment. I also use the “Cite While You Write”

I'm a US first-year writing teacher and you have some really good tips in here. I agree with another comment that talked about using your school's library databases as well, especially as you are just getting started. I also like using Google docs so I can have research anywhere. I'd also recommend copying over your quotes and putting them in quotes so that you can compare them when you are drafting the paper to make sure you are paraphrasing and quoting properly. I see a lot of issues with students thinking they paraphrased but in fact they really used the majority of the original source.

A great handy trick that I recently discovered when researching is favoriting your research sources to a folder on chrome. Adding them to a folder you can open them on any device when you are logged into your google account and you can open all tabs by right-clicking the folder, super easy. I often find myself having 50+ tabs open when I am starting research and it slows down my pc so this really helps when I have multiple essays on the go at once.

I second this! For every paper I write I make a bookmark folder for that assignment in particular to keep track of my sources. This definitely helps when it comes to references so I make sure I don't miss any.

Thank you Kenji for this video! Just to add on a tip for referencing, if your sch has a Mendeley subscription it’s rly great. I add my papers/citations there to keep track and whenever I’m writing a paper I use the built in Mendeley system in Microsoft Word to choose the paper. At the end you just need to insert ur complete references from the built in tab. Have been a mess w referencing before this and by far this is the most efficient way for me :) Similar to what Kenji uses I guess but without having to do the step of adding the citation file!

I have just submitted my thesis, finishing up my work in uni! I am happy to see that I have a similar essay writing method with you, which helped a lot and made things easier for me. However, I do not like using reference links etc. for my work, it just becomes time consumig. If you search the article name in Google Scholar, you can citate it directly by clinking " icon, copy paste it into your references and put the same number both to text and the references :)

In the US, we did essays on medical trials and presented them during journal workshops. It was just so tedious. Imagine if you got stuck in presenting the METHODS section of a journal. yuck.

Excellent video, Kenji. The key to successful essay writing is organisation, and you provide first class (pun intended) advice on how to do just that. I have just one question, how fast is your internet speed? I was almost drooling as I watched the speed at which your web pages appeared on your laptop screen. I'm guessing your internet is provided through fibre optics, am I right? When I was writing essays (at home) for my undergrad degree (in law) my internet speed was 10 mbs; I still bear the psychological scars.
