Hi! My name is Jothi and I’m a rising freshman at Harvard University. I’m super excited to start my year, and I just wanted to share some tips that helped me get here :)
Of course, these tips are just my opinion. There is no concrete formula that will automatically get you into top schools. Just remember that each person has their own way of going about college applications, and this video goes over how I handled the common app. Hopefully you all can use some of this information too.
I did forget a few details about myself, so I’ll just add them below. These are very specific details, so do not worry if yours differs a bit, you’re probably fine :)

GPA (100 pt scale): 98.74 UW/101.61 W
SAT test 1: 710 R, 800 M, 22 Essay
SAT test 2: 780 R, 800 M, No Essay
APs: Took 12 including senior year (2 self studied)
SAT II: 740 World History, 800 Bio M, 800 Chem, 800 Math II

@@icsepunjabi2883 The year on a college shirt usually represents the year you will graduate from college. Since she is a freshman, she will graduate in 2023. People usually apply during the first half of their last year in high school.

To get into any college in USA or CANADA, you need to take a very rigorous course called GRE. It is a VERY hard test, and if you take it and get a good score, you can get in.

Can anyone please tell me if learning something at home counts? For example do I HAVE to join an art club, or is it OK if I get really good at it at home? I also know 7 languages but learn only 3 at school. Rest I have learnt at home. Does that count? Please tell me, I'm just 13 and really want to get into Harvard! I'm actually from India... Also, we have some clubs at school. Can anyone please recommend what good clubs can get me into Harvard if I am interested in art, reading, writing and coding? Or can I just learn them at home? Also, I don't have AP classes in my middle school. What should I do?

@@supernova_757 1. Yes, you definitely want to take the TOEFL and either the ACT/SAT. In America, most students take the SAT/ACT in the beginning of 12th grade because they start to apply to colleges then. When will you be applying to college? 2. Yes, commonapp.org (the Common Application) is an application system most colleges use. Basically, you fill out all your basic information and then have space to list 10 activities that you did. You can also write about 5 awards in the awards and honors section. Then, the common app has one 650 word essay that goes to all schools you will apply to. There are seven prompts to choose from. After that, most selective colleges have more essays that you will have to write, so you work on those. I'm not sure if you are planning on taking a gap year, because as far as I am aware, you have to apply to colleges at the beginning of your 12th grade year (unless you are planning on coming to America to get a master's degree and not an undergraduate degree)

If you want to attend an Ivy League or any top schools than AP classes is mandatory unless your school does not offer advanced classes.

@@ashimamathur22 If you do not have access to AP classes at your school, I recommend to take college classes at your local university or if you do not have that just take the most advanced classes at your school if your school offers any Accelerated, honors, or IB classes. But, if you also do not have access to those classes then don't worry colleges will carefully review your application without any penalty because they understand if students do not have access to any advanced classes.

hawa iman I actually am doing my BBA rn from a mediocre level college in India. And yes our schools doesn’t offer Any of such unfortunately😭neither does our colleges. We have specialisation in colleges thats it which comes in 3rd year. I m interested in doing MBA from some prestige university but idk it feels like a dream outta my league 😂😭but ig i would put alot of work doing internships and everything to build my CV/RESUME, thankyou so much xx
