I graduated from the BSN program a few years ago and I wanted to share how exactly I got into UCLA and my experience applying for the program. I know, I definitely googled this on youtube when I was still going to school to see what people thought about the program. I am not paid by UCLA to do this, I just wanted to share what worked for me and what I think helped me put my best foot forward!
Here's a link to the admissions website where you can find specifics like prerequisites or the supplemental application due dates: www.nursing.ucla.edu/admissio...

Hi! Love your videos. Will you make a video about what the BSN program at UCLA is like? What were your favorite and least favorite parts of it? Also if you have any tips or advice 😊

Thank you! Yes stick around and stay tuned. Today’s video is about the personal statement for nursing at ucla but that one is definitely on my list 😊 Tips off the top of my head: if it’s your dream school, really manifest and visualize yourself there. Then, do the work that they ask for. Believing is half the part! I used to have teachers discourage me on the low acceptance rate and I stand here today a ucla grad 😊

Hi, I'm currently a freshman in the first semester of college going to a CSU. I didn't initially get into the UCLA nursing program as a freshman, but I want to attempt to transfer to UCLA. I'm really considering going to a community college so that I have a higher chance of getting into UCLA, but also to ensure that all the courses I'm taking are transferable to all the CSU nursing programs (they all have the same pre-reqs, but some classes don't transfer from CSU to CSU). However, my biggest concern is how different UCLA's pre-reqs are compared to all the nursing programs. I'm also really concerned on how I would balance out the pre-reqs to CSU nursing and UCLA nursing. Because the chances are slim for me getting into the UCLA nursing program, and I want to be able to have a back up plan. And I know as a nurse going to a college doesn't really matter when it comes to job application due to the shortage of nurses, but UCLA is my dream school! I was wondering if you have any tips for transfers, or if you knew anyone who transferred into the nursing program that had the same experience and what they did. Furthermore, should I really go to a community college? I'm just really scared about committing and then failing
@TriciaYsabelle

Yes! I have some close friends who are transfers and I was told that it can be very discouraging (even their counselors were telling them about slim chances). The extra courses are classes that the regular BSN group needs to complete as well to graduate. I think either way you go, cc or not, it just depends on what makes it easier to transfer if ucla is your end goal. UCLA is really science heavy and those prereqs are also classes the BSN students takes at UCLA in order to graduate. Did I think they apply in my daily life as a nurse today? Not exactly but theyre important for graduate school in the future. The transfers that I know tried not to get swayed by the acceptance rate! They knew ucla was their dream school and went for it. Have a backup plan but shoot for the stars! I hope this helps. Good luck!

Thank you so much for this video! Im a rising junior and I was wondering about extracurriculars because I have no hospital volunteer experience due to my late birthday and covid. The things I do revolve around volleyball and children since I like pediatrics and play volleyball. I’m also taking all the ap sciences and am in HOSA, cancer awareness, and SNHS. Would extracurriculars like theses me strong enough? Is there anything else you recommend. It’s been stressing me because I tend to overthink a lot.😅
@TriciaYsabelle
@TriciaYsabelle 3 жыл бұрын
I think if you spin it in a way that shows your passion and consistency you can do it! If pediatrics is something you want to go into then yes show how you volunteered w kids. Maybe for volleyball you can show that you are a leader (team captain? etc) and for the sciences you can show that you went above and beyond. But overall? You want to show your personality. What is it that makes you different from all the people who also volunteered and took AP classes. When I was applying, they wanted to see a good mix. Consistency, preparation, and personality. Hope this helps!

I am currently in my junior year of high school and UCLA nursing is my dream school! I am taking three AP classes this year ( Lang, Gov, and Chem) and I am also taking anatomy, pre-calc, and french. For my senior year I plan on taking AP-stats, AP Bio, dual enrollment in college level anatomy ( to get that class out of the way for my firsr year of nursing school), and dual enrollment in sociology/psychology. I had a oppurtunity lined up to volunteer at a big hospital over this last summer but due to covid that didn’t happen:( i did find other opportunities though and I am now a regular volunteer for the American Red Cross and I am a part of a pen pal program for hospice patients. Also, I will soon be able to volunteer for hospice by going to patients houses and providing support to them. At school I am a member of NHS, the Future Medical Professionals Club, Link Crew ( help to run freshmen orientation and act as leaders for the freshmen), and Tennis. I currently have a 3.95 gpa and plan on scoring high on the SAT. I wondered if so far I am on a path towards being a competitive applicant for the nursing school. I was very disappointed when the volunteer opportunity at the hospital fell through and am worried that due to covid I might never have an opportunity like that again. I wondered if the opportunities I have right now are good enough or if I should look for more medical related volunteer opportunities to really seal the deal?
@TriciaYsabelle
@TriciaYsabelle 3 жыл бұрын
those are awesome opportunities! if you can speak to how you benefited from those things (example: learning time management, become a leader, cultural competency, teamwork) then i think you will be successful in your application. remember to look at things from the eye of the admissions counselor. they see many long lists of things people do all the time. so the way you will make yourself stand out is showing WHAT you learned from these experiences and relate them back to the prompt!

Hi, I hope you see this! I'm currently a freshman at CC, and I want to transfer after two years, but I have a few questions about volunteering/experience I should look into. I know becoming CNA is a great way to build up my resume but should I look into pharmacy techs or phlebotomists? I know those two are less nursing-related so should I look into those too? Also, I looked up volunteering opportunities near me but all of them require some sort of nursing school experience which I don't have so how should I go about finding volunteering opportunities at a hospital?

Hi! Love ur story and congrats btw! I have a question for you! Do you think it’s still impress if I had a short internship at a hospital near by and i have 200 volunteer hours from a program for making thank you cards for healthcare workers?
@TriciaYsabelle
@TriciaYsabelle 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! And yes I think it is because those are a lot of hours. I think it shows your consistency especially if you highlight numbers: the hours, how many cards you made, or which hospitals received these cards (if more than one place!). Don’t sell yourself short. Highlight those accomplishments. In terms of short internship highlight what you did rather than just stating it plainly. Hope this helps!

hi! it depends on how you spin it. if you learned stuff from the nurses while you were there or were inspired by their patient care, etc. you can also talk about that! You can also talk about how your jobs (if they did) allow you to speak up (gain confidence), if you were a leader in your role. i would also mention things you did outside of work. did you volunteer? things like that! i hope this helps.

Hi! I’m not sure if you will see this today, but my application for UCLA is due today. I was planning on applying for nursing, but I just realized that they don’t look at your alternate major when applying. I have been wanting to attend UCLA ever since my brother started going his freshman year (he’s now a sophomore). I only started thinking I wanted to become a nurse this past year, and because of COVID i have absolutely no volunteer experience in a medical setting. I think I really want to be a nurse, but with no volunteer experience and a low acceptance rate, I am super scared that I will get rejected from my dream school. I am debating as of right now whether I want to apply under nursing or under another similar undergrad and try to apply to a different nursing school after I get a similar Bachelors Degree. I am not sure what to do! Let me know if you have any advice :)
@TriciaYsabelle
@TriciaYsabelle 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! It doesn’t matter if you don’t have experience in a medical setting but you should be able to know what a nurse does and why you want to go into nursing. If you can answer that solidly plus have a good resume of leadership/teamwork (basically things that make you shine on your resume) then it may be worth a shot to apply! You can also do ucla undergrad and come back for the MECN or some accelerated BSN program. When I say solidly I mean really have a solid answer as to why nursing. You could talk about covid and how that’s affected you but you want to make sure you sound certain about your choice in nursing! It all really depends on how solid you think your app is. I’m sorry that this answer isn’t that decisive but I hope it gives some perspective!

@@TriciaYsabelle Thank you so much for the quick reply! I already submitted my app, but after some careful thinking I decided to apply to UCLA nursing! It kind of hit me all at once when it came down to this decision how much I really want to be a nurse and how much I feel like that’s the right career for me. I’m super nervous but excited because I know I made the right decision. Thanks for the tips and perspective! Excited for the future!

hi I have a question about minors, which did you take and what do you recommend? And is there any way for me to take korean as a minor or as an extra minor?
@TriciaYsabelle
@TriciaYsabelle 4 жыл бұрын
hi! i didn't take a minor. i would say do something you think would be useful to you in the future/something you enjoy! I did have a classmate who decided she wanted to take spanish as a minor our second year. Because nursing is a four year program and all our classes were accounted for, she had to stay an extra year. I'm not sure if it would've made a difference if she decided freshman year. I would think not though just because some classes are only offered certain times a year so I do think you would have to stay an extra year if you wanted to minor.

hi thanks for your video! i was super inspired by it! i’m a junior in high school, working on my senior schedule. so far i’ve taken regular biology my freshman year, regular physics my sophomore year, and i’m currently taking honors chemistry as a junior. for my senior year, i have the option to take regular physiology or AP Bio. i want to stand out in my application but i also don’t wanna stress myself out too much. out of these two (physiology and AP Bio), which science would you recommend i take my senior year? the additional AP’s i’ve taken are AP World History, and AP Spanish, and i passed both exams with a 4 and a 5. this upcoming semester i’ll be taking AP US History, and i’m confident i’ll pass the exam. the other AP’s i am signed up to take my senior year are AP gov, AP stats, and AP english lit and composition. would it be worth it taking the AP Biology course with the rest of the AP’s i listed above or should i just go with the regular physiology class and take a bio anatomy class at a community college the summer before i transfer? i look forward to hearing from you!! thanks:)

i forgot to talk about my extracurriculars! i also have earned my bronze and silver award for girl scouts and i am working on getting my gold award as well! i have plans to volunteer at rady children’s hospital here in san diego, and i have been in key club since my sophomore year. this year, being in my junior year, i have taken a leadership position for the club and i am on the fundraising committee. i played volleyball at my high school my freshman year and i was team captain. i also am an active volunteer at my church. i am working on balancing some more activities, as well as focusing on consistency with certain things:)

AP bio definitely, remember that UCLA also looks for course rigor. Always pick AP over regular classes even if it doesn’t pertain to nursing

think about it, maybe there are a lot of people who will take physiology. it’s not that difficult of a course either, but AP bio is and that’ll make more people shy away from it. AP bio will make you stand out and will help you out in college for your freshman bio class!
