Just got my N last night. I live in NYC and the prices I was getting from day 1 were unreal. First dealership that had one wanted...$969 a month and they had a market adjustment price of $8900 on top of sticker. That's basically the entire MSRP on a lease and would make this car 55k to own. I went/called about 5 more dealerships and the lowest I was getting was $3500 out of pocket and $567 a month. At that point I figured it wasn't meant to be until a friend recommended a dealership they had purchased a few vehicles from. It luckily worked out and here is what I got, 36 month lease 10,000 miles a year for $450 a month nothing out of pocket. That includes the sales tax for NYC. I had an expired leased Subaru Crosstrek and they gave me 25k for it and I was able to apply 8k to bring the price down. So yes, I overpaid but in reality my end of lease Subaru should not have been above what the bank was owed by 8k. I'm happy with it and I stayed within my budget. Also that was the lowest price on a lease that I got quoted on any car period. Subaru wanted $527 a month with $4500 out of pocket for the same Crosstrek I was paying $378 for previously so this was literally the best deal I could get anywhere. Love the valve caps but those would be robbed in a day in NYC.

Yes, Hyundai/Kia/Genesis is out selling Honda/Acura by a large margin this year. Honda seems to be really struggling. Late to EVs, a long in the tooth Accord and CRV. The Civic just does not sell like the Corolla even though it maybe should.

What would you say is the biggest difference between this Kona N from the other hot hatchbacks? Higher seating position?
@true_n_thusiast
@true_n_thusiast 2 жыл бұрын
That’s definitely probably the biggest difference. I know a lot of people who review the car have said it feels like a hatchback but in my opinion after owning for about two months I think the car just feels like it’s in its own class. I owned a civic hatch and in my opinion they feel completely different. Not quite sure how to explain it.

Mine is 1 out of 3 on the market around the country. I got it under sticker price around $3000. This car got my attention the first time hyundai announced it. I have the cash to go for any car on the market but no more exciting deals either you go bankrupt or go boring. I think also that this product senses nostalgic to the era of lunatic builds like Skyline, Subaru's Imprza, Supras, Evos and the list goes on where the focus was on diving experience which I was looking for. I couldn't afford one as I was a teenager but there is nothing left when I get the cash if you know what I'm saying 😅. I've done bunch of research for a while on this car and all I found is almost perfection so I ain't hesitate when I went for it. Believe it or not, it's more than I wanted the feel of satisfaction you get every time you get behind the wheel is priceless. This thing transform literally from a cute looking car to a beast in matter of a press. It is a complete sleeper I took off Kona emblem and black painted hyundai and red accents around the car so it looks low key. It is so fun when feel drivers around you go huh! 😮 once you go full throttle. Dude if you have the cash and this N fits in your list just go for it.

The only add on I decided to go with in the finance office was wheel and tire coverage because of the custom wheels and performance tires that come with this car, so I know I’m covered if anything were to happen. It’s the only thing I’d recommend adding for anyone purchasing this vehicle.

Just the way the market works sometimes.. When there was a huge shortage of chips for vehicle manufacturers the value of the used market skyrocketed and my civic was worth more than I owed on it. Usually you lose money getting out of a lease early but it worked for me! Hope this helps. 👍

The Kona N is a very nice car, I love it. What about the durability of the new N Performance 8 DCT transmission? You can read that other DCT transmissions have many problems.

I can’t really say much on durability as the car hasn’t been released for a long time yet.. But I will say the transmission feels amazing. I’m sure it will hold up well but I’ll eventually make a long term review so you can be on the look out for that in the future. :)

Going on my 4th month with the DCT Veloster N and uh, I haven't been gentle with it and I pretty much always drive it in manual mode (aside from when that's annoying, like in dense traffic). So far so good, hasn't missed a beat and it has a multitude of prompts for it's overall health per the manual (If it's getting to unsafe temps, if it has reached unsafe temps, and it'll warn you if you creep too much). Live in Florida, and compared to my Focus which had a DCT (dry though) it was notorious for overheating and slipping or just causing problems but this one has been a literal dream; does exactly what you want, feels just like a manual with it's kicks and all it's sounds but is as convenient as an automatic. It has the same quirks as VW's DSG to some respect, lil slow when approaching stoplights and suddenly when they turn green to booking it (takes a moment for it to downshift because it wasn't expecting it) but that's a problem on just about all automatic's just the DCT's you feel it a bit more due to the mechanical bits of it. It's perhaps the best on the market IMHO, best automatic I have ever driven.

Good to know and thanks for the reply! I’ve been looking for either a Kona N or Veloster at MSRP but I’ve really been having trouble with Hyundai dealers. Plenty of “at msrp” followed by 3 to 5k of mandatory add ons lol. If I could get one at msrp I’d already been driving one right now but if no one comes down, they’ll have lost a sale. Hope I can snag one though but if not I’ll definitely get one in the used market once things come back to normal. I love the Veloster styling compared to the Kona but the 3 doors is a big goofy lol. Glad you have been loving the Kona!

Did you pay off the lease yourself and then trade it or have Hyundai payout your lease? Hyundai wants nothing to do with buying out my kia lease and yeah.. it's like 30% more trade vs my buyout so you are spot on. I called other dealers as well and that seems like the trend. Nobody wants to buyout other manufactures leases. Edit: Oh wait, I am still watching your video and you just answered my question!

When Hyundai first announced the N cars I knew I had to get one, i went to multiple dealerships looking for them but I couldn't find any. After a month of trying to hunt one down I finally found a Elantra N I drove 200 miles to San Diego California after talking to a sales manager and telling him that I am on my way to buy it just to find out that it sold just before I got there, 2 days later I tracked down a Veloster n and drove 112 miles to Fontana California I test drove it and tried to make a deal but the dealer was very pushy with the extended warranty and add-ons and would not take no for an answer finally I hear that a dealer in Loma Linda California was getting a Kona N and I told myself I'm getting this one no matter what so I went to the dealer an hour before they opened and checked their lot for it but couldn't find it, I went to sit in my car until they opened and that's when I saw it parked on the show room floor. When they finally let me in I walked straight to the Kona and told the salesman to get the key because I'm taking this one home. I do feel like I over paid for it but I couldn't hide how much I wanted it, I test drove it and knew I'd pay just about anything to get it. They were asking $36,000 for it I put $20,000 down and after taxes & everything I financed $28,000 at around 4.5% for a monthly payment of $475. I got the race red but I have an appointment to have a wrap designed for it and an appointment at FMS Performance to plan out additional modifications.

The problem is the idiots that pay over sticker, so the dealers will continue to charge it. My local dealer has the same off-blue/white one thats been on the lot for 2+ months. They got in a red one and it sold within 5 days of landing. I tried to trade in my 2021 Sonata for a 2022 Sonata N-Line from the same dealer I bought it from and the scumbags refused to sell it for MSRP. Just last year they were lucky to get MSRP and had to discount the N-lines but I couldn't afford it back then. I refuse to pay a dime over retail.

My story: Metro Tucson, AZ, may have a population of 1 million+, but in terms of car dealerships it's a one-horse town. The Hyundai dealer here has a monopoly, charges (and gets) what the traffic will bear, and is not inclined to offer specialty cars a-la the Kona N. So we had to schlep 1.2 hours up I-10 to the Phoenix metroplex to go fish in the Big Pond. I've NEVER paid more than 90% of MSRP for a car in my life, so that's what I offered the first dealer we visited, which had tacked on a list of dealer add-ons as long as your arm and was charging a $2,000 "market adjustment." They wouldn't budge, so we walked out. Same with the next two stores we visited. But that was the week BEFORE Memorial Day weekend. By Memorial Day Monday, the dealers were calling US, and by that evening we'd made a firm deal to buy a Sonic Blue Kona N for MSRP: No charges for the dealer adds, no "market adjustment," no F and I shakedowns on the usual list of give-backs, such as an extended warranty, when we arrived to pick up the car. We didn't have a trade-in so they couldn't even factor in give-to-get money for that. Just MSRP for the Kona N which frankly is worth TWICE what we paid.
