How I Got Sponsored & Made Cycling My Job

I get messages every single day from people asking me how to get sponsored, how to get 'free stuff,' how to get hooked up, how to become an ambassador, how to make a living out of cycling... the list goes on. So I thought I'd make a video about my journey as a blogger, rider, vlogger, ambassador, journalist and creator.
One thing I forgot to mention here is my experience working in marketing. Before I worked as a bike messenger, I worked at a record label in digital marketing and PR. And I also had freelance marketing clients at the same time as being a bike messenger.

For me, the thing about your videos that makes them interesting is that you are so down to earth. You are not afraid to laugh or cry, you are sharing your journey and we are invited along. Thank you 🙏

As someone who found you here not that long ago, I love hearing your KZfaq origin story. And, based on your attitude and demeanor in your videos, to learn that you had the drive and moxie to create your life, yourself, comes as no surprise. I realized recently that as I cue your videos up, as they begin to begin, I hear your "good morning" in my head before you say it, and I begin to smile. And that's something. Thank you. “Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.” - Rumi.

Well done, Juliet. There must be youngsters out there thinking "how hard can it be to just blog and vlog and get paid for it". But you show that where you are now is the culmination of a ten year project, and even that needed you to be in the right place at the right time when fixies were taking off. Respect to you!

Very nice Juliet, curious, were you ever courted by GCN? I saw you in a couple of their vids, and seen you in their kit, you would have been a good addition to their team (especially before they got all the other new people).

Following you since two weeks from now is just and enjoying this video for the journey you have accomplished to get there. Been myself a cyclist in my young age, I just admire your multidisciplinary bike aspect. But what like most is the fixed gear bike competitions. It would have been great to have these type of races in our country. It was only available in Velodrome racetrack. Just to let you know to keep on going for your contribution on this channel. So enjoyable.

"Create your own reality." You took your passion and your skill to communicate and turned that into exactly what you hoped it would be. Alot of people see your success and think I should be where she is but they more than likely lack your vision and determination/drive to succeed. You have "created your own reality."

It's easy to see why all of these brands seek your endorsement. You're honest, opinionated and engaging. It's easy to understand why so many KZfaqrs need outside sponsorship to create and inspire content. Also, to make producing content viable.

Juliet, really enjoyed that, thanks for the insight. A couple of quick questions: - How does cycling compare to snowboarding in terms of media exposure? Could you of had a similar career for the same length of time in snowboarding? - Also, do you think there is a way to change how cycling is perceived by the general public? Whilst cycling has grown massively in recent years it still feels like the general public see it as 'niche', (including as a sport) whereas snowboarding is seen as being much cooler (no pun intended) - despite most people never having been snowboarding (or even watched it as a sport). Do you think the way it's portrayed in the general media has played a part in this? Whilst there is plenty of dedicated cycling related magazines/blogs/vlogs/youtube channels etc., there doesn't seem to be much 'positive' coverage of any of the many strands of cycling in the general media. I live/commute in London and it's not uncommon to be waiting at the traffic lights surrounded by 30+ cyclists so I can't imagine it's down to cycling's popularity and a lack of interest. While there is even less coverage of snowboarding, that coverage tends to be far more positive. (nb. I’ve only chosen Snowboarding as an example as it was your previous sport). -------- Sorry, that question was a longer than originally intended. :-) Really enjoy your vlogs and blogs. Keep up the good work.

You get to the point and keep things reasonably concise in most videos. So many youtube vids have 3 or 4 minutes of not useful preface before they get into it and then go on in a cumbersome overly long style. So what do you do as a viewer, skip through the vid and move on to something else. You never do that slow distracted vid style. This vid got into it quickly and moved along efficiently.
