I ended up with a burn-out a few months ago, which triggered an underlying depression. I’ve been watching Chris Ramsay videos for some time and now that my mind is slowly starting to work again, I decided to make my own puzzle box. Thanks for the video, which shows that it is okay to try something and that it is okay if things aren’t perfect the very first time. I’m not sure if this is going to be a potential hobby or career, but hearing your experience with starting gives some kind of reassurance and motivation. Thank for the insight into the start of your business!

Really great story! You might consider doing an instructional video on how to make a simple puzzle box with hand tools. It could be a really good entry point to your work and harness the massive amount of people looking at woodworking project content!

You have confidence in yourself, and developing a business needs that. I had several failures before success. I've made a few puzzle boxes for fun, designing them does strain the brain! So I see there are lots of your videos to watch! Oh, wow !

Very inspiring Jesse! I’m in the position where I have a karakuri style design that I’m happy with, & working on the mechanism… but pretty limited wood working skills…. & I’m not getting any younger. Next step- finding a wood shop that I can learn in… baby steps. Love your work mate 👍

Jesse, I am a lifelong woodworker. My father taught me. I'm 50 years old and don't remember starting. I graduated high school and went straight into building furniture and cabinets. I was disabled in 2012 in a car accident. I still work in the shop as much as I am able. I mainly make crafts with a small cnc and co2 laser. Where would you recommend learning how to make puzzle boxes? I don't want to mass produce them. I'd just like to build them for gifts and because they seem challenging. Do you have any advice?

Hi Jesse, I went to a very respected university (CalPoly SLO in CA) with a motto of "Learn by doing". You have NOT offended in any way. I still have and use my first wood project in my shop I made over 50 years ago, but more importantly I still retain the knowledge I gained while making it. The knowledge, that you have gained over the past ~5yrs running your own business is invaluable. Remember that Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Mark Zukerburg, Jack Dorsey, Dick Cheney, Michael Dell and many others never finished collage as well. "I look for "evidence of exceptional ability" in a potential employee, rather than a degree from a prestigious university." - Elon Musk.

I use to say college isn't for everybody. Now days I'm not sure it is for anybody who is actually looking to be successful other than a doctor, engineer, lawyer or veterinarian. Seriously some of the degrees that are offered these days have no Real world practical applicability and the kid ends up broke and working at McD's. Go to a trade school or jump right into the work force right out of HS and work your butt off you'll be further ahead and have Way less debt.

I make puzzle boxes and desks as well. I've been watching your content for a while and I've been so conflicted about messaging you this the whole while. I can't deal with the whole camera stuff while I work but it's great that you can. For every build, you have potential for 3 great videos but your channel lacks this content. First is the build. I've seen your videos of your builds but so much detail is missing. Is this because you don't want people reproducing your boxes? The second would be the preview of the box. I've seen you do this as well and I have no complaints. The third video could be solving the box. Like somebody that doesn't know the solution. I really don't understand why you don't show this. I also think the videos roll to long. This is all my own personal opinions so none of it really matters but I am terrible at holding my tongue. Ty
