I did the same thing, I called decorators in my area and asked if they were getting rid of out of season design books. I had a design shop tell me "how did you know?!, as a matter of fact we do have several right now and would love to get rid of them". I stopped over and they LOADED my jeep. I shared them with my daughter and we used some to make banners for her wedding decorations. It's a great way to get free supplies. I got fabric swatch books also. I dissected them and plan to use the book board to make journals with as well.

You can also get fabric samples from the furniture store when they go to different styles/patterns. They would be great for covers.

I love wallpaper books. I've used them in many different projects in the past 12 years. I collect them from a supplier when they become discontinued for free. I have several videos of my wallpaper books. And how I use them. Great to start seeing other crafters using this wonderful resource in different ways in their journals too. 🌷🌷

When you are done using the wallpaper from the books, use the books for other things, for example, a bigger junk journal or scrapbooks. Awesome

I did that years and years ago before scrapbooking was so popular and expensive. That was when you had to hunt and use cast-aways and found things you got from the trash or other places.

Thanks to your video, I received 4 wall papers books, a huge bag of loose wallpaper samples and numerous leftover wallpaper rolls all fit free. I was just as excited to receive them as they were to get rid of them! 🤣

I, too, just picked up a TRUNK load of wallpaper books!! Can you say "happy dance"?! 😆 My dear hubby helped me cut the covers off some books & cut some of them down to a good size for sturdy journal covers. Then I bought some plastic containers from Amazon, made dividers out of those fronts & backs of the books that we cut off, and categorized the paper into flowers, stripes, plaids, textures, etc. & stored them under my craft table.

Great ideas from the covers. I used to cut them up and create drawers from them and other storage ideas. The covers are very sturdy too.

those are nice, love the textured ones, just in case you had not heard, a lot of journal creators go to estate sales, they even have them online, if you hit the treasure trove, you can find lace and other sewing essentials, old books, stationery supplies, buttons, oh the list goes on, but you get the idea and it's like shopping at a thrift store, dollar store is great for book pages etc, happy hunting and thanks for the video.

I called my local Lowes and they said yes! They had plenty to give me When I got there they had two shopping carts full! They were calling me often to destash. I eventually had to decline anymore offers.

Use them all the time. The 1st two you showed are expired this year. I pick up every December and I recognize those ones. I got about 75 various sizes this year and share with my local crafting friends. I even use the pages with pics of the paper. They make awesome tags, some of them. Congrats on your score. You will enjoy using them.

You can use the textured ones as stencils in your coffee-dying, as well. I had at least 20 books at one time but had to get rid of them when we moved to a smaller place. The stores are happy to get rid of them because they are really heavy to just throw out. I've heard that upholsterers get free sample books, too, but I've never tried to ask them for their expired books. As a Girl Scout leader, I used to get free end rolls at the newspaper office and all sizes/shapes/colors of card stock at printers. Again, they were just going to be thrown out so they were glad to save a trip to the dumpster. But this was about 15 years ago and I don't know if such things are still available. Also, our Girl Scout Council had a deal with the local Joanns where we would get boxes and boxes of after-season stuff from them for FREE! Doubt they do that anymore with the Michael's $4 boxes thing that's going now - Joann's probably does something similar. Good score!

Yes, I’ve done this before for my classroom, the kids love using them in art projects. So I have some left from that. The shops in my town are pretty willing to share them instead of throwing them away.

Probably some of your best bet to find vintage wall paper is actually checkout flea markets and restores. They have vintage wall paper sometimes.

That is SO cool!!! A local paint shop?? Hmmm I will have to call around. Of course after this huge storm we are currently living through in TX. I just got power back on yesterday and now we deal with the water issue! I swear it feels like I am living through a zombie apocalypse! It is crazy! I am watching your channel rn to get my mind off of the stress yet here I am writing all about it in this comment....hahaha Anyways what a cool find! Due to covid lockdowns, a local shop which sold paint and wallpaper had to close. I went in for hardware, but asked about their wallpaper samples. They can't sell them so planned to put the lot in a dumpster. I filled my cargo van with all of them. Hundreds. 😁

I picked up 14 books of old expired wallpaper about 3 years ago. It was so fun to discover all of the pretty pages. Some were way too far out there but a lot of it was just so pretty. I cut some into thin strips to sort of make borders or a bright strip of color here and there. So fun and the sky is the limit. Happy journaling.

experimrnt dying and pressing floral things from garden, etc. Yiu won't believe the beautiful paper you end up with. I added thin metallic paints which gave me beautiful plant outlines. Experiement with papers you don't think you want.

Yes, I did this same thing a couple of years ago. They gave me three large ones and I love them and have been using them in my journals! They were glad to get them off their hands because they were expired. Love your creativity. Have been following you for almost 3 years.

I was thinking about doing just this earlier this week, and then I catch this video this evening! I am in Gold Coast Queensland Australia. Wish me luck! I'm sure we can find many uses for these and to pass some on to other crafters would be so helpful. Covering boxes and containers for storage is also one of my thoughts.

I should have mentioned that my husband made a huge flower/paper press so this works great. I leave it out in the sun to get the papers dry quicker. Also, small holes in the press help it dry faster.

Ladies, Here's a suggestion--How about giving these free wallpaper books to inner-city or impoverished area schools that are in dire need of supplies? Often teachers themselves have to buy things from their own pockets for the kids. Think about the difference it would make in a child's life if their love of making art could bloom--- due to your kind generosity !

Talk to a manager and ask if they can save some. If the place is able, sometimes they will. Doesn't hurt to ask.

I was wondering how you stick them? I got a load once, and couldn't find a thing to use on them, as glue or tape were both useless. Staples or sewing worked, but that isn't always convenient for projects.

If your surface is sturdy enough to handle wet media (canvas or 90- to 140 lb watercolor paper or 65- 110 lb cardstock, for example), you can use Mod Podge or matte medium or gel medium. Gel medium gives you a stronger hold. Those mediums act as glue, and collage artists tend to prefer them over other types of adhesives. You need to paint the surface with the gel medium, then place the wall paper on top of that and make sure you have air bubbles smoothed out (unless you want them as texture), and then paint over the top of the wall paper with the medium to ensure a good, strong seal.

But they are junk journals and if you are buying stuff to put in them they are not junk journals! I am fairly new to this, but I only use what I have I can't afford to go out and spend a lot of money, and the journals I have made people have been delighted with them! I use stamps and ink so make my own flowers etc etc!

I don't sell my books, I give them away to friends. So, I scan the pages I really like to make ephemera. I don't know if you're allowed to do that with books that get sold.

The design copyright belongs to the designer and/or the company that commissioned the design or hired the designer. It's fine to scan and reproduce for your own journals that you use or sell to others. But you could get in trouble if you scan the design and then sell it as, for example, a digital download in an Etsy shop. That would be considered commercial use of the wall paper design itself, and someone else owns the rights to the design. But like I said, if you use it in a journal that you designed and then sell that journal (not a mass produced version of it) to someone, you're not violating copyright laws.
