I’m pretty new at cross stitching. My first and last project was over 25 years ago. I didn’t really like the picture and because it was a large pattern, I wasn’t motivated to finish. I donated everything I purchased for it to Goodwill. Going forward, my daughter wanted to find someone to cross stitch a cute Jim Henson pattern for my granddaughter’s room. I couldn’t resist so here I am revisiting cross stitching. Your work is beautiful and if you’re a newbie, I am definitely inspired. Thank you for sharing your new found passion. I really enjoy your style of video and cross stitch so of course I subscribed. Hugs and love from Canada 🇨🇦 🤗💕

I do hand embroidery & now am interested in cross stitch. I definitely wanna try gridding! I struggled a bit being able to see anything with the vibrant fabric & matching thread, but I get the gist of the process. I used to watch you a lot when I was in my diamond painting phase (all my crafts go through phases & I always come back eventually haha), so I'm probably gonna watch you more again but with the cross stitch right now ha!

Wow! Totally new concept. I had no knowledge that you needed to grid your fabric. Makes very good sense to a beginner cross-stitcher.

A nylon red fishing wire, is most cost effective in my opinion and works amazing! It’s similar to east counts guideline thread

Wow! The pattern & fabric is gorgeous. Not sure I have the patience. You are amazing. Bless you. I kept thinking I would want to use Taylor’s chalk, hahaha. Like when you are working on a sewing project with the tracing paper & sewing wheel. I am 68 yrs old so I tried in my youth to sew clothes using a pattern. Tried but definitely was not a seamstress. Thanks for sharing this process. Obviously have never done any cross stitching. Can’t wait to see it coming along.

Rachel Rae like I said you are amazing. Loved to see you work. I was just saying what came to mind. I think they sell the tracing paper & wheel on Amazon but I am not sure that would even work with what you are doing. I do not cross stitch so I am totally ignorant. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Hi Rachel, thank you for this wonderful video. You explained everything well and it was easy to understand. I appreciate this so much! I started stitching again after a 6 month break and I've forgotten a lot of techniques. Just ordered the metallic thread. I'm so excited to stitch again! :)

Your grid looks so beautiful! is perfect of a stitcher with OCD =) I grid too, but i use some leftovers floss of another project or some color that doesn't like me; this part is something that i really hate from cross stitch but definitely makes easier the process to stitch. Trying to save some time gridding i make a line every 20 holes (instead of every 10) =)

HI, Rachel. Thanks for the tutorial, but have an ask: Would you consider re-taping it using a white or ecru fabric? It was a tad challenging watching this on a such a robust/colorful fabric. Thanks!

Hi Rachel! Thank you for this video. I stitch on linen, so will have to make some adjustments in counting there. Having trouble wrapping my head around the blank corners. Maybe if I watch a video of you stitching your project I will see it. 😻

There are other methods people use where they only make corners, or draw directly on the fabric!

Hi Rachael what a amazing video, very well explained I am going to be gridding on black Aida. I was just wondering if your thinking of doing a unpicking video of how to remove the grids afterwards or is it just a case of snipping the ends and pulling? Thank you so much again Nicki x

How does this do in a hoop? Do the long gridded lines stay straight? Do you prefer this method over the fine point mark-be-gone fabric pen?
@cltherrien
@cltherrien Жыл бұрын
I had never gridded before but I was doing a large project and so had decided to do it after watching videos on it, including yours. When I removed my grid lines, you could see where the lines were, and especially could see the 4 corners of each grid, especially on the lighter areas such as skin tones, and other light colors. Can’t tell you how upset I am because this took me 2 1/2 years to stitch only to find this happened. I would never have gridded had I known this was a possibility. I haven’t washed it yet, but I’m really hoping it will help. Has this happened to you and, if so, were you able to get rid of it? I will, from now on, spring for the extra $$ for a pre-gridded fabric.

I got the gist of it but got confused when it came to the subject of corners, there was a-lot of skipping, could you do it on a piece of white fabric ?
@tntori5079

First time doing a grid on a piece this way, this video was super helpful and mine it turning out great! I do have on hiccup though that you didn't address: Starting/End threads mid row. As I see in this video, you start your thread with a knot underneath and this knot is located on the outside of the actual grid. I took this to be because once you pull it out when done the knot would prevent that if it was in the middle or the grid. But what happens if you run out of thread and you're dead middle of your gird? Still just make a small knot? Just loop it a time or two? I'm already looking around for a follow-up video showing more about what the pulling out process looks like. Thanks!
@RachelRaeCraft
@RachelRaeCraft 4 жыл бұрын
Essentially I always work from the outside. If I don't have enough to make it back around to the outside, I stop the sulky short or go back to the edge to finish off the thread. If you stop/start in the middle, it will be too difficult to take it out later.

Hey there ! This is helpful. My sister just sent me everything to do a project I have been wanting to do * bless her* and I want to do a good job. I decided I definitely wanted to grid ( never have) first place I look is here. I totally get it one question tho.. I dont have any special thread and in way dont feel like waiting on shipping. . Is it ok to use some normal floss and what would be any issues with that? And if my project covers it ok is it necessary to remove it could I just leave it there ? I guess I will know for sure once I get going. Just wondering if you have time let me know you're thoughts. And thank you for all you do.
@RachelRaeCraft
@RachelRaeCraft 4 жыл бұрын
I think you can do it that way, Rebecca, especially if you're careful to put your needle under the thread instead of over it. You may still be able to cut it out. I don't have any experience with it, though, I've only read it online. I've always used these because it's so easy to pull out after you're finished your project :)

Rachel, this is a great tutorial except for the color of the fabric and the color of the floss you're using. Another issue I have is that the camera is so far from your hands that when you point to a particular line of cross stitching, no one can see what you're pointing to.
