I think melasma is caused by anxiety, fear of the future and not being able to handle problems as they come along. So you're in constant worry mode, your mind going in circles trying to prevent a bad event. Thus releases cortisol hormone which causes melasma. This is my current theory. I'm working on being ok learning from experience and making mistakes and knowing i can handle the problem as it comes along. Also bring ok knowing I'm not perfect and can make mistakes. Please reply if you're a worrier or have a lot of anxiety. Maybe we can see a pattern here. All disease is basically your body telling you there are negative emotions and thoughts that you're ignoring.

Omg I'm also a big worrier and have the same issue I never knew it had to do with stress! I find it so hard to face problems and worry all the time, I need to learn to relax and just let go! For everyone who commented that the laser treatment is what cured her melasma...I had that same laser treatment done 10 times...yes TEN (Over the course of two years) and it made my melasma WORSE. Diet and supplements to regulate my hormones is what actually worked. It took me years to treat Melasma. Her treatments here are sound and some combo will work for you too.

Jessica Ciraulo How did change your diet? What supplements did you take?
@MilkBliss
@MilkBliss 5 жыл бұрын
Michelle Bennett I didn’t take supplements. I just started eating cleaner in general. Melisma is hormonal and then made worse by sun and heat. First thing to do is stay out of the sun, and if you do have to go out wear a very high SPF like 50. If your face gets too hot it will worsen also. When working out I keep a cool cloth to dampen my face. If you are on birth control with hormones it will worsen the melisma as well. In my opinion, figuring out how to balance your hormones is the only way to truly combat melisma. I do think facials such as microdermabrasion would also help to get rid of some of it, however, that is an expensive route. Microplaning can def help as well as she mentioned.

I put Tea Tree oil on it and it's almost gone in a week...I heard it takes 3 weeks. I sometimes use a coconut oil as a carrier oil with it and sometimes not. Some say malasma is a fungus. So antifungals like Applce cider vinegar, sea salt or diluted bleach as well. Some acne is from fungus as well. Diet, sugar, yeast, sweating & the sun can make the fungus grow. But there are many solutions so keep faith 💖

Something that has been helping me is that before I shower I massage my face either with avocado oil or almond oil(the oi is not important, chose what's best for your skin) for 10 minutes and then, right after I shower I immediately let very cold water refresh my skin. I also use pure aloe vera, it is completely natural since I take it directly from the leaf and place it in a tight glass jar and use it daily. My melasma is still there, but it is much lighter than before, I can actually hide it under makeup.

Be careful with laser (IPL). I visited with a top notch cosmetic dermatologist and paid heftily ($$$) for this procedure after YEARS of research and consideration. The results were great at first after initial healing, but melasma came back worse after a few months. I later visited with another doctor and was told laser and/or any heat/light treatments are the worst possible type of treatment for persons experiencing this condition. The logic goes: why would you treat with the same thing that is aggravating the condition (in this case light/pulsed rays)? Something to think about. Best to you!

Something I've noticed from all of the videos I've watched thus far. People with naturally darker/olive complexions like myself are more susceptible to melasma. Its in the DNA. Unfortunately there's just not a whole lot we can do to avoid it. Even avoiding the sun doesn't help. Lasering will just worsen it and we scar darker on top of the hyperpigmentation. Its just frustrating. I've been rocking my melastache (among other areas) for a good while now. A good CC cream and full coverage foundation has helped, other than that, its a part of me now.

I have olive skin/ green undertones. And I suddenly developed melasma in my 30s. I've never had any hormonal issues, don't spend time in the sun. I have two long patches under my eyes. I've also had a ring of hyperpigmentation around my mouth since forever. But on top of that, I've also developed vitiligo on my cheeks and so the melasma is even more pronounced. I've managed to find a foundation that covers and balances all my pigmentation issues. But it's really knocked my confidence. Kids in school used to tease me about the hyperpigmentation around my mouth (used to ask me if I washed my face). And now as an adult it's even worse. But I have a patch of white/ vitiligo on then dark area around my mouth. I am just hoping the vitiligo will take all the hyperpigmentation away, and it all even out. My skin looks a mess. I went to a dermatologist about the 'brown patches' and she explained about hyper-pigmentaiton, and also noted that I had lost pigmentation on my cheeks and around my eyes, which was making the hyper-pigmentaiton look worse. I am trying vitamin C treatments. I also try and do a turmeric mask as often as I can, on the dark areas of my skin.

It comes back because the under lying cause is, inflammation. The inflammation causes the hormonal imbalance, and the or the sun triggers to cause patches, and every body has a different trigger to their inflammation - alcohol - caffeine - processed foods - not enough water - aging and the environments we choose to live in cause us to heal differently over time, so it is ever changing our diet, and needs to keep inflammation at bay.

I bought a far infra red light bulb from ruby lux. Its like a heat lamp bulb. I did not buy the LED light bulb, I bought the heat producing far infra red bulb. I bought a Pixar lamp with a flexible am for 10.00 at the local thrift store (make sure the inside of the lamp that you screw the bulb into is ceramic or metal because the bulb is hot and it will melt a plastic one) . The bulb is really hot and it can burn you if you touch your skin on it but I hold it away from my skin enough to where I can tolerate it comfortably and it zeros in directly on my melisma. It’s wild, I usually do about 15 mnts a day and when I am finished I get huge red blotches right on my melasma. I am so freaking happy with the results. It was a total accident!!!! I used to wear so much make up to try to cover it up and it only made it look worse. I think it faded about 70% I live in Florida and the sun just beat on my face and it was really hard to correct it. I wonder if I can try to send a picture on this?? I will try.

I remember getting M in Barli I got rid of it. Years later I got it again but ins different spots near my eyes. And it seems to be stuck this time around 😩. I'm also vegan. But I notice I got it after taking antibiotics and painkillers after removing my wisdom tooth. It's been months! I have been able to reduce it. But it's still here.

I have melasma over 3yrs now. I tried soo many different things including professional wrong treatments, home treatments, and everything you else you could think of and still not completely went away. I stopped doing hot yoga, steam room, being outside without hat, sun cream. But around 4 months now, I have been using Drunken elephant 12% peel serum and noticed lighten up my dark spot, and of course that’s not the only thing that makes my dark spot lighter but that’s the main product. I’m so happy and grateful 😄 . Your skin look great. Thanks for sharing.

@@drnehayadav7394 my melasma has been lots better and I’m happier but keep in mind it will never go away completely which I’m understand that. I don’t use drunken elephant anymore but I’m using shisedo serum and moisturizer days and nights and adding vit c from Rodial drops for during the day which I love this vit c sooo much. The only down side is $95. Good luck and I learned not to used lot of acids on my face because it can start up again my dark spots.

Thanks for sharing this video! Sorry that so many people left rude comments. I agree that this video was too long and you could have edited it and/or gotten to the point a lot quicker, but I also appreciate your honesty and the fact that you were trying to provide as much info as possible. I realize that most people want a quick fix, but treating melasma and keeping it away is a complicated issue. The number one thing for people to realize is that you CANNOT cure yourself of melasma, you can only manage it. The best thing to do is learn to accept how your skin naturally behaves, and then experiment with a bunch of different treatments until you find something that works. I have struggled with melasma for over 10 years, and I can vouch for almost everything you said, with the exception of taking supplements. I never took any kind of supplements for my melasma, but I did change up my diet several times and it did nothing to improve my skin. After lots of experimentation and seeing a few different dermatologists, I found that the following dramatically reduced the melasma: 1) Fractional laser (Clear and Brilliant is the brand name) is the most effective way to get rid of melasma, although it is not a permanent solution. Creams and lifestyle changes can keep the melasma away, but the laser is essential first step in removing the pigment. 2) Applying oils and toners with vitamins and antioxidants (everyday) are phenomenal at keeping the pigment away and reducing sun damage. 3) Always apply a sunscreen with an SPF 30 or higher whenever you go outside, even if you're not going to be in the direct sunlight. It helps so much to prevent future spots! In fact, the more you can stay out of the sun, the better. If you drive a lot, get a sun-shield for your window so that you can reduce sunlight that hits your face.

I've had melasma for the past year and a half on one cheek only. I've had good improvement with avoiding spicy foods. I love spicy foods- siracha, Tajin, hot sauces, green chile on everything. So, I've cut back about 50% and have visible improvemnt. I'm also using a Collodal/Aloe Vera wound healing gel that has made improvment. It's also healed a small sun-damage spot on the side of my cheek where the drivers side sun bakes the left side of my face. These things work for me. Maybe they'll work for you! Hugs to all! Elisha

I started getting these spots about 6yr ago....right after the birth of my little girl. I’ve watched videos, used creams, changed makeup, caked on the concealer to cover it up....I’ve done it all. At my last checkup with the doctor, I had been feeling tired all the time so I asked he doc if he would check my thyroid. A friend of mine mentioned that it could be related.....so we did the tests, My thyroid was crazy out of whack. I’m hypo...which means I’m not producing enough so we started the medication. I had to have it adjusted twice to get my numbers normal again. It’s been 14 months and I kid u not....my melasma is almost gone. I have just the two faint spots on my cheeks that came first when all this started with my skin. My hormone regulator is fixed. Y’all ask ur doc to check ur thyroid. It’s not a normal run of the mill test they would usually do unless ur older, u ask or u are having symptoms of something that would indicate thyroid (and no, they don’t usually pay attention to skin issues since they aren’t serious) problems. I feel better, my skin looks better...it can’t hurt to check.

It was the treatment mainly. Roship oil is known for lightening skin also if anyone is deciding what oil to pick. Vit C great. The ordinary is cheap but amazing no where near the high prices in thus video. Abrasion can make malasma worse in the long run espeshially if you have olive skin so be careful. My dermatologist told me not to be abrasive on the skin. Contreceptive medication plays a big part in the cause Is known. Cutting it out if you can helps. Be careful if do this obviously! I look forward to trying the Zinc though

You had a laser treatment, so that's probably what helped. I can tell you that shaving my face daily is probably what really helped my dark patches. I have an olive completion, get dark spots really bad, and some spots have been there for YEARS. When I started shaving my entire face daily, it made 98% of the dark spots go away within about 6-8 weeks. Not to mention my skin looks more vibrant. Also, try rose hip oil... it has natural occurring retinol that also helps to exfoliate skin more rapidly (as with shaving). And, it repairs the skin and is an excellent moisturizer. No chemicals-all natural. I just buy the 'Now' brand, and a bottle ($9 at my local health food store) goes a long long way! The 3rd thing to do is to get a cheap rough washcloth, rinse it with really hot water (heat does not affect my skin), and just scrub your skin really good. Doing all 3 of those things will 100% help change your skin. I can actually see fresh rosy skin coming through, as if I had a laser resurfacing treatment.

Also, homemade bone broth (slow cooked for 20+ hrs) in a crockpot does wonders for your skin and whole body. It is also an excellent source of natural collagen. They call it 'liquid botox'. But, if you're vegan, of course, you can't get the benefits of bone broth.

It is a good thing. then put aloe vera on your skin to stop the burning . then try the senegence The climate control & sene serum C it works amazing So many other things works as well its also organic.

all skin ailments are auto-immune disorders, so most important to avoid intense heat, Why override your instincts and body's natural warning signs of duress, your skin should not overheat. Removing all fine hair is essential, wax if possible, but has risks, as you have experienced, tweezing is painstaking, but works. Shaving is a preliminary step, not a solution. Gently tweeze following imaginary arcs, puckers will ease, dark spots will fade. My Dr, recommended a third cup of bleach in my bath, sounds bad, its fine, and does shrink spots. Stay cool, hot yoga practice induces brain fog, another symptom of a challenged immune system, not a mystical experience. Overheating is too challenging for your immune system, counter-effective to the mind/body challenge that elevates spirit and overall health. The benefits of yoga, and any practice are enhanced with a fully healthy experience. Peace!

Thank you for this helpful info. Did you see the most significant difference after the laser treatment, or do you feel it was a combined effort...

I got melasma from dry shaving my face with a razor but I have been doing it for long and I am confused. My self confidence is sooo low and I have tried everything to make it better but nothing works *sigh*

If u visit tropical place with lot of sun, heat, and high humidity as bali, find products with zinc oxide and Calamine, it helps to sooth/cool the skin and reduce chance of the break out, rashes and other heat/sun damages. Of course dont forget the spf on the top of it. Hello from indonesia ❤

I always wanted to be a vegan. Don't know where to start. I was a pescetarian. Now I am on keto. But I do love the vegan lifestyle. Any guidance?

Just eliminate dairy and meat and replace it with boca patties/burgers and Daiya cheese. They also have vegan deli meats and hotdogs/sausages. There are other types of cheese as well (sliced, cubed, etc.). You can eat a tofu scramble which looks exactly like scrambled eggs. Add black salt which tastes like eggs. You can eat ice cream made from coconut/cashew/soy/almond milk. One particular brand is SO Delicious. Like your dips? Make it from mashed beans and add your choice of seasonings. Try adding avocado to the mixture. How about a banana and almond milkshake? Yumm. Want hot chocolate? Instead of reaching for chocolate that contains dairy... there is Hershey's Natural Unsweetened Cocao Powder. Mix with a hot cup of non dairy milk of your choice and don't forget to add a few teaspoons of raw cane sugar. There are so many choices to choose from and it is guaranteed to taste delicious.

Whole Food Plant Based Diet: Nutritionfacts.org , Dr. Esselstyn,'s The China Study, (book) and on Facebook, Forks Over Knives documentary. There's so much out there now, have fun researching and Netflix watching. It makes a big difference because it helps with balancing your hormones, which is what creates melasma. The sun makes it worse, but our hormones dictate what our body/skin does.
