"He does answer, and we do hear Him, but it’s as He determines best in His wisdom and His love."
Elder D. Todd Christofferson says that we should always be ready, willing, and open to #HearHim.
Elder Christofferson is a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Follow him on Facebook here: / dtodd.christofferson
Just as Joseph Smith was asked to #HearHim in the spring of 1820, we are asked to #HearHim today as we celebrate the Restoration of Jesus Christ’s gospel. Our Savior still speaks to us. As we follow His commandments, we will #HearHim. Share your experiences and act on what you hear as you feel the joy the Savior’s words bring.

Spot on. I love our Apostles that suffer so much burden and, frankly, so much hate and belittlement from others. I am so grateful for them and their purity.

I love this message. I feel like the fact that he continued to pray and read the scriptures- even after a disappointing experience of not receiving an answer when he was wanting- is so important. It takes faith to keep trying even when we don’t see results right away- but they WILL come!

With faith that answers do truly come eventually, it will always be easier to keep going even during rather seemingly disappointing moments. What I've learned is that for some reason, I am sort of happy now when I don't recieve an immediate answer because I realize and learn that the answer will be given in a much grander way if we keep having faith and continue walking, even when it seems impractical. The Lord will bless us even more that way in the long run, and we'll see it soon.

Wonderful. This reminds me of a message Elder Oaks shared: "About 35 years ago, when I was president of Brigham Young University, we were making plans to persuade the president of the United States to speak at the university. We had particular times that would suit our convenience, and we had in mind some things we wanted him to say and do while he was there. But all of us were wise enough to know that we could not contact the highest authority in the United States and invite him to come to the BYU campus-even to speak to 26,000 people-and put conditions on his appearance. "We knew that in inviting the president, we had to say in effect, 'We will welcome you whenever you can come and for whatever time you choose to be here and for whatever you choose to say and do while you are here. We will accommodate our schedules and our arrangements entirely to your visit.' "Now, if that’s the way a community of 26,000 people must approach the highest authority of a nation, it should not be surprising that one person-however important-is in no position to put conditions upon or to impose personal timing upon a visit or communication from the Highest Authority in the universe."

I was just thanking our Heavenly Father about every thing that appears as a disappointment to me, this is because I know that they are actually blessings. I know He loves me and will not withhold any good thing from me...just as I was meditating I came upon this post. So timely. Thank you sir for affirming what I perceived in my spirit.

I love that he said he wondered what he'd done wrong, and then later we know he didn't do anything wrong, it just wasn't time for the answer yet. So often I ask questions and I'm waiting for the answer, or when I need help and it doesn't seem to be coming yet, it's hard not to feel "Did I not listen well enough? Did I get the answer and miss it?" and then later, I'll get the answer and realize, like Elder Christofferson did, that there wasn't anything wrong, it just wasn't time.

I love this. I served in the New York Rochester Mission a couple years ago, and the Sacred Grove/ Smith Farm, Hill Cumorah, Grandin Building, and Whitmer Farm were on the mission. I would definitely feel the Spirit, but often found myself look for big answers there because Joseph did, but usually found that as I was acting in faith after the fact, bigger answers and feelings would come. This is very wise counsel from Elder Christofferson.

This is a great lesson. Thank you Elder Christofferson. I've had my own experiences with the Lord's timing that has taught me to trust the Lord, and don't try to counsel the Lord when I pray. I know that may sound funny, counseling the Lord, but I know I'm not the only one. This talk is a reminder to me to trust the Lord and his timing.

Nothing may be there night after night, but I’d imagine that something else is there too. Something Good. I know that when I feel like I’m drowning under a pressure or load or feel some kind of pain or ache or whatever-physical and emotional-and it just feels so HARD and I feel like I’m sinking or just bobbing. And pain is so hard to explain to someone, since no matter the type, it’s internal. I can’t hand it to someone else and have them completely, 100% understand how I feel, all the little details and corners of it. I remember that, while those immediately around me can’t *feel* the pain of my struggle, Jesus can. Because He did. That was a part of Gethsemane. He *felt* ALL of our pain. He knows every small little detail of it. And if He knows every small little detail, then 1) He’d be in the best position to guide me through it and/or make it easier to bear, and 2) I’m not so alone. I’m never alone. Even when I’m physically alone and people have left, I’m not *alone* alone. Because I have the Holy Ghost, and he sits by me, and I have Jesus, who knows all the tiny details of how it hurts. There’s someone, out there in the universe, who perfectly knows with prefect knowledge what it’s like. Not imagining, not He experienced something similar, He felt *exactly* THIS. It’s how I’ve gotten though some of my lowest, most painful points. Knowing that He’s there’s. And He’s not going to keep Himself from me when I shout out His name and reach for His hand. He’ll hold me through it, even if *through it* I must go

You are not alone in that experience. My husband has struggled for years and felt like the heavens are closed to him. Yet he still leaves space for God to Hear him. But it is SO hard for him. And it’s so hard to watch him struggle. But know that you are heard. And you ARE loved. Keep talking to our Heavenly Father, let Him know the deepest aches and sorrows of your heart. And then be still. He will answer you. In His time. Hang in there my friend.

I love this so much. I had a really similar experience visiting the Sacred Grove - I was a little disappointed not to have something more profound while there. I only had a thought that my duty was to be a strong link in the chain of priesthood blessings that resulted from Joseph's prayer. It's reassuring to hear I'm not the only one who has been personally a little let down (temporarily) as I wait for the Lord's timing in answering prayers. Beautiful message!

Yeah maybe that's why it's hard to pray everyday. If you don't know when something's going to happen in response. And if it doesn't you wonder about praying that next day and the point of it. Not to say that that's a correct way of thinking, I know it's not. But I also know what's quite common. Humans aren't about correct ways of thinking, lol.

The church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints , is by your own agency to choose and by the fathers will are thy will be done to choice agency to be agents. Today is not over it ends the beginning again to rule the night ways we see the seasons as time folds and unfolds the sky between heaven and outer darkness. I can't wait to be in tomorrow already by now lagging the night away and seek the light to move together on. The night is young found to serving the same as , it is by the desires of the heart to be hearing the words to speak and the Quickening to come. The promise land , land of our inheritance be by the family to tree the Parable Zion a new Jerusalem with the old. To lay , still and be caught up in the scriptures we spirit to think the soul the body and mind is , to faith the work so its Pertain able to the calling to receive the line of authority by doing so. The , most , starts by the least , to meridian the move to be balanced fortified . If we seek , we hear to be by the drawing that comes to answer the question that is , a reflection to be now , as it goes to come now and again to putting off the natural man and over coming the world. Look around , the way to make it easy is by the work we seek. Be smart , the push to pull and separate the divide , comes by opposition to running water the way , east and west is to north and south. Continental Divide is mathematical measurement to subtotal the outcome by receiving the earnings that be , to poll the elevation so the north poll is by opposition to south , the drainage and divide the run off. My brain injury is by the play to practice the thinking I hear. Check mate , is without warning and check is to move the call to the opportunity im seeking the position to push and pull . The opposition is , by simple terms a mathematical strategy of two , to be One by black are white. Chess is a mathematical move to subject the total by every option to be by the one that comes into play again and out of view and back in again according to the mind that is to the call , that sees the view to play , as it be . Tic tak toe , is the same way , simplified to , picture the same as it be to stay all mate by time to rule the winner quicker than the other , cats game. To play the player and play the game by the advancement by what is not available and available to run the trail the board be so the , move to be , by the strength to rule the board by , the square that is to location the move to take are to sacrifice the board are the pieces. Both , have the move to be the one that aint and the one that is stays the lead to gain the favor of the other by loosing. The winner does not gain the favor it is took away , to rule the rest by check mate , it mates the rest useless . So in defending the time , you can put yourself in , the move to surrender the game by the opponents strength that lacks the time to defeat the clock. It's a shot clock that voids overtime by keeping track of , the game that becomes equal. Its not a tie , game its , a win for the losing side that is in favor of , the time it takes to proceed with the winner . Today is about the move to , be by the one that is in control by another testament of Jesus Christ. If we seek the time , That catches up the difference between going faster and making a better move , the mathematical moves from the divide to % of the people will fail to make the better move , and get beat by the time it takes to figure it out. The night sees fit , the faith it takes to hope and hope has more in common with all things that folds the faith to be . Soon , if we look , the roation can see , the move the night takes to square the day to come so it goes and comes the way we reflection the teaching to meridian the both so does the gospel it be by the move to see it by how we opportunity and blessings be to fold family together living forever coming home to a place we receive it and hooking up the Probationary time spent in , doing the work to be like Jesus. I'm glad we have Jesus is Christ the Eternal God. So the time , is by the desires of the heart found by eternity to come One day to the Manifestation that is crowned with Glory to the fathers will ,in being a family that share the tree of life and the forbidden fruit to come to opposition and learn what is taken and what it takes. Takes family what was took comes the Savior to return the Order and be saved to live again. By following the Prophet , to the gospel we grow to now the all we be in One acord we sing to fold the garden that springs the fruit we be and to the tree of life we seek by believing on Jesus Christ name live forever Amen.

So you're saying you don't talk to God face to face? Isn't that what was supposed to make you a prophet? Why has no "prophet" ever testified of speaking to God face to face since Joseph Smith?
@gluglo2984
@gluglo2984 3 жыл бұрын
God almost never talks to people face to face. In fact, even Joseph Smith only heard "This is my beloved Son. Hear Him." Joseph never spoke with him face to face, but only heard him and saw him. The only possible times I can think of God speaking to people face to face is when the brother of Jared talked to Him (Book of Ether) and when Moses talked to Him face to face. That's it, just those two people. Moral of the story: God only speaks to people face to face when he needs to. He talked to Joseph because that was the only way to let Joseph know for sure that he needed to help restore the church. He talked to Moses because he needed the ten commandments. He spoke to the brother of Jared only because of his indescribable faith.

Is that why they call themselves special witnesses of Jesus Christ?

Why did Lorenzo Snow testify of seeing Jesus Christ in the Salt Lake temple and talked with Him face to face?

@@travismarin2595 pretty much all of the Prophets have seen or spoken with Jesus Christ face to face, but seeing and speaking with God, Heavenly Father face to face is rare. Joseph Smith's question and the importance of his mission warranted a personal face to face visit from God the Father.

Sounds to me like someone already convinced seeking and finding conformation bias. It may teach you something as you put your own internal meaning on something that you might have experienced because you have been primed to look for it. The human brain does this all the time with more or less anything but if you are not already geared up to conclude that this was what you think it was, it will be put down to say the moment. This might be useful to you but cannot ever hope to convince anyone else. Muslims, other Christian denominations, Hindus and the list goes on an on all have these 'moments' when they knew their god, for them, was true. The common link is they were all primed and waiting for whatever they have been told about. Secular people can also experience this with music, art or just what ever they are into so it's not unique and certainly not special. I've no idea how this can be even concluded to be from a god.

People conclude it's from God from personal experiences, not just because people tell you it's true. For many people in our religion, we only begin to know the truth of the gospel when we begin to doubt it. We pray about it. When I prayed about it their was an incredible feeling of joy I had that couldn't have happened because of the natural brain that let me know the Church of Jesus Christ really is true.

I love hearing from our Church Leaders!!! Faith & gratitude are so amazing. The more you have, the more they expand. I didn't always have the kind of faith I needed but I learned that God does answer prayers, and very specifically at times. Once I realized He really DOES answer, my patience grew. So when answers don't come quickly, I know it's just not the right time for Him to answer.
