I am a new subscriber now and I loved this video. I would love to hear a voiceover while you draw or something like that. I normally watch while I work and it is nice to hear the thought process out loud. That is just my preference, though. All in all, lovely video and artwork!

Thank you so much!! That means a lot. 🥰 I’ll definitely experiment with doing voiceovers through the process next time. Thanks for the suggestion. 🙂

Dear Artscribbler… your videos are Fantastic and educational and I thank you for posting them! I noticed the expressions of both pieces hit me differently in each! The first is very intense and the second is a picture of patience to me. I love them both🎉

Hi Kelli, thank you so much! ❤️ And you’re right, I didn’t even think about how they communicated different emotions. Never thought the quality of the lines we make could be so impactful. Thanks for the insight!

I personally like the second one better, but I completely respect if you go back to how you were doing it out of stylistic choice. In the classes I took (either in highschool or self-taught lessons from youtube), I was taught that it helps to know how to do it accurately first so that you can then choose to exaggerate whatever you like in a way that still makes antatomical sense. An example of that would be any cartoonist or animator. They can easily have a rail thin character with a huge nose, but it's still "correct" and balanced. I am not saying you have to do this or anything! As you said, the only voice that matters in your art is your own and that is 100% true. I am simply sharing my two cents on it. Either way, it made me very happy to see you atleast see what your thoughts were on underdrawing and proportion. It made my day. :3

The more I look at it, the more I’m actually digging the second one. 😂 Maybe a part of me is just too attached to old habits and is refusing to let go. Something I need to figure out. And yes, that’s what I was thinking. I know fundamentals are essential and it would benefit me greatly to communicate with my works better. And once it’s mastered you can pretty much do anything you want! I guess I just have to learn to get out of my own way first. 😅 It’s funny how art is sometimes more a mental game we play with ourselves. Anyway, thank you so much for pointing me in this direction. I would ‘t have explored this further and kept it at the backburner for who knows how long. 😁

@@artscribblerstudio I am the master at getting in my own way, I SOOOOOO get that, lmao!! It's normal and just about every artist I know personally has some sort of habit like that. My own personal hang up is I want to get better at watercolour because I love how it looks and I love how I feel when I work on a painting, but have I actually ... you know... STARTED any paintings despite knowing I have the skills to do this? NOPE. Digital is easier because you can undo and reshape. BUT, I'm not going to get better at it if I don't DO it. Can't get better through osmosis XD. You're very welcome, btw. I'm just glad I actually managed to help someone for once, you know?

Oh you’ve definitely helped me plenty, thank you! 🥳 And yeah, I delude myself with that whole osmosis thing all the time. My brain knows better, but of course, I fall for it all the time. 😝

When you finished the first drawing, I thought, "How can that one get any better? it looks great!" Then you finished the second one and I thought, that one's great too. But didn't think much of the difference until you showed them side-by-side. There is definitely a big difference, but honestly, I don't know which one I like more. They each have their unique style that makes them special. I LOVE the illustrative style of the first. It gives me Edward Gorey vibes, which I love. The second one you made is leaning more toward a realistic style, which is also very beautiful. I'm glad I don't have to actually make a decision, as I would easily hang either one of these on my wall. Excellent job! Can't wait to see more

Hi Bella! Thank you so much!! 🥰 That means a lot. And oh my, thank you for mentioning Edward Gorey, I haven’t heard of him before so just checked his works and wow! They are so striking and right up my alley. 😍 Will have to hunt down his books. 😁

@@artscribblerstudio I actually did a an unboxing of his oracle deck called "The Fantod Pack". It was a lot of fun to go through if you wanted to check it out. It's a quirky and very strange deck. If his art is up your alley, you should definitely see these cards 😁😁

Whereas the first drawing looks a bit mean, the second has a totally different character. I like the second one better because it doesn't look so haunted.
