Since you’re from around here do you know any good developmental clubs I can realistically join? I was thinking one of FC United lower teams, however it’s a half hour away and there are other teams closer.

I’m currently 14 and I play with a team in the NISL and I’m with the 09 squad. I’m currently finishing my 8th grade year and am looking forward to playing hs soccer. I want to be able to make varsity first and then tryout the Chicago Fire Academy. I think that in 2 years I could play varsity and then tryout. I want to play in Europe and play college soccer. I don’t see a lot of people explaining on how Americans get to go play in Europe so I was hoping to find any new information. My dream is to play for the reds and win a champions league title. I know it’s a long shot but am looking for advice.

I need advice , I’m 14 years old currently playing club soccer but I’m not a starter nor am I that good , I started playing at 6-8 and stopped playing because of lack of confidence and picked soccer up again at age 14 I’ve been playing for 6-8 months now and I’m scared I won’t be able to get far because of how late I started , I need advice of what I should do ? I feel bad for you kids today. Back in the 80s and early 90s, most recruiting for college was thru your high school soccer coach. Colleges didn't really have the bandwitdh or ability to see players around the country cause there was no Internet. Lol. I got recruited to St. John's University in NYC right out of high school in Queens, NY. We were #4 in the nation at our highest ranking in 1991. Crazy, huh?

another tip for people trying to get better is get good sleep.

MLS next just like any early ID process is suspect. FYI I’m 40 and my playing days are long gone, so I’m not some disgruntled kid who can’t make it into the league. My advice is to find a club that doesn’t break up, keeps a core of high level players, and has a coach that focuses on development. Or work with someone one on on who develops your skill. Then when it’s time to go to college don’t rely on some showcase to get a coach’s attention. Spend the summer your junior year going to as many university ID camps as possible at universities that interest you. If you don’t get any offers it’s most likely that you can’t play at that level. If you’re good you’re good. Doesn’t matter if you played MLS next or not. Oh and study…98% of the kids in MLS next will not play pro soccer for a living.

I’ve been playing in a rec competitive league and have gotten invited to several mls next academies but then I try out and as soon as they say prices I have to say no because they are too expensive 😭
