Some great truth bombs at the start. It's actually refreshing to see some truth on KZfaq. Consistency and improving my mental strength has benefited me quite a bit this year. I'm also targeting the sub 20 5k. I ran 21.56 in february and hit a plateu, so I started concentrating on a 10k I had coming and thought the 5k will take care of itself. I ran 44.54 and now I've joined a running club and going to do an all out effort at park run next Saturday.

Thank you Kevin, you're right to mention the mental side of things, I progressed once I built up a bit of confidence. If you keep training you will get your sub 20! Best of luck for your all out parkrun effort, I hope you'll get a new 5k PB!

Great advice. Especially doing mobility and strength sessions to help prevent major injuries so that consistency of training is maintained.

Great video, Chloe! Congratulations again on your amazing progress. I agree with everything in here and in this exact order. It's an excellent analysis and a great model for someone else to follow, no matter what goal time they're chasing. Btw I finally followed you on Strava. I don't know why I didn't do that long ago. @@ChloeHamard I've had it happen before although it had been a while. At one point I copy/pasted every comment into a text file for safety before clicking Reply, but unfortunately I got out of that habit. Or maybe I made a mistake somehow. Thanks either way.

@@ChloeHamard Weird, it just happened again! There must be something that I put in both replies that KZfaq doesn't like. Anyway, you are correct that Eddie isn't my real name but it's fine to call me that and avoid (further) confusion.😁I tried to give a hint on where I use my real name and maybe that's what it's flagging. Not a secret but I'm happy to not use it too much online. Anyway thanks for the follow-back on Strava and all the best!

Great video, keep it up! I've been running for years and I never raced a 5k before. I recently did an interval session of 1k×9 at 3:33/km while resting for 3 to 4 minutes in between, so I'd like to know your recommendations about which pace should be a realistic target for my first 5k based on my current training? I'm planning to start at 3:45 pace and work it up towards 3:30 in the last km. For more insight about my training, I'm currently averging almost 300km per month for the last 5 months.
@ChloeHamard
@ChloeHamard Жыл бұрын
You seem to be running a lot! I'm not a qualified coach but if I was in your shoes I'd probably start at the pace you're thinking of to give myself the best chance of a strong finish. I'd also ensure to have fresh legs on race day so I'd slightly drop the volume in the days leading up to it
@akremamara8349

@@ChloeHamard Thank you for the advice, it's pretty helpful. In fact, I do slow down because I did some heavy weeks with more than a 120km then I let my body recover by reducing my weekly mileage to 60km per week. I started gradually by doing 200km in January and I kept increasing my monthly mileage based on how I felt, so I peaked between March and April by doing 434km in 29 days. I've been doing more speed and tempo sessions for the last 5 weeks to prepare my legs for a 5k.

My 5k PB last year is 20:20, and I blame the parkrun coz it isn't flat. Now I can run 8*1K repeats at 3:55 for my intervals, I think I am really for sub 20. But I will train for 2-3 more weeks just to be sure before I try 5k on a track. On a windless, cool day preferably.
