1) Indexing - Go through all the resources and just develop a basic understanding 2) Retaining - Go deeper and try to retain as much as possible, use spaced revision to revise and get a good hold 3) Referencing - Refer to the curated sources, since you would have already gone through it a lot of times you would pick up really fast

I think the idea of "indexing" the information first NEEDS to be utilized more in school/universities! It wasn't until after I graduated that I realized an initial overview of the material can really help you make sense of what you're learning and piece it together in the context of the big picture.
@EngineeringwithUtsav3 жыл бұрын
I'll be honest, the entire university education system needs a major overhaul. I love that they teach the foundational knowledge well, but something that costs your years of loan payments, should teach productivity, strategies, and even personal finance like credit scores, home mortgage, etc. No one prepares you for any of that.

That's a super important topic for me lately. I was trying to standardize the process of learning by myself, so this video is extremely helpful. Just like you mentioned, in tech world, there's too much languages, libraries, frameworks and all the buzzwords that come along with them, so if you don't have any standards set upfront, then it's easy to drown in all that or let it significantly slow you down. I am glad that you touched on the topic of getting better at other things, not just software engineering. I often times catch myself up on the thinking, that if I want to be better at engineering, I need to spend more and more time on it. And I truly love it, but then it blows out of proportions and I get burn out. Maybe you could do some other video about relevancy of side activities and work-life balance (especially when your work is your hobby at the same time ;p)? Best regards!

TLDW: Indexing Phase: Learn about topics associated with what you're learning. This phase does not include any actual doing or practice. Your goal is to gather data. For example, if you're trying to build a website and follow a tutorial. Only takes notes and do not follow along. You'll know which topics to learn after watching. All the times you're like what the heck. Retention Phase: Core idea is to use spaced repetition. If you're not repeating, you're not retaining Reference Phase: You've curated this information in the previous steps. Hopefully you put it into a tooling system where you're able to quickly reference it when you need it.

Application based learning has a more rogorous process once I complete the three phases that you mentioned.
