A Ride in the Country

This video follows my journey from buying my first motorcycle to learning how to ride off road. I purchased my Honda CRF250L used from a private individual. I obtained a learner's permit and began learning how to ride. I took the Motorcycle Safety Course and got my license. I rode on back country roads learning to ride. I met a guy who helped me learn the basics of off road riding.

Great video Cliff! You did great for your first time out, especially for learning to ride in general this year. Glad I could help you get your first off-road experience under your belt. We will have to ride again in the spring when it’s a mud skating rink! 😄.

I remember that 1st day out on my new CRF 250L. Had the Rally version. Same old thing. Spent most of the day in 1st gear. But had a blast. Rode every weekend all that summer. Had 3 tip overs that season but no major damage or injury and learned to ride! Have fun man and ride safe!

54 years young and you got your first bike! I think that’s really cool. I rode dirt bikes from the time I was about 8 or 9, all the way up thru high school. The I took about 30 years off. I’ll be 52 this year, and I just got back into riding about 8 months ago. I’m loving it, but I’m taking it real slow. I bought a slightly used CRF250L and I really like the bike. It’s super fun and easy to ride. I think you’re doing great and I look forward to more videos.

Well done Cliff! You had a great & patient instructor for your first time off-road. Much better than I would have ever been. You did it the right way, but most important, you had fun. People just don't understand how therapeutic a ride in the woods can be. You now understand that feeling. Keep it up, and enjoy the ride.

Thanks for sharing! Not sure how I found this but it’s awesome. My first ride on my tw200 didn’t go as smooth, I learned the importance of good riding boots. Once I get those I’ll be back on the trail. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your videos and checking out that riding area. I was riding in Wayne National forest outside Nelsonville.

That was really kind of Chris and his mate to show you the ropes, awesome. That video made me go a bit emotional, not sure why, maybe I have similarities, i have always wanted to be able to ride off road, have had my CRF300 rally for 2 or 3 months now, a bit scared too but I'm hoping to do a course at some point this year, I don't think we are as blessed for trail riding in the UK. We'll done for smashing it, I definately would have dropped it on a couple of parts there.

The KZfaq algorithm strikes again lol. That was a great video to watch, nice to see somebody experience that for the first time. I'm also very glad you started on an appropriate bike - so many new riders think they need a big monster for this stuff - lighter and smaller is so much easier. You could be happy on that 250 for the rest of your life.

I’ve been wanting to do the SOAL too. I can’t figure out how to do the Navigation. I think I need to pay for the paid version of GAIA maps or something like that. I’ve gone to the adventure rider website and downloaded the GPX file (available here www.advrider.com/f/threads/ive-got-s-o-a-l.1402955/?mibextid=Zxz2cZ) but I can’t figure out how to use it without paying.
