Everyone who has just started to suffer from tinnitus or who feels anxiety/depression because of it, trust me, it will get better. Once you get past the first hump and figure out a way to accept it, you start to feel a lot better and think it as a part of you. It might seem impossible at first, but it will get easier. Tinnitus is not the end of the world although it may feel like it in the beginning! And if you feel super overwhelmed by it, don't be afraid of therapy and other professional help. Stay positive, it feels great and makes you so much stronger when you conquer your tinnitus!

I have tinnitus. The first week I noticed it was absolute hell until I found this video. She is so right- please do not read online forums!! Now, I can technically still hear a sound if I try to listen, but for 99% of my day I don’t hear it anymore and when I do, it’s not debilitating at all. It used to terrify me, but now it’s just normal and I feel completely fine. You have no idea how much this video helped me!!

when i first had it, i felt so alone and isolated. i mean, it’s not that common and i thought i was going crazy. but eventually, i just accepted it as a part of me. i tell myself that it’s just sound, and it’s not killing me. now it’s just background noise. it spikes louder sometimes, but now i am not completely terrified of it. also- reading people’s comments who have tinnitus helped me too, it made me feel less alone :) i pray everyone struggling with t finds a way to cope with it.

I’ve just finished cancer treatment and now started with tinnitus. Knowing I’ve started overcoming being told I have cancer and the effects of treatment means part of me knows I will adjust and part of me can’t believe it. It’s the feeling of inescapability that creates panic. With my cancer, I tried to approach it with a bit of intrigue and asked my body what it needs to get better. I believe being in conflict with your body can cause psychological, physiological and emotional problems. Both the cancer and tinnitus make me feel breathless so I know I need to breath differently. I’m two months into tinnitus. This video has been the very best thing I’ve watched. Thankyou so much Isobel 💝

No matter what the reason for the tinnitus is, you can all have a full recovery. All you have to know is that you have to reconnect with your body, take care of it and above all relax and limit stress. I found Julian Cowan Hill and Liam stop tinnitus on you tube and they saved my life. I do: Meditation + Tai Chi + Cold shower + limited sugar and salt + eat well (it means eat meat and everything my body needs) + limited alcool + no coffee and tea + intermittent fasting + sleep well I can say that live with tinnitus was horrible, I got it because of a loud music trauma, I was in anxiety attack everyday, fear about this sound in my ears. Now i feel so good, i don't care about it because it decreases ( my tinnitus was around 7-8 before and now it's just 2-3), Sometimes i can hear the silence for like 15 minutes and sometimes more. I know now that my tinnitus will go away for ever really soon. I will continu this process until i can live in the total silence. Please guys, we have one life, live is beautiful, stop to think negatively and act. I hope you will act and succeed like me !

@@laurajoylustig4271 Hey ! Yeah, it was really low and I was well with it so I decided to live without all this things I did before to see what happens ! My tinnitus was at 2-3 and life was great, it decreased a bit more because I was better in my mind I think, I had more and more moment of silence, more difficult to hear my tinnitus, sometimes it goes at 4 during 2 days and it decreased more after it at 1-2 ! I’m in France so it’s lockdown now.. I have time to take care of myself so I decided to make things like I did before: meditate before sleeping, more sports, try to be positive, no coffee (coffee is the baddest things for tinnitus so I stopped it since the beginning), eat well ! I will try to make fast during 3 days several times during this period because I think it’s the last step to have total silence ! I will keep you inform about it if you want 😉 Never forget that tinnitus is not for life everybody !

@@roland20002000 That's GREAT! From my YEARS of researching tinnitus I think there might be a fair chance that it will lower even more!!! If not, and the level goes back to the debilitating level, (that's where mine stays) I saw a hearing aid specialist who was able to use high frequency sounds like white noise and make me a hearing aid with those sounds. While it surely doesn't take it away it blends in the other sounds so it's not so piercing and I can go about my day. 30 years working under kitchen vents did it to me. I almost always have a low level *screeeeeeeeee* in my right ear (even as I write this). It gets louder when I try to listen to loud music or movies. When it's bad it strobes back and forth between both ears and it becomes hard to concentrate. White noise ambience & relaxation probably helps the most.

I was lucky, if you can call it lucky to develop tinnitus, because it happened when I was about 10 years old after a bout of measles. At the time it was horrible, but I was able to adapt quite quickly, because of my age probably. Nearly 40 years on I am still living with my constant pitch. I have found that when I have other sounds in the background I can easily focus on those sounds that the high pitch falls away to nothing. At night when it is much more quiet my hight pitch takes on a much higher volume. However, I have accepted it, and as has been said in the video, this is the key. I live with tinnitus and don't suffer from it. To be honest, I am now at a point where if there was a cure I personally wouldn't take it because for me, at my age now, I would struggle to come to terms with silence now.

Thank you so much, your calm, reasonable approach has been so helpful. The most meaningful thing you said was, if your tinnitus could be removed, you’re indifferent about it. Just knowing you’ve achieved that level of acceptance gives me so much hope. I’ve had tinnitus for about a month and was suicidal the first 2 weeks. It does ease up volume wise every few days, which helped me hang on. My husband has been a wonderful support; it’s a problem that can’t be seen, like a sprained ankle but is much more distressing.

@@antonioramirez6850 thank you so much, I really appreciate you saying that. It’s been about 4 months now that I’ve tinnitus. It started a few hours after I got a Prolia shot to help increase bone density. The shot is supposed to wear off by December, I’ve kind of had hope that maybe the tinnitus might stop then, but now I’m more skeptical. It goes in a cycle for me, 2 bad days then it begins to lightens up and actually stops for a day or 2, then the cycle starts over. Just knowing I’ll have a few days of peace ahead, when it’s bad, helps me. I’ve gotten so I can ignore it most of the time except when it gets really loud, then I feel like I have a head full of crickets, lol. Thanx Isobel, very helpful advice. Developed tinnitus in 2012, turned my whole life upside down. But as I slowly learned to accept it, respect it and understand it, the negative vibe about it disappeared and now I don't perceive it as a threat anymore. It's just there and I'm o.k. with that. Sometimes it's really loud, sometimes I'm hardly aware of it. Whatever the volume, I don't feel intimidated by it anymore. It has become a fundamental part of me, but it took me a long time to finally get to that point. I suppose what it basically comes down to is the following question that you have to ask yourself: Do I choose to have a good life with tinnitus, or a bad life with tinnitus ? Since the tinnitus is here to stay anyway, I have decided to choose for the first option, a good life with tinnitus. It's possible. With a positive attitude the tinnitus will change from a heavy burden to a minor discomfort.

I have had pulsatile tinnitus CONSTANTLY for nearly 5 months. My physician ordered MRI and MRA and found nothing. The volume ranges from low to very loud. In the beginning, it was terrifying that it NEVER stopped and I might have it forever. At around the three month mark, I found myself acknowledging the tinnitus when it was moderate to loud and moving on, keeping busy, taking my dog on an extra walk. Many people find music drowns it out, but for me, just thinking about tinnitus as something that is with me, rather than something that is fighting me, made all the difference. Thank you for this incredible video. It radiates hope. I am 36, I've had tinnitus for 20 years after a friend popped a balloon next to my ear. I have had multiple ups and downs along the way. Moments of despair and fear for the future. But I know that it can absolutely be lived with, as Isobel says it takes time and an adjustment of emotion towards it. I am currently going through an extended spike of ringing which has thrust me back into the retraining stages. Of which I think stress and anxiety I think is playing a part. And it's forcing me to look deeper into tinnitus than I have in the past. I wish I came across this video years ago. I know I've achieved peace before, which helps to know it's achievable again. Thanks again Isobel.

Hi Isobel.....can I just say that you have produced 30 minutes of the most sensible level-headed advice on Tinnitus that I have ever heard. A brilliant job, well done and THANK YOU. I've had tinnitus for years now ..with ups and downs.... but most of the time it has habituated into the background. The two bits of your advice I would really recommend to anyone else who has it are 1 - avoid chat rooms. They are poisonous in spreading despair or quack solutions and 2. Your emotions are key to this. While we "fight" tinnitus it will always win. Its terribly difficult, but accepting it is the best way for us to get on top of it. Easier to say than do....as I guess we all know, but it is true all the same. But thanks again. I am so glad I found this video.

I saw your videos on Take On Tinnitus and then you popped up on my KZfaq. Everything you said resonates with me strongly and I love your attitude, the sense of peace and contentment you exude, your logical way of thinking and determination to educate yourself about the condition. I have followed your advice and 5 weeks in I already feel more at peace with my tinnitus. The part I loved most was when you talked about how tinnitus gave you more compassion. This resonates so deeply with me. This has been a period of enforced wellness for me and one where I feel I have developed a far deeper compassion for myself and others. Absolutely beautiful!❤ “The CURE is YOU” I love that! And that really is the cure honestly taking the action yourself to be patient, accept, and compassion as she says in the video. I got tinnitus about a year and a half ago in February. I was the exact same way the first couple of months, i couldnt sleep at all, and i would wake up absolutely terrified. It wasnt until i decided “im not going to live scared like this anymore” that my life changed. From that moment on I decided to work on myself, my mind, body, and spirit most of all. I can absolutely say i am the happiest i have ever been! If you were to tell me this a year and a half ago that i would be in these state of emotions now, i would laugh in your face and would not believe it even for a second. But im telling you now as a witness, it gets better! It gets better than better! I literally have DAYS where i legitimately forget about it completely. I definitely took time to work on myself, day after day after day, but all you need to do is just start and thats it! Trust me when i tell you, you are going to enjoy your life being your wildest dreams! Do not give up! You are perfectly on the perfect path for living the life youre meant to work! Dont lose hope! And stay strong! ❤ If you ever need anything, comment back on here and i am more than absolutely willing to help out! Have a great day :) ❤️❤️❤️

I too am a musician and have had tinnitus for 35 years. it has worsened in recent years and the slightest noise increases its intensity quite quickly can only listen to music at a low level, which is disappointing. I have to wear earplugs for any rehearsal, which helps. The tiny hairs in the inner ears of birds and reptiles can heal and regrow when damaged, unlike us. Nature is so cruel to inflict such an evil condition upon millions of good people. As Richard Dawkins said, "nature treats us with blind, pitiless indifference". Tinnitus is certainly proof of that.

people may think of it as nothing but its like any other kind of ongoing illness. its devastating to hear that it may never go away and you will have this condition for the rest of your life but you eventually come to terms after the mourning of your previously perfect hearing. take it easy and give yourself time. you will enjoy your life just as you used to in due time. its was also crazy for me to realise just how many people have tinnitus. i never knew a thing about it before i got it.

I'm still rather new to tinnitus and I certainly don't have it all figured out, and I still sometimes sink into hopelessness. The one idea that helped me most was that nobody will take away that horrible tone in my head, and the only thing I can do is to habituate my brain to it so that it gets bored of it ASAP. Of course I notice it all the time, but when I do, I say to myself "Yeah, habituation therapy is happening right now!" and that lowers my anxiety. Sometimes I pretend that I'm playing a custom audiologist-prescribed therapeutic tone in order to accelerate my habituation, and then I remind myself: "as far as therapies go, this isn't nice, but it's definitely bearable." But of course, the tone I'm pretending to play is just my tinnitus itself. Rehearsing thought patterns like that has taken me from sheer panic down to something like ordinary disappointment and sadness, with intermittent episodes of despair. Progress!

Isobel is spot on here. As a musician myself (guitar, keys, stage performer and session player) for close to 50 years now I have quite a bit of experience with Tinnitus which started for me around 1993. This past year I also developed Hyperacusis after cleaning the wax out of my ears with a drug store syringe bulb and softening solution kit, and it also ramped up the Tinnitus volume quite a bit after that ear cleaning. About 6 months after that ear cleaning the wax had re-accumulated to the point that the hyperacusis was barely a problem as the wax acts as a kind of natural ear plug. So if your a musician with both Tinnitus and Hyperacusis I'd recommed NOT to try and clean out that ear wax even if your mixes in the studio are starting to loose high end .. believe me much better to deal with frequency loss in your studio monitors than to not be able to tolerate clanging dishes in the sink, cupboards closing, or even your own voice at times 😳 Second tip .. if your a keyboard player who deals with synths alot like me be VERY careful when auditioning new patches, effects, or other outboard gear. Todays modern synths are poorly programmed for the most part and the volume and frequency of the factory patches can vary in extremes which can wreak havoc with your ears! Get some musicians ear plugs like Isobel mentions .. the good ones that are 40.00-50.00 dollars or more on Amazon, and use them when auditioning patches. The biggest takeaway for me from this video is learn to try and focus on stuff other than the T and it will fade in time or not become so important. Thanks Isobel 👍🎹🎸

Interesting comment as my GP has referred me for wax cleaning and as a musician I'm concerned about what you say. Apparently the microsuction method is safest? Are you sure your problem wasn't because of the home kit you bought?!

Thank you so much for this video. I found it to be very comforting and reassuring. I've had this affliction for 26 years, and have gone through episodes that made me want to die. I have a loud low-frequency hum in my head that came on suddenly in 1996. No cause was ever found despite every medical test you can imagine. My hearing is normal, and I don't have hyperacus. But the depression and anxiety that accompanies this noise is unbearable. Ironically, it's been known to go away completely for periods of up to three years. I had a major relapse last week and am trying my best to get through it. Right now I feel as if it I'm at the bottom of a deep, dark well. I just have to be hopeful that it's temporary and will eventually pass.

Thank you so much for the lovely comments and support. I’d like to give an update after three years. My tinnitus is gone now and I have been living peacefully. It was found out that my tinnitus started due to my use of Minoxidil, the hair growth agent. It was a bad side effect. Tinnitus was there for a few months even after stopping the use of Minoxidil. But then it eventually went away. This video really helped me to get through that difficult time and thanks so much for all of your kind support! ❤️

I have Tinnitus and wish I could have 10 minuets of silence just to meditate and feel relief. So in order to cope when I meditate i think of it as the "Loud Silence". I have the sound of a Huey Helicopter transmission stuck in my head from when I was a crew chief in the Army. I'm sorry to hear someone as beautiful as you and has made a carrier in music has to deal with the torture of tinnitus. Good luck to you and God bless. Thank you for your input and Video.

Let me share this with you Ketoconazole ( there are many brands that are mild) it greatly helped me. 3 classes of Bacteria,Virus and fungi. Conazole is for treating fungus infection. Fungi is different from the other 2 in the sense that it can leave in the Host for several several years causing discomfort until treated though may not cause outright damage or death but can make life miseriable Try if u can get the drug but don't exceed 1 daily for 3 days or 2daily for 2 days.. tablets because you need know how your body will react to it. Don't rush the treatment May be after 3wks you can try a 2nd treatment. dose 1daily for 2 to 3 days As the day goes bye you should notice the sound has greatly reduced to quiet sound or at times zero tinnitus sound If you suffer stomach ulcer follow the above instr and eat well before taking or dissolve tablet in a pastry food Give it a trial 3 to 4 tablets Pls am not a Dr . Just my personal experience Pls do let me know the result

Dear Isobel. Thank you for this video. I have develoled Tinnitus since 3 months and really struggle to cope, even though mine is not even that loud. During the day I often don't hear it but it spikes at moments and especially in quiet rooms and when I go to sleep it bothers me. I have a lot of fear for it and it really stresses me out. Your video calmed me down when I was stressing and it really gives me hope that I can learn to cope with it too. Thank you!

I'm 15. I've had tinnitus for 6 months and even though I hardly hear it during the day, it really keeps my up during the nights and sometimes I panic when it suddenly gets louder or when I can hear and feel my heart beating in my ear, but it makes me feel at ease, that after reading these comments, that there are other people who are going through this too and understand what it's like...😅

Stay strong ❤ Yes you are not alone in this ❤Being a young adult with tinnitus is definitely difficult but i feel it shows us to be more compassionate and loving at such a young age and is ultimately what we need to live a good life :) What helped me to sleep at night and not panic was making the decision to work on my body, mind, and spirit. People like Eckhart Tolle, Wayne Dyer, Tony Robbins, David Goggins, and Michael Singer have definitely helped me with all that. I love to listen to a Michael Singer podcast as im trying to fall asleep and he definitely teaches me a lot about “worrying”, which definitely plays a big part in tinnitus. I can honestly say i am literally the happiest i have ever been even before the tinnitus! And trust me i know it may be hard to believe in the beginning but trust me when i tell you, as a witness, it gets soooooo much better! There are legitimately days where i do not even notice it AT ALL. And you can too!! All i needed to do was just start working on myself. Stay strong and if you ever need anything, i am here! Hope you are doing well :) Have a great day :) ❤❤❤

I've had tinnitus in my right ear since I was 10 years old, then when I was 38 I went to an allergist who gave me a steroid injection and that made both ears ring. I'm coming up on 54 years of constant ringing this summer. Eventually you learn to ignore it for the most part. The only problem I have is when somebody speaks to me while I'm in "ignore mode" and I have to start paying attention to my hearing again ...and ask them to repeat themselves. Forget about understanding people in a noisy restaurant unless you learn to read lips.

Isobel, this is so inspirational! I have been living with Tinnitus for 30 years or so, and have developed my own coping strategies, that are absolutely in line with what you have described in this video. I just wish you had this level of advice 30 years ago! (Actually that's not true, I wouldn't wish Tinnitus on anyone.) I am now at the stage that when waves of tinnnitus come over me, I accept them and pass them on. Your messages are so accurate and real, and I hope they are heard and understood by anyone and everyone who has this problem. Again, your message is truly inspirational. Thank you!

Inspirational. I had tinnitus from 15 until 23 and it disappeared. Came back twice for a month in each case in November 2015 and then March 2016. Had a breakdown in the May and have had tinintus ever since. Doing tinnitus retraining therapy for two years now and I was getting places. However, I had to learn to live all over again as just doing anything which would have been second nature was frightening. Even moving. So coping with living and screaming tinnitus has been very difficult. However, I am sure it will go again and my life will be good again. I started going out on the bus and going shopping or for coffee and then meeting friends. I literally had to have someone with me for the last three years. I cannot stay in by myself but I can go out. Confidence is building slowly. I have had no support except for my son and partner and a lot of the time as you say, there is the loneliness of it. Things have been very harrowing personally for a few weeks now and I feel as if I have gone backwards a great deal. However, I know I will get better in time again and fight on beyond that. Your film reminds me of the things I did in the beginning and renews my hope

I am a senior but also a fingerstyle guitarist. I only say that because I know I am addicted to composing. I feel I am causing my tinnitus to be worse by playing and loving getting fun sounds from the acoustic guitar. So sometimes I feel like I should quit playing to keep from making the very, very high pitched air compressor sound from getting worse! Many times during the day I don’t really concentrate on it. So the sound seems to almost go away. But especially after waking up it effects me alot. Now at this moment I have this sound machine going as I am typing! It is great to hear you talk about it in such a mature way! As you say you seem to have gotten control of it! I know I have not got to that point but like the fact that your not into the chat room pity parties. Just listening to you I sure can tell your the real deal! I listened to your complete video and am very, very impressed with your links! I sent your email from youtube to myself and am going to make a folder with the word “Tinnitus” on it! Thank your for a really great video! A thumbs up from me big-time . Now i’m off to hear your song! Thanks again!!!

I'm 60 years old and have been suffering from tinnitus over 3 years now, I have two sounds, a very high frequency whistle that I can hear only at night in complete silence, but it does not cause me any stress. the second is a 59 Hertz humming sound that is quite stressful, it's the equivalent stress of hearing a truck motor on outside your window. I've been extremely lucky to have found a solution to my problem that allows me to finally sleep 6 to 7 hours a night. I discovered after weeks of testing different solutions, that playing a sinusoidal sound between the frequencies of 190Hz to 270Hz, my internal sound switches completely off, both my ears must hear the sound, it can even be at minimal volume.
