Decided to upload this KZfaq video today since I had customer quilt to load on the longarm. Did this video as a request of a couple of my subscribers. In no way intended as a teaching video and my Tin Lizzie Longarm is an old longarm without any of the bells and whistles that come along with others. No channel locks, computer, etc. and an old wooden frame. So, this is the method that works best for myself and my type of Longarm.
Longarm is approximately 12-15 years old

I'm glad I found your channel! I purchased an old Tin Lizzie from an estate sale and have never used a long arm. The major tip I learned from this video was the tension of the quilt. I will be watching more of your videos and hopefully will get over the fear of the machine to actually quilt a real quilt, not practice.

Hello Robin and welcome. I hope you come to love your Tin Lizzie. Just give her lots of love and hold her hands (handles) gently. Dance with her and she will follow your lead! Have fun and Happy Stitching!

@@JeanKeptInStitches I will give your advise a try. I think that being afraid of the longarm instead of allowing myself to relax and have fun has been my biggest problem. I will try putting music on and "dance" with the machine along with loosening up the quilt and see what happens! I'm also going to dig out my magnetic bowl for pins! I didn't know it would work through the fabric layers. Thanks again.

@Robinbrown4674…I have a 9 year old Tin Lizzie and Grace Majestic frame. I’ve had it 9 years and it still makes me nervous to use it. I don’t like to quilt. I love to make the quilt tops. I have had a large quilt on that frame for over a year. lol. I did finally quilt it, last week. I mostly use the meander, because it’s easy. I still mess up a bit. I think a really pretty quilt doesn’t need fancy quilting, that you have to move around under light to see anyway. Now, if you doing a fancy quilt, that has a lot of negative space, yes. The quilts look great with just the meander or swirls. Don’t make yourself crazy by trying to do a bunch of fancy quilting. This is just my opinion. Good luck with your new to you quilter.

@Robinbrown4674…One more thing. In case you didn’t know. The older frames don’t have an Idler bar. That keeps the quilt sandwich from laying on the bed of the machine. It’s the bar that’s under the take up bar. So you need to adjust the height of the take up bar every time you roll up the quilt after quilting. My husband is modifying my frame to use the batting bar, which I never use, as the Idler bar. That is when I had the most trouble.

Hello my name is Sabrina from Oklahoma I was wondering if red snappers is worth using over the pain loading which one is better and why

Hello Sabrina and thank you for your question. I myself have never had or used red snappers so I can't give you much information one way or another. I did however find a Q&A forum with some information about them that you may find useful... www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1/want-opinions-red-snappers-your-long-arm-t276278-post7482575.html

So what do you do with the front top bar? Seems like it is just in the way.

Hello Susanne and thank you for your question. I float my tops instead of using the bar. This bar would be used for the bottom edge of the quilt top to be attached to.

I always get ditsy over which way to roll the quilt. So, it's under the back one and over the top on the front one. I've loaded a few quilts but always have to look at the book to figure it out. I'm sure for some people it's common sense....not for me.
@JeanKeptInStitches

Hi Christi, I too in the beginning had to keep looking at the book to remind myself which way to roll the quilt on the rollers so that is a pretty common learning curve. Thank you and I hope you enjoyed the video. 🙂
