Fertilisers are increasing in price such an example is at Bunnings Shirley No17 has increased from $33 a bag to $53 per bag due to shortages due to a large quality coming out of Russia.

It actually happened before Russia. Prices have been going up for a while unfortunately 😓 Urea prices from china have gone through the roof
@chomes8048

Kikuyu can go down to a low pH without issue. Broad leaf weeds, clover and many other weeds cannot. So some sulphate of ammonia in your fertiliser could help you out without having to spray.

In your video you use 'Wet-Out' as a wetter to help the poison stick to the leaf. Can you recommend anything bunnings sells that can be used as a substitute? There are a lot of 'soil wetters' at bunnings, but I'm thinking these are not the same thing. I don't see any 'water-wetters' at bunnings at all. Any recommendation what to use as a substitute - is dishwashing liquid really a good enough alternative?

Sorry I need to correct you, Paspalum doesn’t die off every year. Paspalum Grass stays in soil as a plant and grows thicker with tough roots, the spiking of seeds, there’s a product in Bunnings the targets the Paspalum and other selected weeds, works well, using Roundup is the last resort.
@LawnTips
@LawnTips 2 жыл бұрын
Depends on where you live. Here in Orange is dies off. Warmer climates it can stick around you are correct. Can’t buy it at Bunnings anymore either sorry mate. It had DSMA in it and that’s a very dangerous chemical for the home lawn.

@@rickthelian2215 yeah that’s what has DSMA in it. It’s a S7 chemical and we used to use the juiced up version on the golf course. Still would take 3-4 applications to knock it and sometimes it will still come back. Yellows couch and kikuyu like crazy as well.
@SRM_NZ
@SRM_NZ 2 жыл бұрын
Being (what you call DSMA) in NZ it was MSMA and it's half soil life was reported as 40 years and so on, so it could take a hundred or so years to thoroughly get out of the soil, and it is a proven carcinogen...It was removed from the market back in 2010 here. It is currently against the law to have it. I carry a Japanese Hori Hori weeding knife with me and dig it out when mowing......depending on how many plants you have it can take a couple of years to get under control this way. Leave 1 bit of root and you will have a new plant the following year. This is why I use a Hori Hori, they are a strong, very sharp blade that can get the biggest of plants out with a minimum hole.

Looks amazing! Wish mine looked as good. I let my Kikuyu grow really long quite a few times over summer (25cm) and each time I mowed it short. it's super stressed and thin. I'm wondering what my options are? 1. Fertilizer now and water while there's still warm days? 2. Overseed now with Kikuyu & rye blend to get rye coverage over winter and have some sort of thick lawn?

Hey mate, question regarding lawn height for the Kikuyu, noticed in the vid you didn’t do a mow today, it looked a little long, we have had so much rain and no sun in VIC for the past month, I’ve only mowed twice, she hasn’t grown much but I feel a cut might help open up the carpet to help dry out, or do you recommend keeping it a little longer during winter? My cut is about 30mm all year round, waiting till spring to get it down to 20

Clovers are nitrogen fixing plants. Yes they are a weed and no they are not the most beautiful plants in the world but weeds are beneficial in nature. Clovers release nitrogen into your soil which helps not only your plants thrive but all the little critters in your lawn. Instead of spray chemicals every where why not just let them be.
