Traction alopecia had me crying like crazy last year. Went to the dermatologist she wanted to charge me $600 for PRP treatments, said I needed 18. Researched like crazy, started dermarollimg my edges every other day, using blue magic grease in my hair again like when I was a little girl, sulfur 8 and Virgin hair fertilizer, taking cod liver oil capsules and using a headband underneath my wigs to stop the rubbing against the scalp. Also no heat whatsoever I air dry my hair when I wash and do silicone mix deep treatment. It's been 4 months and the edges the dermatologist told me would never come back because the follicles are dead...are springing back like crazy. Also forgot to add..I always drank alot of water, put I started drinking even more water every day. U have to moisturize inside and outside. And i also switched to iodized table salt at home.

Ladies, please keep in mind that as you age, hair follicles get smaller, and sebum production declines. Also, if you are wearing wigs for protective styling, the comb inserts can also cause damage and thinning to your edges. The PRO is they can be removed beforehand. 💆🏽‍♀️

Wigs are a good protective style but I find that most women neglect the hair underneath. They glue it to their edges then they use combs in the back which is breaking the hair. I no longer use adhesives for my wigs nor do I use combs & I moisturize & seal daily

It depends a lot in how you put the braids in. I for one don’t braid right, do a really good protein treatment/ deep conditioner before I put them in and leave my edges out. I also make sure I spray and butter my hair and scalp every three days. Green beauty actually has a video on how to properly take care of your hair in braids
@teresai1877
@teresai1877 3 жыл бұрын
It depends on how tight they are, how clean the style is kept, and how long they are kept. If they are too tight, then they are less protective. Also, I wouldn't keep braids in more than a month. (When my hair isn't in braids, I do a wash once a week though.)

I've had box braids 3 times in life. 2 out of 3 of those times I've lost my edges. Once was regular box and once was with knotless. Both times the braids were butt length. I guess that length is too heavy for me

Nope! I stopped with box braids a year ago and went nearly a year without marley twists (I wore them for 2 weeks a few months ago and regretted it). My hair has grown more in the past year than it has in the past 5+ years and my new growth is strong and thick. No more box braids for me, I'll stick to my headband wigs.

I've learnt to leave my hair alone. I wear it in twists. Scooping and spreading didn't work for me, my edges (frontal) really thinned. I also don't like remoisturizing my 4c hair because it 'fuzzes' up and forms single strand knots even when in twists...Still learning and unlearning but for now, my hair prefers being handled after washing plus the herbal hot oil treatment is beneficial (thanks for that) - my hair loses less moisture. Working with weekly washes + herbal oil treatments at the moment

Aging is inevitable. For most people, your hair will thin as you age. Adding light exercise, good loving sex, lean protein, healthy carbs, lots of vegetables and fruit, and healthy fats can help maintain fullness of your hair after 35. Straightening your hair a little can help air get to your scalp better, especially if you have dense 4C hair

My edges started growing back when I started doing my own braids(not going to the salon), and always doing knotless braids instead of the normal box braids, and putting my braids up in a lose bun.... The "hair professionals" , especially here in Africa, always braid your hair using small portions of your real hair and making them tight... My edges before I started doing my hair, were in the critical stage because of it

But its not because I use braids or anything, years ago when I used to process my hair a hair dresser left the chemical too long in my hair, that was long before I knew how to take care of my hair that is what motivated me to go back natural and i'm glad i did. It appears this is the only way to have healthy hair. My issue was not braids or wigs etc...it was the relaxer after many many years. After 9 months of transitioning, I am now fully natural....thank you Jesus...it took my hair thinning in the crown to wake up & know my days using any chemical at all was over if I wanted to save my strands. Finding natural styles with low maintenance until wash day is working for me. It takes time upfront but last until your next wash day. My style has been finger coiling.

Yep, I recently switched to no tension braiding/extensions. I love braiding using yarn, but that's a no no for me. Also, I soak the extensions in vinegar to get the crap that they use to preserve the extensions off. No tension braiding, taking supplements, and moisturizing my scalp and hair is what is working for me.

I have been doing onion juice mix with ginger root treatment on my hair because I watched you videos. I officially started late 2018. I was not consistent with it until around mid/late 2019 July-September-ish. Since I have remained consistent and it works! Thank you 🙌🏾 I am waiting on that updated video and herb 🌿 video. I’m sure it will be informative.

This is so timely I have been wondering why my hair on the front grows slower, then I realised it had nothing to do with growth but rather retention, I am retaining less hair. My culprits are buns and puff and constant gelling and brushing.

I just finished twisting my hair just before you uploaded this video. This how (sectioning off from the rest of my hair and keeping moisturised) I grew my nape back about 10 years ago and yesterday after washing the real protein treatment and herbal oil out I decided that I will do the same with the front of my hairline.

I have locs, not braids, but I remember that with braids, I also needed to redo my edges often to reduce breakage, so I also retighten my edges of my locs before they get too heavy. I think that's helping me to keep them, like you said.

I think separating your edges, laying them on your forehead like baby hair instead of combing & brushing them with the rest of our hair might cause damage. When you work your line hair with the rest of your hair they'll grow together.

Separating edges can breaks the edges off. Comb it with the rest of the hair. The making baby hair isn't cutting it. Blend your edges with the rest of the hair. I hadn't heard of a major hair line issue with the women I know personally until the start separating their edges away from the other hair. Before, their edges length was no different from the crown of their hair. That's my opinion on some of the edge issues.

That makes so much sense. We need to connect the hair edges with the rest of our hair so it will blend in.
