I noticed that I tend to study by seasons. I've been tracking myself since 2018 and realized that I get burned out when combining jobs, exercise, volunteering and self-learning. I think it's OK if you need to take that time off, as he said in the video: "it's better achieving 80% than achieving nothing".

In my personal experience another thing which help me a lot was working on my character. Being a self learner it's hard and it's easy to caught into impostor syndrome. Knowing how to defeat ego and anxiety becomes the key to be a disciplined person and stick with a path. Don't give up, every second that we spend coding anything even if it seems useless is not a waste but an action which has a strong effect in the universe

This video just came at a perfect time! I've started taking online courses on Coursera recently and I wanted to start with Google's IT Support certificate first to teach me about the basics, and knowing about basics of IT helps immensely to understand all the advanced topics, so it was a great decision. I'm about to complete it now and I've also taken some courses on Cloud computing, cybersecurity etc. Now I'm planning to dive into Python so that I can learn it properly and add some projects to my resume. Great to know that there are people like me making use of this opportunity. It's very self motivating!

@waterflowzz
@waterflowzz Жыл бұрын
@@kennethkath6527 i would argue that it might be more “syntax friendly” but it’s also a more loosely typed language which helps with “syntax friendliness”. I think this causes more problems with beginners not truly understanding what they are wanting to do even if the syntax is “right”. It’s hard to explain what I’m trying to say, hopefully you understand. I would say java is a better language to start off with because it also has all the concepts of programming built into it. It also has good documentations and a rich set of libraries that no other language seems to come close to.

A well known anecdote where I'm from is "don't let university crash your self-learning path". In cs of all places this is even more relevant. Computer Science curriculum will not teach you how to make apps or sites. You need to learn these on your own. And as you attend the lectures try to use the theory behind the courses into your projects like data structures and computer organization. Good luck!

I'm studying in Coursera, I love it, it's a great platform and cheap in comparison with Edx. I have complete 21 course, among them 2 specializations: Introducing to Computer Science and Programming of University of London and Python for everybody of University of Michigan, 1 professional certificate: Meta backend and currently I'm studying Software Design Specialization from University of Alberta. In could say, courses from University of Pennsilvanya and University of Toronto are great. In other hand, the worst course I have taken was introduction to Computer Science and Programming of University of London, only Maths for computer science in that specialization is acceptable but the other two courses are really bad. If you are self learner, be consistente, have discipline and be pacient. Be self taught learner is really challeging because you want learn everything and you don't know how much you need to learn to be "ready". Do courses and practice, the most important is to practice as much as you can, without practice your knwoledge will vanish as soon as you take the next course. I'm 33 and my background is civil Engineering, I drop my job to follow my passion, I love programming and I want to work in this field. I have to admit sometimes I feel fear about my future, I don't know if some day I could get a job as a self taught software engineer, I hope so. I'm not english native speaker, and belive me, it's hard for me to learn from courses in inglish but my languages skills have impruved as well. The last thing I want to say is, if you love programming, if you lovr technology, you have all tools to became in a professional computer scientis for free in your screen, I just your choice. Greetings from Chile!

I am interested in Computer Science and Programming. I have no background in either. I am impressed by your videos here and I intend to look at all/some of the online courses you recommend. I have a concern however. If Im right you self studied and then got a job as a software engineer in a tech company (am I right?). From a recruitment point of view, how does a company KNOW that you have enough skill/knowledge for the job? Im quite sure they dont just take your word for it if you say that youve self studied various topics. Surely they could just play it safe and recruit someone who has a relevant degree (which may include placement year). Any thoughts? Also, do most/all companies not require a degree (well ask for one anyway) for programmer/software developer roles? In the UK anyway? (You are in the UK, right?) Thanks for the very well edited and informative series of videos on your channel EDIT: added something, formatting, removed something

How reliable is an online degree, anyways? Will it just be another resume tossed to the trash if employers see it is online? How can we be sure an online degree is a safe option?

what matters is not the certificates, it's the skills you learn. Then to showcase that, just build great portfolio projects.
