How I Made $1,700 on a Stolen Dirt Bike

Earlier this year, I ended up trading an old 1994 YZ80 for a 2005 Suzuki RM125. I ended up with a huge scare that the RM125 might actually be stolen, and once that was resolved I turned it into a fresh bike that was ready to rip. We filmed an epic edit on the bike called Three Bikes One Bear that you should definitely check out, and then I posted the bike up for sale! It was a fun project that resulted in not only profit, but good times with my friends as well.

Next time you should add up the price of everything you got for free just to see the real world profit that someone who doesn’t have access to sponsors and stuff could make on a flip like this. Bike turned out awesome btw🔥

Thanks Bobby! In the cost breakdown on screen at 8:40, I did include the total cost without sponsors - $1,672.09. And some of those things, while awesome to have, weren't necessary to still have a successful flip. Such as graphics

I saved up for a brand new YZ250 in 2000. Turned it into a Jeff Emig #11 replica with GFX kit, fmf expansion pipe and exhaust, gold excel rims and a year later it was stolen. Silently cut my garage door off in the dead of night to get to it and my German Shepherd that usually barks at a mosquito flying past the house never left REM sleep. It wasn't until 2011 until I could get another bike. I had a car stolen, a car stereo stolen out of said car too. Even had a GF stolen off me. Nothing hurt like that YZ not being there in the morning. If I saw someone stealing a dirtbike, or knew of someone that stole one...all bets would be off. Nice work on the bike. Very satisfying to watch.

Nice build. When blowing out pipes go to 90 PSI and use two bottles of Map Gas at the same time. One bottle of Map Gas is not enough heat for the deep dents. This will take out dents on cross seams.

Nice work. My elder brother was a nasty piece of work. He really was and still is. I was rebuilding my Honda MT 125 and fitting a CR barrel and piston to it. He was watching me. As I was fitting the piston to the conrod, my mother called out saying there was someone on the phone for me. I answered the phone call and went back to working on the bike. It ran really well and I had fun for a week before the flywheel actually came off due to the end of the crankshaft cracking open. I took the engine to a shop to have a new crankshaft fitted and on collection, they told me that the piston had been fitted the wrong way around. My ratfink brother had done that while I was on the phone. But there wasn't a mark on the barrel or piston. His ploy didn't work but your vid reminded me of it. BTW, I beat the snot out him for that.....

Do you have any trouble finding parts to rebuild older bikes that are no longer in production?
@KincadePavich
@KincadePavich Жыл бұрын
Not really - there are so many aftermarket parts available for most of these bikes. I had some trouble finding OEM powervalve components for the 2001 KX250 build a couple years ago. For the most part it hasn't been much of an issue with the bikes I've worked on.
@rowdysworld22
@rowdysworld22 Жыл бұрын
Ok I see, when I think of aftermarket, cheap knockoffs parts comes to mind. But I see some aftermarket parts are not so bad, OEM is best I’m sure but availability isn’t always there.

Hey everyone! Funny story this is actually my bike and before you give me shit for the piston I had way too much to drink when I did the top end lmao. I just wanted to comment and mention I had a guy contact me and then sit outfront of my shop saying the yz 80 was stolen and I waited hours for him to leave and or cops to show up. Anyways long story short he did file a stolen reports exept he had written the vin down incorrectly by 1 number and ended up not being able to do anything about it. Anyways had a good experience with Kincade other than I freaked out when I found out it was stolen and he either didn't see or ignored my text either way doesn't matter all is well thay ends well.

was it a nikasil plated cylinder and is that safe to hone?
@KincadePavich
@KincadePavich 11 ай бұрын
To be 100% honest, I’m not an expert in that realm. Yes, it was nikasil plated. I believe in general, honing nikasil is a no go. Being it was one small spot, I wanted to try it. We put a few hard hours on this bike before I sold it and it ran like a top. I felt pretty confident in the repair. But it is probably not considered best practice.
