As I was preparing to move into a new apartment, I started researching what kind of mattress to buy. I'm not sure how it happened, but in the depths of my research, I came across wool mattresses from a Bulgarian company called Home of Wool. Then I discovered they sell DIY mattress kits and I immediately knew that was a challenge I was eager to take on. So I ordered the kit and 84 pounds of wool and had it all shipped to Brooklyn. Wait, oops actually I accidentally had it sent to Providence. So I drove 3 hours north, stuffed 84 pounds of wool in my boyfriend's Honda Accord, and drove another 3 hours back to New York. And then I made a mattress!
Big thanks to Jared Gay for helping me with filming and polishing the final video and to Ben Swisher for letting me use his beautiful music: benswisher.bandcamp.com/album...
I’ve been sleeping on this mattress for the past 4 months and am very happy with it. Once a week, I rotate and flip it to make sure the wool compresses evenly. It’s not too soft, not too firm. Most of the time I don’t know even think about it, which I think is a sign of a good mattress.
Home of Wool is a really great company that sells mattresses, bedding, and fabric and supplies you need to make your own home things. If you’re interested in buying anything from them, you can follow this link for 5% off:
