Scott, you have done a masterful job. The fact that you show your mistakes and then explain how you have fixed them to your satisfaction is a tip of the hat to you. I am working on a van as well. This is not a job for the faint of heart but certainly gives you a level of satisfaction when you complete a job leading to the end of the build.

That looks so professional that’s Prevost territory right there. And just so you understand I worked at an RV dealership in the detail department and I have cleaned several million dollar Prevosts. Including but not limited to pulling all the cabinet drawers and shelves out and belongings out and cleaning the plumbing and wiring and conduit. You have peaked my interest because I have a 144 3500 freightliner I said I am going to be converting soon.

Scott, your ceiling looks great!! A couple questions: 1. how did you support the plywood at the most forward and rearward ends of the van? 2. How do you support the plywood at the sides of the van ( is it just compressed by your upper cabinets? 3. How did you accommodate the electrical cable running front to rear at the top of the driver's side wall?

I have a DIY van that I purchased. I have no craftsman skills. I bought it turn key it was not built for me. The builder used 80-20 framing and used marine grade vinyl for the wall panels to keep the weight down. I wish I had L Track and hopefully can have it added. I think it’ll come in very handy for so many things. I love your channel and viewing the process of creativity, ingenuity, and problem solving. There’s so much I need to learn and understand about van builds so that I can maintain and trouble shoot mine. I love my van but unfortunately the builder is 3000 miles away from me so it’s not EZ to get back to him if/when things need work.

Hi Scott - We are in the building phase of ceilings and walls and this video is being watched for the second time now - thanks for such good info for this style of ceiling! I do have a question though, did you choose to put the 1/8" closed-cell foam between plywood and vinyl for sound dampening? or softening the blow if you hit your head, lol? Seriously though, any thoughts / ideas would be appreciated - we were wondering if we needed to use the foam, what advantage it would serve. Partly because of all that gluing/wrapping effort, which though you did a great job, we're not 100% certain we want to tackle...thanks!

Scott, I am doing exactly the same ceiling treatment on my 170 and have the L track to go in between the panels just as you did. I wanted to add the arrowheads that go at either end of the L track but am worried about getting the fit exactly right. It was difficult putting them on the L track on a flat, vertical wood surface ( I have them on the back wall of my garage ) so the thought of adding them on the ceiling, which of course is metal- and curved, not straight, kinda terrifies me ! Did you consider it and if not, why not..? Thx

Hi, they looked great. It’s nice to hear someone thinking about the weight of the conversion ahead of time. I do wonder how many overloaded van conversions are rolling down the road. Have you had any issues with the vinyl expanding or contracting with changes in temperature changes?

Hey yeah Im not a pro.... I dont do it for a living....but I had to pick up the materials, map out the ceiling....mark all holes for rivnuts for both the ceiling panels and upper cabinets at this time....make sure the holes in the plywood line up with the rivnuts....scribe, cut, trim cut, trim cut....... x3 pieces......Then foam, wrap, vinyl wrap, 3 pieces..... insulate ceiling, install lighting in panels and wire them, running wiring from one side of the van to the other and make sure I have enough wires going over.... install the panels on sheet at a time allowing me to make adjustments..... Yeah it took me a while but im happy with the results.
