In this video I break down the beat for Mach-Hommy Westside Gunn and Keisha Plum Folie à Deux off the album Pray for Haiti! Pray for Haiti dropped May 21 2021 and changed the game for me forever. I completely found my superpowers during making the records I produced on it. Mach is an incredible talent and Westside Gunn is the 🐐executive producer.
While producing this song I had an anxiety attack and decided to use it as an inspiration for the record! Which was a wild idea in itself!

That first loop sounds like the audio version of schizophrenia so I can see how it can induce a panicked reaction. That flutter effect (maybe the 606) adds a little bit of mania to your beats. It’s like one of those dreams where everything is normal but something feels off. Like some ghoul could pop out at any time, like a looming jumps scare that never happens. Same feeling you get when you watch Atlanta

Pray For Haiti is one of my most favorite albums that have dropped within the past 10 years. The production you provide in this album is absolutely incredible. Listening to this album on vinyl is even better so I highly recommend getting a vinyl record of this album and listening to it on a record player. I immediately get dragged into a very specific universe with these beats. Each individual beat you make on this album gives me a certain type of feeling. It would take ages to describe everything I see and feel from these beats. The passion being put into them is very visible and we are all very grateful to have you expressing your artistic visions through these wonderful beats. Peace man, this is one of my favorites with Mach and West, and seeing the emotional place that this instrumental came from really is surreal. To me, Pray For Haiti was a huge moment in the year for hip hop in 2021. I remember hearing WSG say “wait till you hear pray for haiti” on Westside Gunday in April and I got more excited for a release that I maybe ever have, and it met every expectation. You’re such a huge part of that to me and I really appreciate how much you’ve shared of your process. Makrel Jaxon is my favorite on the record, I’d love to hear a little of the story behind that beat. Genius to use the sample saying “c’est meilleur to switch the lingo”, boils down all the switches between English and Kreyol on the whole album.

The first time I heard this beat my jaw dropped. I was walking my dogs on a super sunny day and when the second sequence started it felt like sun rays piercing my body. I listened to it on repeat for the rest of my walk. It's an iconic Griselda-era beat 💯

Your description of your process making this song is wild because it perfectly describes the experience I had the first time I listened to Folie a Deux, but in reverse. The "bubbles" seemed like a portal into the e-piano sample, like a spaceship going through warp speed and coming out the other side seeing stars and all types of shit. It's kinda wild that it was like going in the opposite direction for you. Shouts to you for staying in that moment and building something incredible, this tune gave me deja vu as if I heard it once before years ago and it got lost in the ether. Genius brother.
