did this back in 2010 when there was no competition. Was amazing for about a year then everyone started doing it. Ended up finding a dude I sold them in bulk to and avoided ebay. It was an amazing side gig in college. Only down side was meeting sketchy people and potential stolen phones.

I did this for 6 years while I worked as a store manager for Verizon. From 2015 to 2020 money was easy and inventory was easy. Noticed the super slow down when covid hit and now it’s a struggle .

You forgot to mention one thing about selling on eBay.. and that is issues with buyers who commit fraud, pretend they never received the phone or it got damaged during ship. And you have to deal with chargebacks and disputes

Guys don't buy electronics in person without having the selling first prove that the item works. Unless you want to spend more money or time into attempting to repair it. Also, wouldn't recommend just taking a box without seeing first that the actual phone is inside!

You can do this with many things not only Iphones and it varies from one region to another, people might dismiss something like this but you would not believe the amount of times I would score spectacular deals from people that either have no idea what the value of what they're selling is or people that are selling with the pure intention of getting rid of clutter, in general you shouldn't dismiss a business model like this honestly but you shouldn't copy it straight up as well, use it as inspiration to deal with stuff that you think might be more viable according to where you live and what you have around you.

Lets be realistic, I sold phones for 3 year on Ebay. You buy a phone for $200, you price it t $325. Well, there is an ebay listing fee, an Ebay sale fee(10%, now 12%), a Shipping fee of $8 average, 14% to 20% Taxes to pay on gains, gas/energy for car, maintenence after traveling 100s of miles a week, and ect. So a $125 profit turns into about $60 total and that is a perfect sale. Now you have insurance scams with people who sell, then report stolen, you have ebay buyers who switch phones and send back old junk phones, keep new phone, ebay always takes customers side. Soo take 25% of that $60 for incidentals. you make $45 on the phone and thats with a full ceiling markup. Not to mention, robberies happen meeting people on streets and ect. I been there, done that.

I have been thinking about trying to flip phones on the side. One of the biggest set backs is the fact that after selling more than $600 on ebay, you are supposed to report it. I work full time and have a 2 year old. So trying to flip phones is starting to sound like more of a fulltime job rather than a side gig. You need to search for phones, drive to pick them up, clean them, list them, sell them, and then make sure to keep track of sales. I really want to give this a try. But what is the easiest way to keep track so you can report them when filing taxes?

I mean with that said I assume you are already and have been doing the reselling portion (not buying) at a wholesale level already, I mean could you not gain the same amount of inventory from sellers if you ran adverts and had a system for mail ins (for ppl to mail you their phones to sell) & lastly do you enjoy that aspect of face to face deals and negotiating?

Let’s not forget that you have to do your due diligence to ensure the IMEI is clean and the phone is not carrier locked or that affects your bottom end. These videos are just to make them more money, it’s not as easy it sounds.

as a phone flipper, this guy works on very small margins. he is overpaying very much on the phones and is not showing accurate sell prices. Iphone 8 doesn't sell for $180, he also doesn't mention fees and shipping in any of his sales. There is no other way of learning than experience.

I do even microsoldering and glass replacement but i can't make high profit per phone as you, so something is not okay. Let's se example: I bought iphone 12 for 78 usd (damaged screen, face id no work, motherboard issue no wifi, no cellular. ). Repair cost me: screen 75 USD (third party screen with no message appear & true tone work), face id repair 14 usd. Repair board interposed cost me 10 usd. PHONE finalu cost me 180 USD to be in 100% working and good condition. new battery and correction to 100% cost 45 USD. So finally phone cost me 225 USD, I sell for 460 USD. But tons of work behind so many repairs to make a so huge profit...

I have electronics sitting on Facebook marketplace for months that I keep relisting and I get a bunch of people I don't want to deal with with offers I would never consider and armies of scammers to fight against. Don't waste time with Facebook marketplace and the high fees of eBay.

this actually really sucks, he doesnt go over how much capital is tied into inventory, or all the driving that causes wear and tear on his car in order to get the iphones, add in all the messaging and negotiating with sellers, IMO its way too many hours with lots of risk
