I seriously do need to know how to draw a cityscape

I finally figured out that I want to make manga/comics for my lifetime career, but dang... I keep getting frustrated and lose patience while drawing. I just want to be able to put what I imagine on paper.

This is great! For my school project I'm drawing a comic, but I had no idea where to begin!

I just learned more in these 14 mins than I did from like 4 hours of other comic videos, as well as really just art in general on how to let go and not be so committed... Mark you're such a teacher, lol.

I would like to see you show how to draw a detailed environment, maybe not just any old runky dink cityscape, but something more period, like renaissance, or Victorian, something more interesting and unique.

You'd be a good voice actor, Mark.

I was thinking about this two weeks ago, and was planing on experimenting on drawing story boards & panels this weekend. Then this video come out. Thanks Crilley, I really appreciate it.

So mark, I'm creating a comic just for fun and I wanted to do it in a classic comic style, but the problem was I had issues with consistency. So I tried again in a manga style, and although It was going much better the style I was using was just so generic and honestly I'm not a big manga fan. I found myself not enjoying what I drew. I was at a loss. Then I started watching your channel about 6 months ago. Watching you draw such a wide array of styles manga or no really inspired me. For the holidays I purchased both your Mastering Manga Books and all your current Brodi's Ghost comics. When I looked through the books I realised just how stylised something as "simple" as manga could be! It's because of what you do and what you show that made me buckle down and develop a style personalised for me. Thanks to you this comic will be the best I can make it, and that was the best I could of ever wanted. Thank you so much Mark. Keep doing what your doing, because you make the best of differences even if they're seemingly insignificant.

You've inspired me to chase my dream of creating my own book based on something I've loved since childhood, and shown me that it's completely possible to make a living doing what you love if you work hard enough.

To be honest mark you've help spark my interest in re creating my manga. I've been so insecure about trying to draw it again that I just stopped and when I would try to create my characters, they all would look different or something wouldn't go right. I've been watching your tutorials and visors since 2011 and just recently got back into refining my story. Im working currently redesigning the characters and was wondering if you'd have any feedback or anything that maybe I could use to help strengthen my characters/series and just my drawings in general. That was very helpful, thank you! I've always wanted to make comics and I have a few good ideas, but I never know how to go about fleshing them out, and when I do decide to make a panel it's very unorganized. I think these tips will help make more put-together stuff in the future.

Good to know you're continuing this one (I was really confused about what happened to the last one), as these how to apply drawing videos are really helpful, not only to create comics but also to appreciate them better. I also wanted to say, I held off on buying Mastering Mana, naively thinking I could gain all the needed insights from videos. I was wrong. One of the best drawing books I own.

I want to make my own comic as well, but I really dont get very far. I am still in the planning stage but I am for almost a year now. I haven't drawn a single panel yet. So this really is a life saver. Thank you Mark ^^. If possible can you talk us through a bit on how the planning stage works a bit? So I mean the stage before you actually start working on panels. That'd be a great help.

This was sooo interesting! I love it! I love it! I like the first part where it was like you were writing a play, Crilley. (my favourite form of literature by the way) With the stage directions and everything. And like Shakespeare, you created characters. But the best part? You get to give the role to the perfect actor, because you created him/her. Then how to incorporate the panelling and drawing with the script to ensure the best telling of the story... You're a genius, Crilley! A GENIUS, I TELL YOU! (breathing heavily) I want more! I totally already purchased both how-to-draw books recently (after much saving, spending and saving again) but now I'm definitely saving for your actual works =3 This is coming all the way from Jamaica. I find it interesting that you create "storyboards" for comics like one would for animation. This helped me out so much.

Mark, I have all of your many a books and comics and you make it look so easy. I try so hard just to make the man characters and following your steps and your astounding! I'm working on a manga comic right now and I'm only 11! I know that I need a lot more motivation and maybe even more skill. I keep downing myself but you always keep me going...any advice?

YAAASS!! This is exactly what I needed! I've always wanted to make my own comic book to publish(as well as a novel) and I'm pretty good at making stories, I've even written a few. But I never knew how. I had a friend who could draw comics but that didn't go anywhere and this video was sitting right here. Helped me so much! I hope I can someday publish a manga comic. Yeah city perspective!

How can you draw cities so easily, Mark? I find it so difficult, and I'm an experienced drawer myself, but I can't find a good city tutorial out there that doesn't make it look like a cheap mess. EDIT: Those poor mountain men! Mark, you left them to DIE! They're probably long dead by now... XD

Oh I love this video so much. Thanks for posting it. I'm interested in trying my hand at comics but was never sure where to start and could never find any good resources for it. This helps a lot for that. Also, I do film work and storyboards are usually what bring that process to a grinding halt (they scare me so much). Your thumbnail planning gave be a better idea on how to go about doing detailed storyboards that aren't stick figures but that also don't take longer to draw than the actual film making process
