In this video, I speak about my the last year and my experience of going from a full time video editor, to quitting my job to do KZfaq "full time". I go over the different ways I made money with KZfaq this year, showing the potential it has a source for passive income. I also do my best to answer your questions from Instagram about the process and behind the scenes of being a KZfaqr. Hope you all enjoyed this one.
Some of the links above contain affiliate links. Purchasing anything through these links doesn’t cost you anything extra, but I get a little bit of $ off Bezos and his boys.

Yeah, I have question: What video editing software do you use? I've invested so much in other passive online incomes - that I cannot afford to move off of IMovie, which is very limiting. Like you, I'm giving myself 6 months. I've got Amazon KDP brewing and growing...finally just started my Amazon Affiliate Program, and as I stated before - I started and AI youtube channel. I'd like the editing process to be more professional - but Imovie just isn't all that.

As you’re self-employed, your income may not be regular, so it might not work well under PAYE (pay as you earn). The payment on account method bases future payments on historical actuals, so it can create a degree of regularity. An alternative is to look into setting up your own company. This is not as complicated as it appears to be, but depending on the type of company, you will have reporting and filing requirements. Well, you already have those via self-assessment. Another way to reduce your tax bill is to pay into a personal pension plan. Pension schemes are a tax-efficient way to save for retirement - which you’ll be able to access as early as age 55 (or 57 when the gov’t changes the rules). They’re tax-efficient because you don’t pay tax on your pension contributions at the time of making them. When you retire you will be able to access 25% of the pension pot tax-free, and the remaining 75% you’ll likely be a basic rate tax payer, paying 20% tax on the drawdown above your personal allowance - where right now you are a higher rate tax payer, with 40% of your money above £50k going up in tax. Hopefully, you can see that 20% tax, years from now, on 75% of your pension pot is likely to be less tax than 40% every year now while you’re of working age. That’s income tax. If you invest your money, you’ll want to avoid capital gains tax, and a simple way to do that is to invest via an ISA each year. You can invest/save £20k per tax year and all the gains are tax-free. If you go this route, make sure you set up an ISA with low fees. Fees can really eat into gains. I signed up to Trading 212 as it has the lowest fees in this tax year and I like their simple investment pies, but, of course, do your own research. Year to year you can move your ISAs, but don’t withdraw them. Instead, you have to fill in a transfer form with the new ISA provider. A lot of people forget this and they screw up how much they can save each year. Another fun fact: The April to April year is the government’s tax year and it relates to income tax. The government’s corporation tax year, for example, is March to March. So the government’s financial year (corp tax) is a little different to its tax year (income tax). Many other tax territories are based on calendar year. If you set yourself up as a limited company, the profits would be subject to corporation tax. If your company paid you a salary, your salary would still be subject to income tax and national insurance contributions. This is where you’ll need to do the sums. If your company becomes an employer, it will have to run a payroll, file monthly under RTI (real time information) and the company will also need to pay employer’s national insurance (13.8% of the gross salary bill - after the secondary threshold of £9.1K is deducted. You can find all tax rates and thresholds on the gov. uk website). Tax doesn’t have to be taxing :) Let me know if you have any questions.

@sep.s
@sep.s Жыл бұрын
@@projectDominicNot sure if you got an answer on this but the answer is probably yes, but it depends on what your financial goals are (for example, what do you want to do about private pension contributions). I recommend speaking to an accountant who can crunch the numbers for you and give you options depending on what you want to do (and it is also an expense which you can claim against your income :) )

@@projectDominic one difference might be vat registration, which is optional under a certain amount but compulsory above (i think) 85k pa. If you don’t have that many expenses it could be detrimental to be registered. Maybe consider using a different company per website.

Heya George, great video as always! re: the payments on accounts, your payment in Jan 24 will be the first estimated half of your 23-24 tax bill, the tax year we're currently in, then the second will be in July 24, just slightly after the 23-24 Tax year ended, then finally if anything futher is due you'd be expected to pay it by Jan 25. If you're anticipating for your 23-24 earnings to be less than last year it's worth stating this to HMRC so your 2 requested payments in Jan & Jul are more aligned and you don't end up overpaying and asking for a refund.

George, your videos are so helpful! Thanks for sharing the story of your home transformation. I wanted to share that my husband & I recently had a carpet runner installed in our front interior stairs (we live in a second floor flat) -- and I love that the stairs are now much more comfortable, less noisy when people walk on them -- and they are so much SAFER! We can still see the beautiful oak flooring on either side of the carpet. The carpet runner has a border on either side -- and as a result the visual effect is to emphasize that these are STAIRS. As you pointed out in your videos, stairs can be slippery and potentially hazardous. Thank you for sharing this important point and sharing your own slipping experience. @George - if you are not using a tax consultant, you should at this point. It's entirely possible that you DON'T need to pay on account (they used to make me do this, and the tax consultant filled in a nice sheet for HMRC explaining that I didn't need to). Congratulations on your rapid rise!

Really enjoyed this - it's all new to me! Yes, please do make a video of the other channel and of the things that failed. I think we often learn more from things that failed than things that worked. And I think you could make a channel for Junior - her success stor-, considering how often she is mentioned in the comments. Take care of yourself

Here in Norway, if you run a _business_ (even if it's self-employed) you can write off VAT (or rather pay it forward sorta). You can also write off expenses from your tax, which sometimes can be bigger than your tax bill, and write off annual value loss on equipment, and so on.

In the US, we also have to make 'Payments on Account' if you aren't witholding enough tax throughout the year. It's called 'Estimated Tax' here in the US. We do an AirBnB, and this past year, we didn't pay enough tax, so we're having to send Estimated Tax payments this year... Blergh...

Thanks for your wisdom! I enjoy watching your videos, and your voice is soooooo soothing. I can listen to it all day! Well done for all that you have achieved. Regarding the tax payment on account thing, sadly it is just how HMRC (UK's version of the IRS) works. For taxpayers who self-assess i.e. trading in their own capacity and not as an incorporated company, they make one payment on account (50% of previous trading year's tax liability - used as a guide to come up with a number) during the tax year by 31 Jan, then another payment on account (the other 50% of previous trading year's tax liability - again used as a guide to come up with a number) by 31 July after the end of the tax year (5 April). If the 31 Jan and 31 July payments combined is less than your calculated tax liability for the tax year that ended on 5 April, you will be required to make a balancing payment in the following year by 31 Jan. Each payment on account is 50% of the previous tax year's liability, after giving credit for tax already paid at source, such as PAYE. If the 31 Jan and 31 July payments add up to more than your calculated tax liability for the tax year that ended on 5 April, you can claim a refund but sadly I don't know the details of how to go about this. No doubt your accountant knows! So, potentially, by/on any 31 Jan, you could be paying (1) a payment on account for the *current* year (based on 50% of the previous year's liability) and (2) a balancing payment for the *previous* year if applicable. All in all, HMRC makes sure that it has staged chunks of payments made to it throughout the year! If you have made losses, you can set them against income. Rather tricky to explain with words alone! I draw myself a little chart to visualise the timeline.
