Metal Detecting on Crescent Beach with the Minelab CTX-3030. Crescent Beach is just a short drive South of Saint Augustine. The CTX 3030 shines in saltwater. It's very stable even using the Auto Sensitivity settings. For deepest penetration, go with manual sensitivity and dial it up as high as you can without excessive falsing. At his beach, I was able to run manual at around 28 out of 30 without any issue. With any detector - the more you use it, the more you will be proficient with it. Happy Hunting!

I agree with you on sifting sand... only if I’m in really dry sand, or if I’m in the water and let the water wash the sand through the scoop.

Great video man. Thanks for sharing, but a $2500 detector and no Pinpointer?

Seems to go pretty deep, the sound seems to be all over the place... but pinpoints good.... I use a shovel for the beach 🏖 once out of the hole I push the sand with my foot until I see the item... I don’t go down and dig through the sand looking for it.

People that sift sand are funny. The holes in sifters in my opinion are for two purposes 1. Reducing the overall weight of the scoop and 2. Sifting under water

Hi Jason, nice hunt! I'm laying on my gf couch eating peanut butter with a chopstick watching you hunt. Anyways what are your CTX settings? I usually hunt Santa Cruz CA. on Beach mode, combined, deep on, seawater on, fast recovery on, pinpoint normal, response normal, low trash, manual sense at 27, volume at 25, threshold 20. Cheers from Cali.

Good Morning ExplorTheEarth! Peanut Butter with Chopsticks?! Now that's a challenge! Lets see - all my settings are close to the same. I set them and forget them...so it's been a while since I've dug through some of them. I did hunt in manual mode more this last trip and was able to achieve a nice 28-29 setting with out too much false-ing. Doing mainly coin-shooting here in Traverse City, Michigan - I also while on the saltwater Florida beaches do switch between Beach mode and Coin mode. I just am more used to the tones I have set for coins. I also sometimes prefer the sharper response from my coin mode setup. I forgot my headphones this last trip but did have my WM-10 so I just attached that to my chest pocket while hunting keeping the speaker closer to my ears. Worked ok and really made the audio on the videos nicer so I may record that way from now on although I do not hear the threshold very well and that's a minus for the hunt. Had a AT-PRO before the CTX and just got tired of digging junk. Too many bottle caps and nails. I kept the AT-PRO as a back up and to allow friends and family to go hunting with me on occasion. The AT-PRO is a good machine for it's price point no doubt. My first and best year was 2015 -BUT I wasn't recording my hunts - I was concentrating on metal detecting. I scooped several gold rings and charms out of the Crescent Beach, Florida area and many many silver dimes out of the local parks - recorded none of it! Oh well - it is hunting after all - good years and not so good years. It' keeps it real I guess. HH! - Jason

When you travel do you bring the detector on the plane with you or do you put it in baggage?
@richarddavis1595

arode2981 I work for the airline and I travel with my detector but never would I pack my machine in a checked bag, I put it in carryon bag and bring it with me through security. They may look to verify what it is but even traveling international I have never had a problem. If you put it in your checked bag you risk having it damaged in transit.

Looks like you will be missing a lot of targets with your swing pattern... maybe overlap for maximum target recovery😁

I here you nug nug. In the limited areas of parks it makes sense to cover ALL of it. Parks are also usually smaller confided areas. They are usually somewhat trashy and require a slow swing and overlapping. On the ocean shoreline - with endless miles of beach, my strategy is more about reading the beach and not spending time in sanded in locations where drops are less likely to be located. I move along reading the beach and also the signals (or lack of) and the items I'm finding. Once I hit a decently heavy item (Lead Weight, etc.) and/or the beach is showing me that it's capable of holding up heavier items on it's surface (Shells, Coral, etc) , I'll then slow and overlap or even do a grid or spiral pattern. I've read and experienced that items at the beach after dropped, "sift" out into areas of the beach depending on sand, tide, and wind/wave conditions. My first order is to read the beach and find the areas where the heaviest items will be held or deposited. The technique of ocean shoreline hunting is very interesting as the sand is always moving, depositing items here and there with each tide and more so during heavy storm surge. It's like the ocean "shuffles the deck" on you with each tide. In parks, items are dropped and they usually get pressed into the soil or are naturally overcome by seasonal debris. These items, for that reason, usually stay put. The ocean, on the other hand, is always moving things around, especially on the lower beach. It's a search and destroy situation of finding the "hard" sand and doing the grid and spiral. For this reason, I move along on the beach until I perceive I've located an area probable of holding heavy metals. HH - Jason
