Thank you. This really helped me. I've got a mess of stuff scattered on Ancestry, my hard drive, and in boxes. I've been trying to figure out a way to consolidate it. Two things I've learned - this work takes time, and it's incredibly worthwhile. I've got a lot of admiration for what those who came before me did.

Great system, Carly. I, too, constantly worry abt losing my tree on Ancestry. I need to have a back up like this, but never seem to have the time to devote to it. Thanks for sharing.

Can you do a short video on to fill out the index? Also, can you explain the numbers on the bottom of the page? Do you use the same number for every page related to a specific ancestor?

Thank you for this. I have so much information in different note books and want to get them organized into one binder per root person and eventually get it published into a book. Thank you for sharing.

Just found you on youtube and find this very interesting way of doing things. I have been doing genealogy for around 40 years and of course have my own way of doing things, but always looking for something new. My question is - Is there a reason you put mother first and father second on your index? This goes against every program I have ever used and wonder if there is a specific reason for it? Also do you not keep track of all the cousins etc in your books only the grandparents?

Thank you. I have lost names in my family tree because I depended on a website to keep the information. I realize because of this, that I should have hard copies of all of my research.

@Hello Carly Morgan. This video was so helpful ! Quick question though, Did you start your book with you and then slowly working your way into your ancestors ? Also , did you combine both your father and mother family history in the same book ?

I started with each of my parents and worked my way up. My parents are divorced and remarried so all four parents have their own book with them as the root person. I have a different book where I keep all of my history/memories but I don’t have any other relatives in that one.

OMG ! I was not expecting a response and if one , not this quick lol. I've started my journey in learning my family history that started with a 14 day free trial on Ancestry. After days of on going research I found myself over whelmed and that led me to your page. I'm currently about to purchase some things from you to really get this process going ! You are a LIFE SAVER !

You've done well with your ancestory book. I can only find small bits of information on my family. Not alot because throughout the years some of it hadn't been recorded in Government pages. Like going back to 1600s. And my family only have little bits of information. Back then even in 1800s my ethnicity/race didnt have to record their names marriages etc becaus either wasnt law til years later. And their land was confiscated but some documents were Burnt so that government didnt have any records as to what lands were confiscated
