Hello my friends and a very warm welcome back to my humble and happy little painting channel. In this video we are going to be painting this rather epic He-man Dice Tower. We are going to be recreating this one to look like the old retro version of the tower from the old cartoons and of course the old toy that most of us oldies had back in the day. This one will be using a slight greenish tint to the castle instead of painting it all as just one flat grey colour. Let me know in the comments section below what you guys think of my final piece.

Thank you so much for your continued support and awesomely positive comments. This channel has been fuelled by you guys and the more you watch, comment and like the content the more content I will post. This channel was made during lockdown simply to show my friends how I paint in my spare time and since then it has grown into a nice little platform with quite a lot of content. Please feel free to ask any questions in the comments bellow and I will get back to you and answer you to the best of my ability.
As always Thank you for tuning in and watching and I hope you enjoyed this video and I really do hope that it helps you on your painting adventures.
I would like to add a special thank you to my good friend Mark Llewellyn for his amazing backing music. My videos wouldn't be anywhere near as good without them.
Also a massive thank you to my good friend Chris Dixon for his artwork on my banner.

Outcomes like this make me want to brush everything. I'm trying to only use an airbrush when I need fine gradients fast or shadows if varying degrees of fineness similarly fast.

Thanks so much. I get what you mean about brush vs airbrush. I find both have their own place and their own very unique style. An airbrush is fantastic for smooth transitions and fast colour blends and using one is an art form all of its own. However brush painting also offers a variety of different textures to create its own story on the minis. As an example brushing stone creates a fantastic organic looking rough highlight. Thank you so much for watching and of course commenting too it really helps the channel to grow and I really appreciate it. Take care my friend.

Thanks a lot braam. It’s been a really fun project. Although it looks really detailed and a bit of a unit to work with it’s been fun trying to make it nice and easy to follow. Even the lighting and osl around the mouth can be achieved and made in such a simple way. I’m glad you liked this one. Take care my friend 👍🏻

Thank you for the content and sharing. When painting the Dark Green base coat, any tips/tricks/hints to minimize Brush Strokes? I am brush painting several large surfaces and looking for advice. Cheers.

Thanks for tuning in and watching my friend. To try to limit the amount of brush strokes on the model itself I try to make sure the paint is thinned with water or flow improver. This allows the paint to move more freely and blend into the model. It helps with brush strokes and allows for the paint to dry in a more even and flat style. I hope this helps you out. I use a brush for everything and haven’t yet tried an airbrush so this is the way I personally try to avoid those pesky brush strokes.

hey, firstly Did you Prime the model? Also I would definatly use a rattle can to apply the first 2-3 basecoats before washing and dry brushing.

Hi mate. I certainly did prime the model. I use “rustoleum” Matt grey primer on most of my models. It’s a happy medium for me where it’s neither too dark or light as a primer. Great idea about using a spray can on the first and it can certainly lower the amount of work load for sure. Although the ak interactive paint that I used is fantastic at coverage even when thinned and does dry down to a great Matt effect. These are all great questions and suggestions. Thank you so much for dropping by and offering a different perspective to this painting video. Take care my friend 👍🏻

Hi Dan, I like the size of this piece. The scale allows the painter to really have at it! I like the green base tone. The fire glow from the mouth is very cool. The addition of turf is also a fantastic touch to increase the creepiness of this tower. The final faded Jade finish is a rich look. Something very different. Ever since I first saw a Dice Tower, I always wanted to make one. I have some plans drawn but, .... (well y'know how that goes) haha I'd like to comment on the inspiration and the ideas that you have provided me with this project. My eye wants to see more variation in the stones' colors. Warm and cool washes to depict individual stones. I also thought that I might dry brush White before the Yellow glow around the mouth. It's my thinking that this would ameliorate the green and brighten the yellow/orange. The added turf works well. I see more dead vines, leaf scatter and some stone debris. The one major point I notice are the eyes. They seem 'flat' compared to the rest of the tower. I don't see them, They don't lend any menacing glare. You gave me the idea to put lights in them (and the windows) or maybe copy the fire glow of the mouth. I'm also thinking of a little resin over the paint maybe, to enhance them. Again, I'm not familiar with the paint scheme of this piece (box art or show) but, my eyes see something different. These comments are based on the ideas you provided me for my vision of what I'd like to do, based on what you did. As always Thank You for sharing your passion for painting so those who follow can get their own inspiration and ideas to paint it for themselves. It's always serendipitous to see what ideas your paint projects put in my head! Diolch Dude!!

Hey Michael. What an amazing and in depth comment this is my friend. You have given me a lot to unpack here. I thank you for such an detailed and deep comment that covers so much. You have put some fantastic suggestions in here and a few really great ideas that I could learn from. The idea of using a white tone before the yellows is such a great idea and definitely something I will take into consideration when painting in future. I also absolutely love the idea of putting something like a small light into the eyes and creating a more creepy character. That is such a brilliant suggestion and something I personally would never have thought of myself. I think the vines would have been another great idea and could also really enhance the more creepy tone or feel of the overall piece. It's a great suggestion on the different tones and colours of washes to elevate the stones and see more individuality from them. I'll be completely honest with you that I at first glance wasn't quite sure how to tackle this project due to it's size and also it's theme. I tried to go with my gut feeling of greens and blues in tone for the stonework as I remember from the older cartoon when I was young that the castle has a sort of greenish glow to it and sometimes it transitions into a purple hue towards the top too. This was a project that I went at through instinct and it grew into a lovely piece that I didn't expect. It's funny sometimes how you can just let the brush go and your mind wonder and find artwork in there just waiting to burst out. It's such an interesting and fascinating way to paint. I'm glad that you enjoyed this one as always my friend. This is again something new and different for the channel in a way of keeping things fresh and offering people so many different choices of what or how to paint things. I really do appreciate the amount of time you have taken to write this comment out and to really look so deeply into the artwork and offer such brilliant ideas to make this even better than what I have made. Thank you for always pushing me and pointing out some new and unique points that I would have otherwise completely missed. You are a true gentleman and as always have given the channel and others who view this so many great ideas and additions to the painting. Take care of yourself my friend and I will see you on the next one!

@@Bread0fHeaven Hey Dan, it's easy to say what "you should have done" it's a little more flattering and honest, to say "what I would have done". I think it was this philosophy that won us the war back in '76. Haha Thank You again for all of your input!! You are the gentleman my friend.
