I was curious how you were able to pass the exam with the Udemy course. It looks like there are about 800 N2 words on the Udemy course, but the 新完全マスター単語 has 2500 'official' words for N2. Also, I've read that the grammar from the Udemy course covers about 70% of the grammar in the 新完全マスター文法. Did you often come across grammar and words that you didn't know, or did you feel like the course covered everything? Thanks!
@ThatJapanLife
@ThatJapanLife 2 жыл бұрын
There were not that many ‘core’ words, but whenever I come across a word that wasn’t familiar to me, I took it upon myself to look it up and understand it. So, I was definitely able to learn more vocabulary 😊 As for the grammar, I haven’t really tries the 完全マスター book and only used the Udemy course (and other resources I discusses in the video).

Good luck on studying Japanese! I’m sure you’d be able to achieve N2 or higher in a couple of years as well. I had an English-teaching job and most (if not all) English-teaching jobs in Japan don’t really require any Japanese proficiency that’s why it’s the most popular field for foreigners who want to live here.

Thanks for the tips. I knew of Jpod and AnkiApp but never heard of the Udemy course. I’ve tried it and it’s really solid and I find it super effective not just for preparing for N2 but for studying Japanese overall- many of the phrases they teach are commonly used so huge thanks for that. I’m currently halfway to completing it. One question though, with Jpod, which section did you focus on in terms of N2 preparation? There are so many so it’s difficult to identify which episode to focus on for N2 preparation. Would love to hear your thoughts on this.

I passed N4 last year(December test) and i was going to take N3 last July but it was canceled. I started my N3 lessons properly for almost 2 months now and i'm halfway done with Kanji and grammar. Listening has always been my strength, so i'm not really concerned about that. (I also took lots of N3 listening tests and most of the time, i almost aced it.) Thanks for these helpful tips! I'm just curious, i'm thinking of investing through Japanese tutorial centers here in the Philippines and since it's pandemic time, it's mostly gonna be online sessions.... so I'm thinking if it would be worth a shot of actually just spending through paid apps rather than enrolling on expensive japanese tutorial centers which would still be online anyway... What are your thoughts on this?
@ThatJapanLife
@ThatJapanLife 3 жыл бұрын
Michael Angelo Sarabia hi. I personally have never went to an actual Japanese tutorial center even in the Philippines and can’t speak about the quality of the teaching materials and instructors of the center you are planning on going to. However, I did come close to enrolling myself in a center once. I went to inquire about their service and received an orientation during which I learned that the material they are going to use is not their own but the Minna No Nihongo Series. I thought to myself - I can get my own copies of the book (online, for free even) and the book is not really hard to navigate even if you are a beginner. So, I decided not to go. If your tutorial center is anything like the one I went to and I were in your situation, I’d probably stick with the apps. Good luck!

@@ThatJapanLife Thank you! Really appreciate your thoughts about this topic! I was able to find PDF and self learning materials via the internet, but it's really not as interactive and as convenient as the apps you are using.. I'm also trying to gauge my motivation on doing self learning vs guided learning with having an instructor/teacher.. Maybe it really depends also with what kind of learner a person is.. Hi thanks much for sharing your experience. Is it correct that it took you zero proficiency level to N4 in 9 months (Feb 2017 to Dec 2017)? If a student had zero background in Japanese language, would it be possible to pass N4 with same length of study of 9 months? What apps among the 3 would you recommend to pass N4 as quickly as possible
@ThatJapanLife
@ThatJapanLife 4 ай бұрын
N4 is really more about the basics and most common. I would still recommend all three, but if you really want to choose and also would not like to pay for the subscription at this time, I think you can forego JapanesePod because the listening part for N4 is slowed down (not natural pace) and I think there are free practice listening materials even on youtube

Hi. Honestly, I’m all for just working until you get to the level you want to reach. However, some merits of taking the lower level tests are that it gives you an idea as to what the test really is like and sort of helps you gauge your actual proficiency. So if you’re planning to take the N2, I’d say maybe take the lower level test (maybe N3) at least once.

It’s actually good that you didn’t use anime because a lot of it doesn’t have actuate run of the mill Japanese. Which makes sense since when has a cartoon ever really had “normal” dialogue? Cartoons aren’t really meant to be real all the time, after all. Although I will say that there’re some that’re it is best to just avoid using anime for learning Japanese :3

Hi! You can use the very same resources mentioned in this video but just make sure that you use the N5 and N4 levels instead of the n2.

Oh wow!! I didn’t know they uploaded their materials on YT. I have never tried their N5 material but from what I can see on the channel, it seems to be the complete content! That’s great! No need to buy the course anymore! There’s o specific Kanji lesson but I was able to study it using the Vocabulary introduced. Also, personally, I liked to use Anki App for Kanji familiarization. Good luck!

rajesh gauchan yeah, I agree. What I did was I wouldn’t finish the lessons in one go. I’d go through 1 lesson for a week or a couple of days for example. It wouldn’t feel as heavy but since there are only 10-15 lessons, even if I spent a week on each, it would still give me a chance to repeat the lessons in the course of a few months

ThatJapanLife thanks for the reply. Thought Celebrity never replies .... Actually I don’t have much time. What would you suggest in this situation!!
@ThatJapanLife
@ThatJapanLife 4 жыл бұрын
rajesh gauchan far from being celebrity lol. But in that case, it would probably be a quick fix if you just focus on the grammar points introduced and not focus on each example given. Familiarize yourself with all the grammar rules and then supplement with Anki App for Vocabs and Kanji. Of course, I haven’t tried this method and can’t really speak about its effectiveness.
