I have major test anxiety and never do well on test. As a result, I put off pursuing my msw for 10 years. Now I have resurrected and decided to pursue my dream and learn to overcome my anxieties. Please send me well wishes.

I stumbled on your page and am excited to be preparing to take the LCSW exam (a second time). I failed by 2 points a few months ago. But I was not disappointed considering I graduated in 2003. Your page really helped my mind-set to jump back in there and I will be looking into some of the resources you and some of the respondents indicated to help me get over that hump! Congrats! I'm schedule to take the LMSW in October (I pushed my date back because I feel nervous. Today, I decided to purchase the TDC. I have been using the pocket prep (39.99 option) and Dawn Apgar (Masters Study Guide).

I took the ASWB Clinical Exam three times and failed it. I come within mere points of passing. The disappointment that I feel going into it again is beyond what I felt the first time. I don't do well on multiple choice. I'm about to embark again on 6/26/23, and am on the borderline of just canceling it. I've use the Dawn Apgar book and app to the point where it's not even helpful anymore. I've tried various online tutorials and I'm able to understand the content, but I feel like I'm memorizing the answers specific to the tool I've been using. I don't know where to turn, where to go. I know people who don't even study and pass it the first time. I've been doing this for 29 years. It's insulting that the pass rate is so low (just below 70 percent). I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

I found Dawn Apgar's book good for content only. In the video, he talked about the ASWB LCSW pocket prep. The questions are quite helpful and they follow the comprehensive guide (to the T) and tell you by page where you can find the content. Try purchasing the premium and focus on your weakest areas and follow his advice above. We seasoned social workers have to stick together on this! You got this and you will pass!

@@DonzellLampkins thanks for your comment. Well, I've cancelled and rescheduled so many times over the summer that I scheduled it again for some time in December. I'll cancel it again. I have nothing left in me. I've studied content and question structure. I'm not good at multiple choice and the longevity of the exam wears on my so if I start out strong then I fade out. I hear how there are waiting lists for therapists to see people and I can't even take advantage of that. I've decided to hang it up and simply keep my LCSW (without the independent LICSW) since it's impossible for me to get in this lifetime.

@@llauryn Thanks for the tip. I appreciate it. I purchased the pocket prep and it did nothing for me the third try. I will not devote another penny to another tutoring or program modality. You have to know the structure of the way each question is built and break it down to know what it's asking and how it's to be answered. I have zero patience to do that with 10 questions, let alone 170. In my state (Rhode Island) we get the LCSW and then go for the LICSW. I can't get the LICSW. I can get into a doctoral program, however. I'm good enough for that, but not good enough to practice privately. Go figure. I've invested close to 3,000 in test fees and prep programs. I AM DONE.

Anytime! Thanks for watching it. I believe it was called ASWB Clinical. It's from Pocketprep. I also recommend the NASW prep course. I took it for my master's exam and passed the first try. It may vary by state. I was in Illinois.

Sending your comfort and support during this time. I also commend your bravery to take an exam under these conditions (pandemic). The waiver is for those who were within 5 points of passing. Any more missed and you have to wait the three months. I'm rooting for you and have hope that you will pass the 2nd time around (like me :D).

Do you remembering what percentages you were averaging on pocket prep? I’m using the LCSW premium version and only getting like 60-70% 😔 but I also heard the test is easier than the questions on here. Testing soon and nervous! Thank you

I graduated April 2022 & have been on a temporary license since June. I work full time in private practice & i’m having incredible success with clients. My temporary license expires mid june. This means I have to pass the exam on my first try or else I get fired same day & lose all my clients & income. I am so scared. I just subscribed to the pocket prep app & I have the Dawn Apgar book. What else can I do for the next 4 months to ensure I pass? Pls help!!

Did you only use Pocket Prep? I bought the same version for $44.00. I’m also reviewing the ASWB online practice test for $85.00, as well as reviewing Apgar’s clinical practice exam . So, I have three questions: 1). How long did you study?; 2). Did you feel Pocket Prep was similar/close to the actual exam?; and 3). Did you take the exam during the week or on the weekend? I’m scheduled to take the exam soon and it will be during the week. I’m not feeling confident and it’s probably because I have so much going on, but I’m still finding time to study. Gee Pegram hey, the three resources mentioned in the video is what I used. I studied for one month. I do believe the questions are similar. I took my exam on a Thursday. With practice questions, study why it’s right and wrong. Learn the other options as well. I read more than anything and that helped most. You want to make sure that there’s minimal content gaps. I believe the practice exams are good predictors of how you will do. The first time I kept scoring in the 60’s and when I took my exam I got that score and failed by four points. When I studied intensely for a month, I was scoring in the high 70’s and 80’s. When I took the actual exam, I scored in that same range and passed. There’s no shame in pushing your exam date back. If you’re not feeling confident, I wouldn’t take it. I didn’t feel prepared the first time but I wanted to just get it over with and it didn’t work in my favor. I felt myself failing the first time. And the second time I felt myself passing. I also was confident the second time around. You will know when it’s time to take it. Kaitlyn Briann yes, your clinical hours are paid experiences in the state of Illinois. Not sure about other states.
