Last week we picked up the Vagabond Rogue; this week it's all about getting used to the Teardrop Caravan. After figuring out some of the best ways to use and pack the caravan, life could kind of just get going! We kick out our adventure with a beautiful hike in the Drakensberg Castle Gardens; a spectacular part of the world! We then tackle powering up our little offgrid home on wheels, I use my Jackery 500 Explorer and 2 solar panels to get the Caravan charged up so we can keep the fridge running and the lights on! Andy sucessfully completes his Rhino Peak hike and returns to camp for a well earned rest! Next week we will be heading out to Balloch Nature Reserve to put the Caravan on some dirt roads to see how it holds up! Join us then!

@@andrewbremner-ig-and_he_goes Your short video edited within Adrian's was awesome to see. Being over here in the USA, the wildlife in your part of the world is a little bit intimidating! Glad you made it back to basecamp safe! This was a really cool collaboration with Adrian. Hope to see you in more videos with him! John from Illinois, USA.

Hey Adrian! Love the episodes as always!!!! The caravan is amazing!! A quick question, how do you know when water is fresh to drink or use. Cooking it is fine but when can you confidently just drink the fresh water.
@RoamOverlanding
@RoamOverlanding 3 жыл бұрын
Hey bud! Glad you’re enjoying it! So the typical Thing is, if it’s ultra clear, and from the mountains/earth and there isn’t a dead animal Up stream or too much human impact. It was actually pretty silly just to drink it straight, but I know most streams in Lesotho and drakensberg are relatively safe, assuming there is no inhabited land above the point where you want to drink from. I still recommend using a lifestraw, purification tablets or boiling your water before drinking it. I wasn’t going to drink it, and then ended up doing it anyways and I was fine the next day, so that’s why I went back to the river to collect more 😝 also try be safe as possible, nothing worse than the runs and vomiting when you aren’t at home 😢

im looking at your solar setup , and i am a bit worrried about your cable from the panel beeng 10 meters, if it is 6 or 8 gage wire , i had to make my cable a lot shorter, aboat 6 meter. the ressistance in the wire gets bigger when it gets longer.. love your surrounding.. and, love from norway
@RoamOverlanding
@RoamOverlanding 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Runar! Thanks for the concern! they are using quite a heavy gauge for the 10 meter cable, not sure on the exact diameter; but its quite substantial but certainly not as substantial as the cables for my dual battery system. I do notice the voltage drop when the 10meter cable is pluged into the little adapter cable from jackery, the 150W panel gets out performed by the 100W panel because of the number of connections too. Very interesting stuff! Will do a deeper dive into it in a stand alone video about the Jackery too!

I’m interested in building a teardrop but the only thing I would like to know is if solar energy would be enough for a small flat screen and computer? or Even an Xbox and small fridge? Not quite sure how far an off grid set up can go. Any insight?
@RoamOverlanding
@RoamOverlanding 2 жыл бұрын
Solar energy can power a factory if you use enough solar; so it’s just a matter of getting the right amount of lithium storage and solar panels for your needs. 400W of solar could run a pretty decent amount of toys off grid
