I'm always trying to save time when it comes to making youtube videos. If I can shave off ten minutes here and two minutes there, it adds up in the long-run. I've recently saved alot more time with these two setups I use to shoot all my videos. Each piece of gear is helping me save time and be efficient.

Working setup is essential. For desktop setup I have V-Mount battery, but thinking to add connection directly from power from wall to dummy battery. That support for desktop looks nice, I don't have that yet - have been using normal tripod. Audio I still doing experiments should audio go from mic to Rodecaster/Atem Mini or directly to cam. It would be nice to find desktop setup that work for recording and also for live / webcam.

I do use this setup for livestreaming currently, but not through my Atem mini pro yet. I'm working on that one still. :D But I run my audio for livestreams and recording from the zoom h5 into my computer and record/stream it from there.

As one who has never created a video setup and only now has given it any thought, I love this video you shared. Thank you so much. I have a couple of questions, thanks for asking for them. For ref, I do have a small in-home studio for still photography with D7500 DSLR, stands, Godox speedlights and an AD200, 2-Aputure MC RGB lights, umbrellas, bkdrops, etc. No big continuous lights or softboxes. So, not one piece of equipment from your list. Of course, your point is to make the setup anew and be ready to go at all times. Q1: Even if I looked up and added up each item on your list I would be missing things, you always do, right?! So could you give a WAG ballpark to creating YOUR complete Desktop setup with camera and the lens you use most at the desk? You probably have an approximate number in your head. Q2: I could not find on your web site equipment lists the video editing software you like. I ask b/c of your comments about the SmallHD monitors' menus-you prefer the simpler style. Likely you have a similar approach to video editing. What software do you use for that? Maybe just Apple-something since you are a Mac user but I will be looking for a Windows app. You do amazing work with your videos and I appreciate your very logical style and "do-it-right-the-first-time-save-in-the-long-run" point of view. Thank you. PS-Loved your link to the 3M & Cable Ties product, ordered!
@FellowFilmmaker

For my desk setup I use my Canon 6dmkii with a Sigma 35mm and a mist filter from moment. That right there costs around $2,100 USD. For the video fluid head on the desk monopod with magic arms, monitor, audio recorder, microphone, v-mount battery, and all the cables to attach it costs roughly $3,200 ish. So, just the desk setup for shooting, not counting the desk or computer for editing and such, it's over 5K. For editing I primarily use FCPX for reasons you mentioned :D I do use Davinci for more serious work (client work, product videos, etc). Davinci is free so its a great one to go with especially if you're on a PC. And happy to hear how much you love the channel and how I do my videos! And glad you could use the links to get some cable ties! Super helpful.

SDI is Boring, but I do use SDI when recording or executing live stage events. it's only real contribution is the SDI is a low tech way of spanning crazy distances with multiple devices. basically its cable TV technology using copper cords. My main use scenario is when I have 1 or more cameras, a video switcher, 1-3 projectors AND you want them all to work in harmony when all the stuff is minimum 200 feet away from each other.... lets see you find an HDMI that spans that far! ;-)

I found the manfrotto 035 super clamp a bit more sturdy than the ifootage SA clamp in some applications. Especially if you experience any sag, that the clamp slightly shifts some degrees down under weight, just attaching the ifootage gear to the manfrotto 035 seems more stable to me. (Releasing that it is a bit embarrassing commenting on a KZfaq productivity video when I have barely produced anything for my channel in a long time, you definitely produce more and higher quality… ^_^ but my gear have seen some light use in video conferences, on-site for work other channel and what not… but eh, I got to get some inspiration and time for hobbies again!)

@@FellowFilmmaker would it be able to place the phone on the center of a gimbal? Sorry I forgot to mention that, I was planning on downloading an app that would allow the LiDAR on the phone be used to AF the bmpcc4k. However, the phone would need to be in the center to make sure that the correct subject is in focus without awkwardly holding the gimbal.

I imagine at that point you'd attach it to the camera if you could, or right below the camera. So once again, some friction clamps would do that job well enough

Have you made a video on filming with green screen, edit to replace the bkgd with an outer space theme, wrap it up, and send it to grandkids? 🤣Yes, pretty specific, right? I searched for green screen in your many videos and did not find it but if you have one at all I would appreciate a link or a link to one you consider appropriate. Would FCPX or Davinci handle all that or will I need another software pgm, something more automatic than Photoshop? Thanks,
@FellowFilmmaker
@FellowFilmmaker 2 жыл бұрын
I don't have one no. But davinci or FCPX would work just fine. :D I can't think of any in particular, there are plenty out there. Mainly you have to evenly light the green screen, have no wrinkles in it, have it at least 5 ft from the subject so there is no bounce color from the screen onto the subject. I think Parker Walbeck has a video that was fairly decent. Not 100% sure

I have a silly question for the talking-head setup. Since the setup is fairly static, have you considered plugging it directly to main power (via an AC-DC adapter) instead of running through a battery? I recall it's also possible to have a battery in the middle as a failsafe in case of power loss.
@FellowFilmmaker
@FellowFilmmaker 2 жыл бұрын
I have considered it, but I don't because of the many lights and other devices I have plugged in. I run out of outlets and I don't want to over draw anything. Also, it makes it pretty convenient to not have to trip over cables everywhere when it comes to cameras. :)

Does using a mist filter affect where you should set your sharpness in camera? I really like your image quality, and was pleasantly surprised to find out you’re also on a 6DMKII; but I have trouble not getting a “mushy” looking video on mine!
@FellowFilmmaker
@FellowFilmmaker Жыл бұрын
I believe it doesn't affect it too much if you don't go higher than 10% on the mist. I use 5% mist. I also upscale my videos in post production and add a touch of sharpening :D

@FellowFilmmaker
@FellowFilmmaker Жыл бұрын
You might want to see what you're doing for baked in looks, making sure the sharpness is not all the way down. But what might be the issue is your lens. What are you using? I'm using Sigma ART series or Canon L series lenses on mine
@YesManNomad
@YesManNomad Жыл бұрын
@@FellowFilmmaker The picture profile settings somewhat confuse me, due to the different scales not being uniform; specifically in how the Sharpness goes from 0, being the lowest value, to 7, its highest value, whereas Contrast goes from “-“ (-4) to “+” (4). So when I’ve read to reduce sharpening, I didn’t quite understand if that meant to put it all the way to the lowest value of 0, or somewhere halfway between 0 and 7! For lenses, I’m using an EF 16-35mm F/2.8L III USM, EF 24-70mm F/2.8L II USM, and an EF 50mm F/1.8L STM.
@FellowFilmmaker

Yeah it is tricky. Maybe I'll make a video about how I get sharp image from the camera, would that be helpful? Also, when you note that it's not very sharp, are you viewing the video in a particular place for that? I.e. KZfaq, straight from camera, etc.
