After Norfolk southern took advantage of me for years as a conductor, I had to get back and waste their time just like they wasted mine.. this is something I will never forget.. maybe not one of my proudest moments but I wish I could have been a fly on the wall of that trainmasters office when I told him what I said..

These railroads are terrible places to work. They all treat their employees like crap. They need us a lot more than we need them. Once I finally “pull the pin” I am going to be making a video of my experience working on the railroad.

I actually felt like I left on good terms compared to lots of others. I never marked off and I never got in trouble. I went to the tower in person with all my stuff and politely told the trainmaster that it was apparent I wasn't going to be able to transfer to the terminal close to home and that I wasn't going to be able to continue forward because I was only able to see my family once or twice a month because they were too far away from the terminal for me to go there to take my rest. I also couldn't find an affordable place to live nearby either. He actually tried to get me to change my mind, but I knew they would just string me along and never transfer me. I just said my mind was made up and saw myself out. If they ever hire out of the terminal where I live, I'd consider trying to go back, but it would be a tough choice.

I’ve been with the railroad for almost 2 years now. Never mark off, never get in Trouble. But now that my terminal hired enough people, they’re just looking for small things to write people up for. I am a foamer, I’ll admit it. And I enjoy my job. But idk if I can do this micro managing stuff for the next 38 years until I can retire. I just want some guidance if someone wants to chime in. Thanks!

My best advice. Get off the railroad while you are still young. It is not worth the way they will treat you.

Yea I'm in the process of going back to my previous job which pays $10/hr less. I can't handle the environment of being a conductor. Not to mention the hours working and being away from home. I just don't have the drive to continue this job. I'm single and not married.

Sounds like you live with no regerts. In almost all my 30 years (coming up soon) I can recall them shutting down for Cristmas except maybe one time. A lot of the "rail fan" types don't usually make it to mark up I've noticed anyway. You have to walk before you can run, meaning all good things come. I didn't have a regular schedule that has weekends off until 2 decades in. Glad you found something you like though, being a railroader isn't for everyone.

Don’t know who to reach out to so goes to both of you. I got b**** at basically from BNSF person make me feel dumb. I guess my drug test came back positive for whatever I don’t know what etc… I’ve tried to call the medical people but nobody answers and nobody hasn’t called me back all I got is a email saying rescinded their offer. It’s like give me a chance to send you my doctors prescriptions they prescribed me then go from there
@Railroad_Talk
@Railroad_Talk Жыл бұрын
That’s odd Justin the people doing the drug test typically have a way to see what type of prescriptions you’re prescribed. I would just shoot them an email with whatever medication your doctor prescribed you and let them handle it. Wouldn’t hurt to tag your doctor in the email as well if you have it.

@@Railroad_Talk I don’t do any street drugs, only take what the doctor prescribed me, hospitals and that’s it. I did emailed them, haven’t received a response back, no phone calls back. I guess these people work in Florida. If BNSF treats people like this they when I talked to someone on the phone I should’ve went with Northfork southern js lol. I’m going to call them tomorrow morning.

Who exactly would I need to reach out to to tell them I quit and what process would I have to go through to make it official? I'm planning on bailing out on my NS CT position in Harrisburg cuz it's just too much for me to handle. Now would I have to reach out to one of my train/yardmasters, my training coordinator, call crewcall mamagement (desk 41), or who specifically? and is there anything else I'd need to do after that (Like return my radio and lantern and stuff)? I'd like to "try" to leave quietly without anyone causing me any bulls**t in the process if that's at all possible, but if it ain't that's fine I'd just need to opt out that's all.
@Railroad_Talk
@Railroad_Talk Жыл бұрын
Just text or call your trainmaster and let them know you quit. They may ask why and I would just be honest with them. As far as returning your radio, you can meet them whenever and give it back if you choose to
@DieselDucy

I’d honestly just quit answering the phone. Don’t formally quit just don’t answer the phone and walk away. Also, as far as returning stuff. If they want it, they can come and get it. You should not have to burn any of your gas to give them back their crap.
