Appreciate the refresher. It's been a long time since I've done any body work. I'm hoping to paint my S10 this summer. I've always wanted to do a spray can pant job. You've inspired me to do that.

As someone who does painting & collision repair for a living the only two suggestions I have are to use a wax & decreased between each grit of sandpaper to clean the surface and to tape off the lights & door handles if you're new to using a dander, it will prevent some unwanted damage. Looking forward to seeing you bedline the truck!

Yes great advice thank you for the input! Definitely don’t wanna push the dirty stuff into the paint for sure. Thanks and appreciate the input. Did more body work tonight and got more dents taken care of too.

I am odd man out, but I want fox mustang to basically look like your prep job, no paint, just primer, then wash, and clear coat. Then 347 stroker/custom block, full suspension, decent interior. Folks think oh look POS Ford that poor bastard, then light turns green. That said I have watched your video twice as body work is new to me but yeah, I learned quite a bit here, thanks. I subscribed for future lessons.

Years ago my cousin bought a car that the previous owner freshly painted, but didn't prep it right so most of the new paint peeled off it. Preparation is SO important!

Yup! I have seen spray gun jobs flake off worse than my spray can jobs because lack of prep. If you prep it right the paint sticks well, spray can or spray gun.

Wow Talk about timing, I’m almost done fixing my daily and the first thing on my check list was a spray can paint job. I saw your video on gray paint job you did 11 months ago and I came to check back to see if you made a prep video.

I’ve been really inspired since I found your channel. I bought an ‘03 Acura RSX Type S and I’m not crazy about the color. It’s also fading in some spots. I’ve only seen a few of your videos so far , but would you recommend anyone try their hand at this? The RSX isn’t my daily so I was thinking I could really take my time prepping it for paint

I remember in one of your videos the dos and donts of rustoleum paint. Like how long between coats...if you wait too long it will cause wrinkling and peeling. Is there any way that you could do a comprehensive dos and donts...getting ready to try to paint my 74 olds cutlass and everytime i start i cant find the dont do this and that...amazing channel amazing work thank you for your time...GOD BLESS!

I've just come to your channel and I'm enjoying it so far, I'm a but disappointed you haven't repaired the dent on the front wing. I know it's a work truck but for a matter of a couple of hours it would look much better.

Thanks and yeah I get that comment on a lot of things. Some of these dents on curved surfaces im not good at fixing because it’s on body lines. I am not a pro at body work I actually hate doing body work because by” fixing” it I sometimes make it look worse. I usually just replace the entire panel as I did with the driver door, front right fender, the entire truck bed and this one was in far better condition. I am probably going to fix the little damaged spots that are left like the fender and other areas but if I don’t get it perfectly straight it will be okay because it will probably get dented right back up. We will see what happens. Thanks and God bless

I’m currently working on a 91 Firebird that has paint issues exactly like you have with that truck. I used 180 grit to sand it down and going to use I believe 320 after. So, you don’t use primer first before the spray paint?
@JamesDguy
@JamesDguy 3 ай бұрын
Depends the paint but rustoleum has great adhesion if using the advance formula or high performance enamel. I if the vehicle has multi colored panels I prefer priming the entire vehicle to be the same color before laying on my paint. This one is going to be primed the entire thing since it has multicolored panels and I want good adhesion. But no, I don’t always use primer and I don’t have issues when I don’t. It’s different from spray gun paint where a primer is necessary. I have had other brands like Krylon and duplicator flake off without a primer, but oleum doesn’t have that issue and I’m not quite sure why but it does save me money sometimes lol

@@JamesDguy Thanks for the reply. This will be the second car I’m using Rust-Oleum on. First one was on a 84 Corvette. It’s flaking in parts and at times I get blisters. Not sure why. Anyways, I’m going to be using the rustoleum that has the 5 settings on it. So, you think since this is a one color car, I’d be fine just ditching the primer and just go with the paint?

Painted my car with rustoleum thunder cloud grey 2 weeks ago. Plan on scuffing it down with 800 then clear over it with 2k. Will there be any reaction? I read that rustoleum takes a long time to cure and some got reaction to spraying over rustoleum after a couple of days.
@JamesDguy
@JamesDguy 3 ай бұрын
I like to wait a month for it to really gas off or whatever they call it. I have a video of my 2K clear going over my spray can ep3 paint job no reactions on mine. If it’s the 2X paint it might react and idk why the 2X rustoleum sometimes reacts but sometimes it won’t. The advance formula and the high performance enamel do great with a 1000 grit wet sand and clear
