A wealthy man told me that there''s usually not one thing that saves a ton of money, but several small things that you hope each might save 2%. You said that you save 30 cents to a dollar a gallon using a fuel card. Then you said to ask in the comments where you get your card. Where did you get yours?

NASTC. Stands for National Association of Small Truck Companies. Anytime anybody calls me offering a fuel card, the second I tell them I have a NASTC card, they give up. They know they can't compete. The only catch is that you have to attend a one time class in Nashville, TN. It's only one day and they have one every month. They try to sell you other stuff there. I just wanted the fuel card. Most people don't want to get it bc of the class. I got it immediately bc the guy who got me into this who had been independent for 4 years demanded I get it. He paid out of pocket for about a year before he got it and said it was life changing. It saves me about $6000 to $8000 a year. I drive between 1000 and 1500 miles a week, so if I drove 2500 to 3000 miles a week, it would be closer to 15 grand a year in savings.

Well we’re part of a group of owner operators that are tax exempt. So we don’t even pay fuel taxes! You should consider joining as long as you meet the criteria!

What’s a turnpike?

It's a toll road. You have to pay out of pocket to drive on them. I'm in probably the worst state for turnpikes. They're everywhere. I hate that they have eminent domain, meaning if they decide to build straight through your land, you can't do anything about it. They also decide what they pay you for your land which is usually below market value. There's parts of my state where they've talked about building and people protest the building and put huge signs in front of their houses saying "No Turnpike" They're extremely corrupt. They charge by how many axles your vehicle has. Mine has 5, so I pay way more than cars. It can be $250 to $300 a month sometimes and that's only using it maybe 6 or 7 times.

NASTC. (National Association of Small Truck Companies) They're based out of Nashville. Good at all Petros and TA's and tons of other places like Hutch's, Casey's, Allsup's, Kwik Star, Quick Trip, Yesway, and Road Ranger. Good for a lot of mom and pop places too.
