*Reading Section Tips:* 1. Don't skim (on the reading section) For the reading section read quickly but also make sure not to just skim. The ACT has more detail focused questions than the SAT, which means more going back to the passage to find details that may be hard to find if you only skimmed the passage. *Writing Section Tips:* 1. Review all Grammar Rules What sounds right may be completely wrong. Written language has a lot more rules than spoken language. 2. Watch out for modifiers Ex. Correct Sentence: We ~slowly~ ate the lunch we brought. (slowly modifies ate) Wrong Sentence: We ate the lunch we brought ~slowly~. (In this case, slowly modifies brought. This means that the lunch was BROUGHT slowly, not eaten slowly) *Science section Tips:* 1. Skim the passage to get an idea of what the experiment is all about. Most of the time the science section is dependent on the graphs and drawings that come with the problem. If you understand what these graphs are for and what they represent, you should be all good. Skimming the paragraph(s) that come with the graphs will tell you how to read them, and they will help you get a better sense of how to answer the questions asked of you. 2. For the paired science reading, read each passage separately (Catherine explains why in the video 5:30) *General Tips:* 1. If you don't know a question, star it and move on As you know, the ACT is extremely fast paced and time is an issue. Being stuck on a hard question for a long time may cause you to run out of time and not answer easier questions. Also, make sure to come back to any questions you skipped or guess if you ran out of time 2. Answer every question There's no guessing penalty (you probably know this) 3. Wear short sleeves with a jacket to the testing center You don't know what the temperature inside your testing center will be. In mine, for instance, the AC was broken and everyone was sweating throughout the test. I know some friends who took their test in rooms that were blasting AC. 4. Make sure to take a couple of practice tests before your test. Taking practice tests helps you understand how the ACT works and what question types you may encounter. I highly recommend taking timed practice tests to figure out how fast you should move through each question and which questions you struggle on the most. Personally this approach to the ACT really worked for me. My score on the ACT was a 35, almost perfect. (I feel like I got lucky though . . . my practice test scores were usually around 30 (sometimes lower).) **disclaimer: What works for me may not work for everyone. Take my tips with a grain of salt.

Yeah I’m going to be a junior, I’ve had 4 AP classes and have a 4.14 GPA, when I walked in the first time I didn’t study thinking I’d get a 30 easily, and I managed to only get a 24, then yesterday I studied my butt off and took it today (I work better by cramming) and feel good about it. Also one tip in this, if you sit in the back of the class, during the 20 minute test at the end which does not affect your score whatsoever, you can go back and answer questions you did not previously answer in other sections, a little risky but..... Just a tip, take it or leave it.

Just a psa... I recommend buying the "5 lb book of ACT problems" Its literally a 5 lb book of ACT problems (over 1000 problems I think). I was able to bring my score from a 26 to a 31 solely by using this book for a month. Furthermore, because of this book I raised my English score from a 31 to a perfect 36. Reading score from a 28 to a 32, science from a 24 to a 30, and I forget my math score lol. So yeah. That's my suggestion :) good video btw!

It isn't that hard to get a 30 just like study English rules. Math is common sense (to me). Reading just go fast because you will run out of timee. Science only hard if you are tired

The test itself isn't hard, it's the timing that makes it a bitch. I agree though, just try to get through the reading as fast as possible. Luckily my English teacher did a good job of training us how to skim through passages to fish for the answers. So I completely aced the reading. The science I did well with but I'm not sure how long I took with time so I took my science accuracy with a grain of salt.

Hi this might sound so unusual. I played your video in my HS Advanced Study Skills class. 1.30 into it and my 9th grader panicked over the amount of questions and the time frames English 75 in 45 / Reading 45 in 30 minutes. My students felt overwhelmed and got side tracked into n embarrassing " what if... " doubt conversations. ( Quote: " What if she is a layer ? " / " What if she is click baiting ?" etc. ) I sincerely apologize, as a teacher. We discussed credibility and respect for a speaker, focus on the content and proper note taking... We had an extremely dedicated argument and my students had the nerve to tell my: Well, how do you know ? How can you be that sure ? Therefore I would like to ask you ( and that is the only reason I assure you ) to send some proof , so my naysayers have to develop a growth-mindset . Best regards F. Schneider ELA Teacher, Tempe Arizona .

I’m a 3.4-3.5 student which isn’t good because I didn’t really try my first two years but currently my junior year is 3.8 which also isn’t great. Stupid question but do you think I’m smart enough to get past 20😕, I saw someone commenting they have a 4.0 and they only have a 20 fml.

GPA and test scores don't always match up. For example, my cumulative GPA is 3.65 because i messed up my freshman and sophomore year, even though for junior year I'm around a 3.85. I got a 29 on my first try without the accommodations I needed, and a 33 my second try when I had accommodations. On the other hand, Two of my best friends get 4.0+ every semester, and they couldn't get past a 26 at first.

Let me tell u what happened to me I am Nadeem Ahmed from egypt Me any my friends were ready for the Sat trail that was directly before the Covid shit Anyway we got ready and just a few hours before the exam the college board said we are going to cancel the exam so we waited till the previous trail and suddenly the college board canceled the whole sat from Egypt because the exam sometimes is leaked btw it is leaked everywhere not only in Egypt it depends on the college board’s security not ours I said to myself it’s god’s will and I started studying act and I only have two weeks left for the exam and I f*cking get 16/40 in reading (when I do mocks for myself I always get frustrated and get bad marks) and I am very good at math and English but always get bad marks when it comes to mock and the time makes me so frustrated but I will not give up because the whole family worked hard for just this day I will never give up if it is not this trail it will the next I will never give up .yes I relaxed inThe middle maybe because I got a bit depressed . What I am trying to say here is that never give up guys our generation is one of the luckiest generations we got everything and we know everything so let’s go through this hard time together a few months of pain a lifetime of enjoyment we got 16 more day like today I need to do it HMU we might do a group to help each other and motivate each other for the exam Instagram = vnadeemv
