In this video I take you behind the scenes on a wedding photography portrait shoot with a bride and groom and show you how, using off camera flash and MagMod modifiers, you can create a fake sunset. So even if you don't have great natural sunset light on a wedding day, you can create it yourself.
To make the fake sunset I used Godox speedlights, a MagSphere, MagGels and a MagMod grid. All the photographs in this video were taken on my Sony A9 camera with the Sigma 105mm 1.4 art lens - a huge thank you to my friend Ken from www.karlandkenny.com/ for kindly lending me the lens to use.

Another great video Neil. Well done. You brighten up the boring November light weddings... Thank you so much. After watching your videos I invested on Sony A9 ( but still have my Nikon D850, my second shooter uses it ), 85 mm 1.8 and 24 mm 1.4 Sony and Tamron 28-75mm 2.8.... I reckon you would get similar result with the 85mm 1.8 Sony lens too. Once again, thank you. oohhh by the way do you own the hotel? or just around the corner from you? :)

Thank you very much Sibel! I hope you are enjoying your A9! Yes, the 85mm 1.8 would give similar results. Unfortunately on this day I didn't have enough time to compare but I would imagine it would be similar

Nice work, however why are you working with the lens hood reversed on the lens ? It is useless in that position, especially with that lens which is prone to flare in backlight situations. I don't understand that. FYI, I am a pro shooter for over four decades. Cheers
@NeilRedfern
@NeilRedfern 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Gerald! There are two reasons I don't use lens hoods, firstly I like flare and actively try and get as much natural flare as I can in most situations. Also, as in this example, when I am shooting through things (such as the leaves here) I want the lens to be as close as possible to that thing to maximise the bokeh effect
