I don't know if you remember, but way back (about 20 years ago) you taught me how to play the spoons in a diner in North Carolina, I think you were a teenager, I was about 9. I actually still play sometimes for fun. I am so happy for you and your growth. I hope the world brings you as much joy as you brought me at a hole in the wall diner while waiting for my breakfast. I cherish that memory.

Hey Abby, I know this is years later, but I’ve raised my kids in Asheville, and your performances are genuinely central to our lives here. There’s something so honest and real about you and your music, and our family, walking downtown in Asheville, encountering you, would not be the same without the experience. I told my girls, who have often danced and delighted in front of you, you are looking at quite possibly the most accomplished musician you will ever see. We love you, and we hope to see you again soon.

I gave up on having heros years ago when I matured enough to realize they were almost rotten with fakery through and through and were nothing but a hollow handpuppet personality that had zero to do with who or what they really were but here, in you, I do see a hero I can look up to and be awed by and strive to be more like. Here in later years of my life I am able to see the true diamonds that have gone through extreme pressures and at times buried deep in murky areas only to come out into the light as a shimmering beacon as strong and true on the inside as the out side and I thank you so much for that! I have felt such despair as to have quit having simple dreams and simpler daydreams but you have brought some of that back for me. Bless you sister!

best Hero to believe in & hold dear is "You". Be Your Own Hero. I know it is a very lonely spot....in 2015 I was slammed very hard by the evil that surrounds Me...they who prey on children & women to constantly be mouthing body parts. Seems one must go outside from where they live in order to find the ppl that existed in the 60's n 70's...you know that mentality where we knew we were on our own & ppl respected & helped each other. What is happening now is such a shame...I quit dating several yrs ago...after a long time I gave it another try..it was brief....seemed all the guys are looking for is a servant...no real life partner. I was moved by your words...relate well & was deeply moved. Bless You, Brother....may you have what you seek & be blessed by all you meet...are able to have what you need & where ever you go always plant &/or leave some of your own seeds.

My son was also a train hopper. He too went from coast to coast and north to south. He LOVED it with all his pasion. He'd get a sparkle in his eye's just talking about it. A week before he died, he talked about how much he enjoyed it. Hearing you tell your story makes me wonder what he did to earn money along his journeys.

My grandma taught me how to play the spoons when I was a kid. I loved it - such a simple instrument, but so captivating too, when it's played well like you do. You have a beautiful soul, don't ever give up!

Thank you for your effort for keeping street performances legal. I am on the other aide of the state, but we hope to travel back to the mountains again next year and spend some time in Asheville. Growing up near Woodstock, NY really helped me appreciate street performances - I even participated in some drum circles there before they paved "The Green". I'd love to see what Asheville has to offer.

Very cool! I wholeheartedly support you in this endeavor! I remember watching street performers in Venice beach while growing up in California! Still living here 50 years later. Street performers inspired me as a child to be creative and express myself through performance anyway I chose! I used to create shows for my neighbors with my wagon full of items. As an adult I traveled through Europe staying in hostels and earning money in the streets as we traveled. It was a great way to meet locals and make friendships. Bless you for your passion and activism for protecting this beautiful expression for our communities!💖

As a young kid, every Sunday, my family and my two uncles would get together while we waited for dinner. My cousin played piano and my dad and my uncles played the spoons. I wish I had paid more attention. They were exceptionally good but nowhere near as good as you. Thank you for bringing this beautiful memory back to me. Keep on playing those spoons you beautiful lady. Love from Canada.🇨🇦🙏❤️

No secret behind that. You have a lot of different experiences. You meet a lot of ppl that are different. You learn to become humble, and tolerant, and empathetic, and loving of ppl. Sure you're gonna have those ppl that piss you off to no end. I've had a man call me a white motherfucker, a guy ask me where the "black" manager and "black" asst. mgr were. I've been cussed at. I've been fussed at for telling a person thank you (yes, thank you. No, I wish I WAS kidding). But I've had beautiful experiences....I've learned about other people's lives and met some of the most beautiful ppl, inside and out. I gave one lady the shoes off my feet because she came in to my job, and she was limping - she was a nurse and her feet hurt so bad. I had on a pair of comfortable shoes I had just bought. But I had a pair out in my car that I'd just bought from a thrift shop that I was dying to wear. I gave that lady my shoes. Off my feet. I'm not saying all this to be ..what is it ppl call it..."virtue signaling"? I've done a lot of dumb shit in my life too. But...the more jobs you have sometimes ....the more you learn and grow as a person.

I'd enjoyed your music for a couple of years when I ran up on your discussion videos last night. Your heart is big, your mind is sharp, and I hope you can continue to enrich our lives across the country. One of my former students has a degree in classical guitar, now has 4 music jobs and a part-time academic gig, and is happy to be able to play. I'm going to recommend he watch your videos to reinforce his happiness from music in his chosen life.

I think you are out of this world. I have known about spoon playing since the 1970's, I don't ever see it around much. You made me raid the utensil drawer for a pair, I taped the handles together after fumbling for a while and I am super proud about how they sound and work, (they got a perfect curve in them). Now I need to learn rythmn, you have it in spades. Thank you for the inspiration!
